I think I remember Shout going after Gargoyles, but couldn't find any film elements so it was scrapped. I hope the situation can change with any company and elements are found, as it is one of the most remembered and beloved horror tv-movies of the 70's. The DVD versions looked bad, even for DVD, but better than nothing, I guess.

I know Sony just doesn't let other studios do new scans of their titles, but 1994's Wolf DESPERATELY needs a new scan. I already have the Powerhouse Films release with the 50 minute long documentary. So, I wouldn't be hurting for special features, but it has a "dawn of DVD" quality scan. I don't see Sony producing some major remastered release of it, but Scream Factory would give it a little care and attention. I know it was an overly expensive production that made no profit, but it wouldn't be the first movie of that kind to get a spruced up release.

That sucks because they definitely should, Most of the films from their catalog that they show on the sony movie channel are in crap 480i 4:3 quality. I haven't heard of any other studio showing a lack of respect or care for their catalog like that.

Most releases sell the best when they are brand new and the sales generally decline from then. There is often only a small trickle of sales of a title toward the end of a run. There are exceptions though. A film featured somewhere prominently can boost sales substantially. A film that I directed was on the Last Drive Inn with Joe Bob Briggs and it jumped to #2 on the bestselling horror titles on Amazon for a day or so. It sold out though. I expected some extra sales since people streamed the show and already saw the movie. Nothing as big as what happened. In some cases, streaming can cause a big jump in physical media sales.Joe Bob gets some of the credit though.

Obviously there can't be two ocns since a large chunk of the footage is the same between both versions. I have to wonder, does the ocn for the producer's cut footage that didn't end up making it into the theatrical cut even exist to be found anymore? And if it is, would a 4K release sell enough units to justify reconstructing the producer's cut negative digitally?

A lot of questions that probably won't be answered until someone actually puts in the time to do a proper 4K release. All the more reason for Scream & Paramount to work together on such a release
An IP scan can still work for UHD.

I know, and it would probably look pretty good too.

I'm just wondering if that's the route they'll go if and when the producer's cut gets a 4K release. As much as I would like it to happen I can't see anyone, even Scream Factory, going to the trouble of digitally reconstructing the negative for the producer's cut (assuming such a thing is even possible).

This is VS we're talking about. They say they are releasing a slasher film but it ends up being a melodrama with some slight slasher trappings.

Still love their work, but they don't usually go for popular titles

At his point I gotta admit there aren't very many titles that would wow me anymore. The glory days are mostly over as far as catalog titles go. Maybe 4K The Fog or Night of the Comet. I have the UK Fog 4K but I like it so much what the heck. I thought I wanted Deadly Friend but I think only now because of the wait.

We'll see maybe a surprise title I forgot about.

Appreciate the head's up but yep we've got it covered. Severin has already released their own edition of Beyond Darkness for those that want it. I do my best to try to stay on top of titles going out of print on post #1 and so I'm always appreciative when folks post any information they've found about titles going out of print, but in this case someone posted about it a few weeks back and I've got it marked as such on page 1.

Is any kind of summer of fear sale still happening, virtual comic con has come and gone and its now less than 8 weeks from their usual October sale so I'm skeptical there will be a summer sale.

Don't know about a sale but I'm skeptical we'll get much beyond Alone In the Dark and the Halloween sequels that have already been announced for the remainder of the year. Shout is having too many 'light months' lately. Shout's sales aren't anything to get excited about anyway.

It was mentioned a few pages back that they announced they were skipping the 'Summer of Fear' sale this year.

I still have over 400 Dvd's I need to upgrade. Not mention the films (old and new) that I haven't discovered yet....
