Walter Hill directed it. I'm not being sarcastic - he is a great director, and all of his films are worth seeing.

I watched this film for the first time last year, and I didn't care for it a lot. I loved whenever Atkins was on screen, but it didn't land for me. That being said, I'd absolutely buy a 4K of it and rewatch in a different frame of mind.

Hill is my favorite director, but you're not wrong. What you neglected to mention is Miller's Crossing, which also cribs from Hammett's novels The Glass Key and Red Harvest, with two feuding outfits (Irish and Italian) during Prohibition.

It's a decent time killer, but I'm likely good with my Last Boy Scout/Last Man Standing twofer disc, depending on how involved Hill is in the supplements. Given that it's already on Blu, Shout seems to be missing an opportunity to release it on 4k.

The 80s hit such a sweet spot with fun horror movies that are absolutely ideal for this time of year.

The two you mentioned are part of a hallowed group for me that also includes:

An American Werewolf in London
Fright Night
Re-Animator
Return of the Living Dead
The Evil Dead/Evil Dead II

We could be here all day listing notable ones, but for me those are a "cut above the rest".

Damn, what a month! Picking up Clue, Point Break, The Dead Zone, JFK, and The Ring Collection (specifically for the first movie). I'll pick up the Man in the Iron Mask upgrade sometime later during a sale. Already own the German release of Last Man Standing, so I'll wait and see with that one.

Gotta agree with you here. Shout is killing it lately. Just too many titles I want to pick up recently…Clue, Fargo & Point Break in today’s order. Going to have to try and spread out some of this spending…

I got a reply from Shout Factory regarding if they will be having a Shocktober sale, and unfortunately they are not at liberty to say about future promotions, and to stay tuned to social media and the newsletter about sales that may take place

Forgive the question (prob been asked/answered hundred of times) but whats the deal with Shout and slips. Is it Collectors Editions that have slips (like my Red Dawn) and vanilla releases that don’t (likeWarGames)?

Yeah, if it's a Collector's Edition in the Scream line it'll have a slip, Shout Select Collector's Editions are a little more inconsistent, but lately most of them have been including slips as well (Red Dawn, Natural Born Killers, Clue, Point Break, etc..). All non-CE releases don't typically include slips, though there are exceptions like the "Special Edition" of Coma that also comes with one.

Here are the Select CE's that never included a slip (let me know if I miss any)

Hackers 4K
Used Cars 4K
Streets of Fire 4K
Midnight Run 4K
The Last Detail 4K
Cool World
Colors
Trespass
A Walk to Remember
Downfall
Nighthawks
T.A.M.I. Show / The Big T.N.T. Show
Dudes
Into the Night
Three O'Clock High
Born in East L.A.
Hype!
Holy Motors
Chuck Berry Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll
The Incredibel Shrinking Woman

Default The films in Shout's December lineup

Out of the films in Shout's December slate, The Dead Zone and Clue I'm interested in getting (Clue moreso, partly because of that documentary released earlier this year as a VS Partner label title that I wanted to see). I've definitely not seen either film in full (just bits). Yes, if that documentary could be included as an extra, that would be welcome.

Truly some top notch choices, Night of the Creeps and Fright Night are my two favorite horror films but any in that list are right there.

I don't know if I'll continue doing these thorough and time-consuming searches every month going forward, but of course if I come across something, I'll let you all know. I also just want to thank everyone here that has given these posts support, and put trust in my guesswork.

MifuneFan, your contributions are much appreciated (the speculations/predictions/guesswork for example). While I'd still like to see physical media releases of some older television series in the works from Shout, I have been liking the announcements of the films and TV films licensed from Warner Brothers (some of the ones still on my want list kind of tie into part of the second post quoted above (I had been wondering which of them originally came with slipcovers or slipcases, and what you say has given me a clearer idea of which of them did originally come with a slipcover or slipcase).

Anyway, I'm hoping we see further Warner Brothers films and TV films in the future from Shout (and maybe the odd Warner Brothers television series).

Wow!!! WTF!!! What a crazy month from Shout. They really don't want me to buy my kids Christmas gifts this year. We knew a bunch of these were coming, but all in the same month... I'm going to ask for nothing but gift cards this year to pay for this sh#t. I'll be the 'easy' guy to buy for...
