Scream Factory Blu-ray Discussion Thread

It's only Wednesday. Shout can easily announce stuff yet this week. That said, they typically like to announce titles during the first or second week of the month and so I wouldn't be surprised if we had to wait until the 7th. The leaks came really, REALLY early this month. Usually that sort of stuff doesn't pop up until the beginning of the month.

He has changed the title and is planning a screening. He posted this on FB last week:

Love the look of Galactic Civil War unique quality and I have so much more planned goodies planned for audiences...I tentatively plan on screening on April.

Night Creatures and the 2 Happy Death Day films are now also showing up as April releases on b2b.dealsareus.ca. The Candyman UHD isn't there, so that's either a mistake or it's been delayed. Surely an official announcement can't be far away now.

They just announced a Shout Select set a couple days ago, I doubt they'd do another already.

Nope. I think this is all we're getting for April, save perhaps some previously announced titles they haven't officially dated yet.

Wasn't that just a random limited edition that was in stock immediately? They usually have 1-2 Shout Select titles with new announcements for the month.

It's a site exclusive, but it still counts as a recently announced Shout Select title, and was just announced on Select's Facebook, the same as if it were an upcoming pre-order title, so I think from their perspective, they wouldn't announce another so quickly again. I'm sure we'll see a Select title show up for April eventually though. We know Cool World is a Select title, so it may very well be that (If Shout hasn't canceled that release).

Well, hoping for something. I wonder what's up with Cool World and Jennifer 8. We have cover art for both, but radio silence. I was almost positive Jennifer 8 would be an April title.

The arrival of an unidentified cone-shaped object in a small Illinois town coincides with strange behavior from locals in the community. When scientists and UFO investigators discover that the affected townspeople are being controlled by parasitic organisms that attach themselves to the necks of their victims, they are thrown into a race against time to contain an otherworldly threat that keeps them from trusting anyone.

The 1958 sci-fi B movie classic, The Brain Eaters, directed by Bruno VeSota and co-produced by an uncredited Roger Corman, shares undeniably common narrative ground with Robert A. Heinlein's 1951 novel, The Puppet Masters, so much so that the author sued the filmmakers for plagiarism. This screen story is an endearingly low budget affair, with the titular menaces created using fur-covered wind-up toys with pipe cleaners for antennae, but the allegorical aspects of its subject matter still ring true, whether one is thinking of the Red Scare or present-day conspiracy theorists.

The Brain Eaters features an early shootout that must have seemed quite violent to viewers during the era of its release. Another highlight is a knockout street brawl between the heroic protagonists and a couple of monster-controlled people. A knockout of a different sort appears courtesy of Joanna Lee, whose character participates in the mayhem in lingerie and clear heels after being taken over by a parasite that crept into her bedroom at night.

Be on the lookout for none other than Leonard Nimoy, who shows up in an early role as an ambassador for the brain eaters.

At 61 minutes, this creature feature is full of fast-paced fun, even if it does not win any awards for originality or effects.

Unfortunately, the brain eaters would die of starvation if they were to show up in today's world.


This barebones Scream Factory release looks quite good in its grainy glory.

"A Return to Salem's Lot" is not very good, but also incredibly gonzo and insane. Michael Moriarty and Samuel Fuller are a bizarre, yet hugely entertaining onscreen combination. A buddy cop comedy with those two would have been incredible. There is one of the most unintentionally funny moments in film history here when Moriarty's adolescent son yells at Moriarty and Fuller, "Just shut the f**k up!" More films should feature adolescents yelling at eccentric character actors to "shut the f**k up" in incredibly high-pitched voices.

Having a problem with Shout Factory payment. Have purchased from them before online with no problem. Since ordering The Vampire Lovers, I get to the payment section and always get a "FRAUD" notice after it already goes through, it comes right back stating fraud. Just tried to purchase The Brain Eaters and The Lost Continent, and again, after the payment goes through, it suddenly comes back stating "FRAUD". I have never changed any info, so I see no reason for this. Called Shout Factory and they were no help, just told me to order in a different way. Anyone else ever go through this. This never happens on any other site, only Shout Factory.

I had this issue using Paypal even though I had used Paypal with them the previous week without issue. I ended up using my credit card instead.

Anyone having trouble with Amazon pay? When you go to checkout.. it says error ... how can I fix it..
