All of the 4K discs are scratch free. I looked at most of the Blu-rays and they were also fine, with the exception of one small scratch on Lifeforce.

All of the titles had slipcovers as well.

Upon opening and inspection, 8 out of 15 of my 4k disc/Blu-ray combo that arrived yesterday have scratches/oil on either the 4k disc or Blu-ray disc or both, not happy about this with a $300 purchase. The scratches are all on the outside of the disc working inwards, some an inch long. I have yet to view/test these disc for playability.

The Company of Wolves 4k disc - heavy scratches
Return of the Living dead Blu-ray disc 3 special features -moderate scratches
Wargames Blu-ray disc - heavy scratches
Carrie Blu-ray disc 3 special features - heavy scratches
Child's Play 4k disc - oil over entire disc literally
Child's Play disc 2 Blu-ray oil over entire disc, light scratches
Child's Play disc 3 Blu-ray - light oil and heavy scratches
Dog Soldiers Blu-ray disc - heavy scratches
Cat People 4k disc - moderate scratches
Candyman theatrical cut Blu-ray disc -heavy scratches

My copy of Halloween 4k was covered in scratches too. Both the Blu ray and the UHD. The extras disc was fine. Glad I checked this thread. I haven’t got time to give them a spin. Are they playing for some of you that have had this issue?
If not is there a customer service option with Shout Factory (I live in the UK) or should I just inform Amazon where I purchased this from. Thanks 🙏

Yeah,
I ordered a bunch from this sale and at least 6 of the discs were scratched. I took pics and emailed customer service on Monday. Now besides a generic we work out of the office email, I have yet to get a reply.
Usually it doesn’t take that long. Should I send another email if I don’t hear back from them by Tuesday? I figure a week should be enough time for them to reply.
I literally hate ordering anything from anyone anymore. Lately I have not received one order from anyone that Doesn’t have at Least 1 disc scratched. During these sales, I order tons of titles. I do not have time to watch all my discs as I get them in. The last kino sale I ordered around 29 movies.
It’s sad. I should be able to buy something brand new and assume it looks perfect , because it is new. It’s pathetic that new product is arriving damaged and the excuse is the damage isn’t that bad, or well does the disc still work?
How’s about I go to someone who works at these companies and sell them a car without part of a bumper or with my name keyed into their door. Then I can ask them, does the car still drive? Does it still run? Does the scratch affect the driving performance of the car?

I'm beginning to wonder if this is an act of sabotage targeted at SF and Criterion, since they seem to be the two labels most people are complaining about. Is someone actually going down there and sneaking into the pressing plant and changing the settings on some machine? Or maybe paying someone to do it? Who knows. It's just so bizarre to see so many complaints even if it's by the same 4 or 5 people on these forums. I don't do FaceplantbookTM so I don't know if more folks are complaining there. I guess I'm lucky I don't have any scratches on my disc. The saboteur must've been on a break when my discs were being pressed

This is the number one thing that has occurred to me as well with this issue. I admit it's sketch beyond belief. Someone who's trying to eliminate physical media maybe. CDs are pretty much they way of the dodo now. It's been happening with Kino too but doesn't seem to be as frequent with them lately. There's been a lot picture evidence posted on these forums too.

Trust me, it's not just those 2 labels. It may seem that way because they have more "fans" on this site, but I've gotten scratched discs from Sony, Universal, Warner Bros, and recently (which is really troubling) a Paramount disc: Star Trek Lower Decks Season 3, which is actually an MOD release (so probably not from Germany). Does anyone know where the MOD discs are manufactured?

People get scratched discs, with similar patterns from Severin too, but they also aren't garnering the notoriety of SF or Criterion. Either people simply aren't looking as closely at those releases because they don't have the scratch reputation, or it's not being made as big a deal about.

Take a look at someone's Four Flies on Grey Velvet 4K disc for instance:

My TV Cut DVD of Halloween II from the UHD release was cracked on the outer edge. Not a big loss since I own two other copies.

I strongly urge those getting scratched discs to post the titles/pics in the Scratched Discs thread to keep track of this crap. Sorry to hear so many got damaged product when they paid for new.

Really, these companies should make some kind of statement to their customers about trying to fix this issue.

Will be interesting to see a video that shows how they proceed in these pressing plants.

I will definitely be posting pics after this is all resolved.
I don't want to jeopardize a resolution by posting here but I'm pretty annoyed.
Putting it on the customer to take photos that are a little difficult to capture and say that playback has to be affected to get a replacement is ridiculous.

I’ve just been through Amazon and got a refund on my Halloween 4k. On further inspection on the discs though it doesn’t seem to be all scratches and more like a problem with the plastic the case is made of releasing some sort of oily crap. As someone said earlier it can be wiped off the discs and the case. After cleaning the discs there are a few lighter scratches but it doesn’t look as bad as before. I’ve taken the Halloween discs out of the case and put in some random discs I’m not bothered about just to see if any more of this going to come off as it’s sits on the shelf. Fingers crossed.
