I actually preferred Psycho II to the original. It's the best performance of Anthony Perkins's career, at least to this viewer.

I used to be in the "I mainly want new-to-Blu titles to be announced" camp but now not so much. I mean, I still want never-before-released stuff but I've become so enamored of 4K that I no longer mind if the majority of announcements today are 4K upgrades. I'm no 4K "purist", mind you, just a guy who wants the absolute best in picture quality regardless of the film. Newer Hollywood blockbusters and stuff shot on film, not so much, but anything shot on film will be enough of a noticeable uptick that I think is worth spending money on. I should note that I just got a new OLED TV and that it is fueling my 4K fire more than ever before so maybe I'm biased

Going back to the never-before-released or movies that need an upgrade topic, there's a lot of stuff out there that just isn't available or is being tied up by labels who are just sitting on the films. For instance, I asked the Kino Insider years ago about the 2000 Michael Winterbottom Western The Claim. He said someone else had picked up the rights. I don't even remember when I asked but it's gotta be at least 3 years now and still no sign of the film. This is why I don't want to sit around wishing for new stuff, I'd just rather enjoy the upgrades and get the best out of my new TV now.

I’m firmly in the ‘I want a nice even balance of new, never on disc stuff and 4K upgrades’ camp.

Give us a new to disc flick and a Sleepaway Camp, Psycho 2 4K upgrade in the same announcement. Scratches everyone’s itch then.

I've never gotten a new Bu-ray with scratches on them. Grease? Yes. My copy of The Funhouse just arrived gunk-free. Maybe it's one of those made in Germany.

I haven’t gotten any scratches yet. Just a light bit of residue in the cases but nothing on the discs.

By saying that, I’m pretty sure my Halloween 4K set is going to be scratched and gunky now.

My last two oversized packages from Shout were in bad shape though - an envelope that was completely waterlogged and ripped open (missing one product) and the other looked like it had been crushed and two of the cases inside damaged (discs and inserts were fine). USPS stickers said they were received damaged.

I'm probably not changing anyone's mind is mentioning this, but, one of the brilliant aspects of Peeping Tom, a brilliant movie, is the killer as the protagonist. He is a stand-in for the film-goer. Powell and Pressburger subversively question the pleasure of watching a movie by suggesting that it's voyeurism. That was a step too far even for audiences who weren't offended by Hitchcock's film. It took decades for the movie's reputation to be repaired. I think it's brilliant. The whole film works on multiple levels in relation to the acts of watching or making a film.

i think it’s weird when there are so many people who love slashers, which all put you in the eyes of the killer and that becomes the only reason people see the movie in the sequels… don’t like or don’t want to watch peeping tom. it even comes out the same as psycho, which has a voyeuristic killer.

norman bates and the killer from peeping tom really aren’t that different. just the killer from peeping tom doesn’t have a hacky, backstory. i haven’t seen if in forever, but i think he only does it for pleasure? but don’t quote me.

too much for audiences in the 1960s, but standard fare all through the 1980s. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For me the best part of 4k is that it pushes companies to re-scan films in higher quality than the dated masters used for many blu rays.

Watching Nightmare at Noon and have noticed the aspect ratio changes a few times. Anyone notice that on this Blu-ray?

Those are the scenes shot for IMAX.

He has a backstory. His father was a psychologist, who subjected Mark in childhood to various experiments that measured his response to frightening stimuli. It's implied that Mark never had a moment growing up where he wasn't a subject of the film camera. He never had the experience to know the difference between reality and life in front of a camera, because his reality was life in front of a camera.

One of the great conceits of Peeping Tom is the suggestion that Mark's suicide on (and by) camera at the end of the film is also the end of the movie his father started filming, with Mark as the subject.

Personally I won’t even buy standard BD anymore. If a movie isn’t available on UHD I simply won’t own it.
Then your not a film fan, your a format/pixel count stalwart. Your also limiting and cutting yourself off from tons of great catalog releases that will never get a 4k, and I read your other posts and not everything is available on iTunes.
You could easily buy a 50-60 in TV for 1080p content if you think it looks terrible on your projection screen. I'm a big supporter of labels like Kino that release tons of great cheap blus of stuff that will never get a 4k. I watch them on an 85" and they look good to me. I also own some DVDs and VHS of content that has never been released on blu.
