I like the Italian artwork, but the American artwork is classical. I remember my vhs when I was VERY young with the US art. Its kinda nostalgic, you know. I think we can have a fresh look at the art with the newly commissioned version, and still have the classic art, as they have done so far.

The Italian art is superior, but I like that VHS feeling I get seeing the classic posters and then the new ones too.

I actually still have that VHS. I like how the words are thicker in it than the poster. It looks better.
I would actually prefer this VHS one, although is is a tiny bit different.

I think thats what makes it unattractive, when the letters are small and skinny with the background being a large scope of space. The bigger font looks fantastic, and really works wonders.
But I do kinda-sorta like the original art...

I don't think the original poster art is that bad, either. I actually think it looks pretty cool - even better today than when it first came out.

And I'll be the sole voice so far in saying that that Italian art looks super cheesy and way too cartoonish for my tastes. It's horrible. Thankfully, I'm sure Shout will stay consistent and utilize the American marketing as usual.

I agree with you 100%. The US poster is what it is and I actually like the simplicity of it. The Italian poster looks like one with the whole corny animation.

Obviously, in the case of "From Beyond" and "The Fog", alternate (and more favorable) styles were chosen but they were still US 1-sheets. I think a great trade-off would be to have the newly commissioned artwork tap into the spirit of that Italian poster and do something truly unique. Even though the US 1-Sheet poster isn't the greatest of its day, it still is the image that fans associate with "Night of the Comet" in this region for better or worse.
Or they can just save the money and poll the customers who are going to be spending the money on this as to what they want to spend their money on. While I preferred the FROM BEYOND artwork (the original, not the cruddy custom) over the bland VHS cover art, at least they put out the poll and let the fans have a say.

I pick the italian poster simply because it's actual artwork, as well as looks very nice and appropriate for the movie... which is probably why Shout! won't use it. Get ready for some more floating/clustered heads!

I have to go with the US look..the italian one doesn't make any sense...it doesn't look like either one of the girls if you look at the hair. The US versions all fit the movie and the 80's so it's a winner in my book.

To be honest if the italian one was submitted as the artwork I would say it was really bad. Oh well, let's hope whom ever does the artwork for this actually saw the film because The Fog "crew" looks nothing like they are supposed to.

This is exactly my feeling too. When I rented it at the age of...6 (?) that was the art that drew my attention -- for better or worse.

I grew up with the US poster....I'm used to it, so I'm fine with it. I do like the Italian one, but nostalgia always wins for me...

Interesting list, though I'm surprised Tobe Hooper never gets a director's featurette.

I am pleased with the lineup for Lifeforce, I like that Tim Sullivan is on the commentary - he does a good job as a moderator!

I know some people have been wondering if Criterion does in fact have it, but I think its a safe bet they did get 'Scanners' from MGM.

The facebook page commented on a post asking about it, and they said "Rumor is that Criterion has it..."

But Cliff mention a while back that he knew who had it, they would never comment on a post leading someone to a false company. So I'm 100% positive they have it, and you should be too.

A fantastic film. so long as Criterion does the cover justice, hopefully with the original poster, I don't see how this could ever be a disappointment.

When Criterion did their New Year's drawing, one of the clues resembled Michael Ironside from Scanners, so it's been a given that they were the ones working on it (although, they've given clues for Y Tu Mama Tambien for years now, and it STILL hasn't gotten released, so who knows when they'll release it).

I would have normally hesitated when it came to them using the original poster, but it's not unprecedented for them (Rosemary's Baby's cover was based on the original art), so we shall see...

I can not wait for SCANNERS but a few people out there claim that CRITERION is going to release an early CRONENBERG box set complete with RABID, SHIVERS, THE BROOD and SCANNERS possibly around October. I find it a little hard to believe but stranger things have happened. Once SCANNERS is announced officially, I'll have no problem buying SCREAMS SCANNERS 2 & 3 (hopefully bluray).

I usually wait for the B&N sale for most Criterion, but a Cronenberg box set would be an instant preorder for me.

That box set, if it happens, is a Day 1 Purchase for me. Sounds incredible.
