I upgrade all of my movies to 4K, and while yes, I am getting slightly burnt out, I'm content knowing I will never have to upgrade again. I'm highly doubting there will be 8K discs, and I really don't think there will be that many movies that it would benefit.

In the case of The Dead Zone, Event Horizon and Escape From L.A., I could believe the scans were already done or on the docket (that said, SF did mention they were hoping to do a new scan of the latter when first announced, so maybe not). But in the case of say My Bloody Valentine, Pet Sematary 2, and now Ghost and the Darkness, I do think these were probably done at Scream's behest, with them footing the bill. Of course it's frustrating that we see new scans in some cases and not others, and who knows why that is, but at least Paramount seem more flexible than Fox or Sony.

Looking at what's left, I hope Fire in the Sky gets a new scan if Scream release it.

Yeah, a new scan for Fire in the Sky would be nice as Imprint tends to not have the best compression on top of it being an old scan.

I'm really hoping that A Simple Plan gets a new scan. Honestly, I'd buy it in two seconds flat even if it doesn't have one, but still hoping it does.

I respect this idea as it was my thought regarding Blu Ray 15 years ago. I worried then that Blu Ray would be the last format and everything would shift to digital distribution after. However the one big thing holding me back from full 4k acceptance (besides the prices which are often still too high for my liking) is the long term viability of being able to actually play the discs.

I have few if any concerns regarding the discs holding up for decades, however I do have some concerns regarding the supply of 4k players and their longevity. Blu Ray players were produced en masse and there are tons and tons of them floating around to ensure that my discs will always have a means to be played. Even if the supply of standalone players dried up there are still game consoles and the vast availability of Cheap BD-R drives for Computer which would still allow me to create an ISO and thus play the file on a computer or burn it again if needed. 4k however has much fewer players, requires massive amounts of storage space for a handful of films, cannot be backed up to disc as easily, and requires special types of drives to even get the file off of the disc.

I am of course thinking about a worst case scenario that in all likelihood will never come to pass, but the ease at which Blu Rays can be played and replaced does give me a certain level of comfort at this time that's hard to ignore.

I'm still pretty picky about 4k but I've settled on some of the following rules to help guide my purchases...

1) The Price must be less than $20 or it must be a film I absolutely love in order to spend more. (in other words unless I am required to pick up a 4k, Vinegar Syndrome I am looking at you, I will usually choose to wait for a lower price, or purchase the blu ray for the lower price if that option is available)

2) The Price difference between the Blu Ray edition and the 4k edition needs to be around $7 or less. I have a hard time justifying even $20 if a $10 Blu ray is available, UNLESS the Blu ray is 10 years old and uses a different master, then there is some additional consideration given to the 4k edition. (Case in point, American Psycho).

3) New release films are always considered if a 4k is available at that $20 or less price (or I think prices will dip below that amount within a few months and am ok with waiting).

4) Older films are upgraded only if they are considered BIG films for me and my library with what I believe will be lot's of replay-ability. (IE. The Halloweens, The NOES', The Matrix, Mission Impossible films, etc. So in other words, as much as I love horror, I do not plan to upgrade most titles unless they are part of a pretty big franchise and/or are beloved by me)

To date there isn't much from Scream Factory on 4k that I felt the need to purchase immediately. I'm still needing to pick up Halloween and Halloween 3 but have set a firm line of $22 for each release, and the rest of the films I'm either not interested in, or hoping for a slightly better price (Alligator I'm looking at you.). If somehow prices hit some stupidly low amount like $10 - $12 I'd likely purchase them all, but since I don't see that happening, my 4k collection growth will likely remain much, much smaller than that of my Blu Ray Collection.

I'm happy to upgrade if it's a fresh, new remaster that's a significant improvement over a several years old blu ray.

But when there's a new remaster released on blu ray, then a year or two later the same remaster is released on UHD, that's not enough of an upgrade for me to bother.

I'm definitely with you on the longevity part, which is why this will probably be my last format for film. I have had many scratched up UHDs, which is why I am so anal about my discs being immaculate, as UHDs appear to arrive scratched more often than blus did, and the discs seem way more prone to it.

The players themselves, I agree, if I see the players begin to really start disappearing I'll probably buy a backup player and put it in storage. But only time will tell.

yes, but then a steelbook version will come out, or a special edition with a director's cut, then a boxed set, then.....

Hahaha thankfully I don't really care about re-releases like that unless the on disc content is worth it!

This is pretty much my mo as well. I've upgraded to absolute essential favorites and will continue to here and there, but I'm buying a lot less in general and am just about ready to sit on my collection like it's a pile of gold. Something like Alligator interests me because I've never actually seen it and I do like the UHD format so far, but it's hella expensive for what it is and blu-rays of most things I have still look amazing to me. That said, I'll be all over any Carpenter titles Scream puts out.

Pretty much the same story here. I’ll only upgrade if the release is a movie I don’t own, the transfer/sound is a huge upgrade, or it's one of my favorite films.

Certainly has saved me some cash here and there.

I personally don't and won't, with the only exception being if the blu ray was absolute garbage and there's not a different reasonably priced version out there. Having grown up on thrashed, rented VHS tapes blu ray is more than enough for me.

Resurrecting this question on Jennifer 8 (I know there’s been all the noise around Cool World so I won’t touch that).

I swear there was an announcement on Shout’s Facebook page but it’s gone. Was this just another title that was announced, maybe to drive down the cost of those impossibly high OOP BluRays on eBay?

We'd be more likely to see a deluxe re-release of the Mummy and Horror of Dracula in the vein of Curse of Frankenstein from the archive themselves.
The Hammer House of Horror episodes are quite good, in general and feature actors like Peter Cushing, Denholm Elliot etc.
There are 2 more Hammer TV series that are owned by Fox in North America. Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense aka Fox Mystery Theater is one. I had taped the episodes off the air and haven't watched them since the 80s. This might be their weakest series. The rarest, which has had no official home video release is Journey to the Unknown. I have a few episodes on 16mm film. The films are from Fox. I got the rest of the episodes by trading. There was a TV movie that preceeded the show that had 2 episodes. One of them features Vera Miles trapped in a spooky library after it closes and she is locked in. I don't recall the other episode. It seems this has been forgotten or has legal issues. Some of these might be on YouTube. I seriously doubt any official release will happen anytime soon.

I actually prefer Mystery and Suspense over Horror. I'd like to see that one hit blu ray someday.

Child's Play may have been the first episode that I saw from there, which I quite enjoyed.

I would love Howling 4, 5 & 6. That so-called "Howling" 7 is a HUGE PIECE OF SH!T. I rented the VHS when it came out in 1995 and I wished I could have gotten my $3 back. It is ABYSMAL. Awful, awful waste of film. The negatives if they still exist need to be thrown into an active volcano.
I would NOT take that on ANY format even if it was free.
Howling Reborn is pretty good. It rode the coattails of Twilight but still it's a Academy Award material up against that New Moon Rising $h!t.

Another site exclusive quietly added: Meatcleaver Massacre (1977)

https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=7800

Have to admit I'm not familiar with this one, but it looks like they're selling it on Christopher Lee's involvement, which appears to be limited to additionally shot bookend segments (you can watch both versions of the film).
