I paid using Afterpay. At first, I thought maybe that was causing the delay, but I don't have such issues with PayPal's pay-in-4.

You know, I was just about to say I also paid using Afterpay so maybe you were on to something there BUT as I was typing I just got a shipping notification! Hoping yours will soon be on the way for you too.

I suppose it's possible but seems extremely unlikely that Stone would mandate such a requirement. It's much more plausible that Shout just wanted to save some money by not having to produce 2 UHD discs for each set, or spend the time to offer both cuts with branching.

I finally got a shipping notice for my first sale order. Somehow, it ended up in my spam folder.

Why do Shout! use the thinnest disc hubs for their UHD cases? So many titles I've gotten from them arrived with loose discs or disc that fall out immediately upon opening. Plus it's hard to know if you've secured the disc in place.

My Halloween 6 UHD disc fell on the floor the other day when I opened it. I have noticed more and more loose discs for sure

I just wanted to ask again about the elm street BoxSet on UHD. Is it basically a matter of them making a deal with Warner? Or is it more complicated than that? It seems like this should be the next big title/project that SF go after as a company?

Last I heard about that was that Warner’s holding Elm Street tight and won’t let any label take a swing at it.

If we’re lucky, we might get a 4K of the Original Film next year from Warner to celebrate the 40th Anniversary.

I heard the same from a very reliable source. Warner doesn't want to license the franchise to any of the boutique labels.

Warner is still refusing the license the Elm Street franchise even after a change in management? I thought the holdup was tied to a legal dispute within the Craven estate something or other. The studios are licensing pretty much anything these days so I don't think Warner is THAT interested in "protecting" Freddy Krueger by keeping the series for themselves. The last remake didn't even do that well. I don't remember any of it.

The hold up has always just been WB not wanting to license the films. The Craven estate reclaimed the copyright to the original screenplay, but that has no bearing on copyright or distribution rights to the existing films. That copyright reclamation was a pretty much a textbook example and it never sounded like WB tried to really stop it. Conversely, the F13 script copyright case actually had some conflict and dragged on for years, during which Paramount continued to license out the films and press new bare bones editions regularly. For ANoES, WB can’t do any new movies without the Craven estate onboard (and stuff like action figures probably need both parties to sign off), but there shouldn’t be any legal hurdles to licensing out the existing films (and TV series). There’s even strong evidence that WB could license them out anytime - FvJ is included in Scream’s F13 box.

I’ve generally assumed that WB’s reluctance to license the ANoES franchise out was because they had decided that a boutique release would cut into the profits from their periodic repressing and variant cover releases (so, money, the usual corporate reason). Personally I feel like the “$25 bare bones endcap at Walmart” customer and the “$150 collectors edition with 8 million hours of special features” customer would easily support both releases, but I’m not an accountant for WB.

There are a couple other remote possibilities - a gentleman’s agreement with the Craven estate not to license out the films to third parties; enough of the New Line old guard around that have strong emotional ties to keeping the franchise in house; work on new features or packaging art requiring sign off from the Craven estate that WB doesn’t want to deal with.

Again, the licensing out of FvJ suggest that the issue is just that WB doesn’t want to license out the franchise (which for corporate America generally means it’s money related). Nightmare isn’t really unique in that it’s owners don’t want to license it out - it just stands out to us because horror fans have such great boutique releases for so many of our favorites.

Yeah, I always figured that wb sees anoes as too valuable to license out, but not valuable enough to make new restorations a priority, so it's just kinda stuck in limbo.

It’s unfortunate WB acquired New Line. We would like have received an awesome boxset either from Shout Factory or New Line had the acquisition not happened.

It's very strange as WB has let Universal and Paramount use Freddy in two movies and theme park venues.

I saw John Carpenter on The Late Show earlier. Think I’ll watch Vampires for it’s 25th Anniversary.
Not the best JC film, but it has a distinct vibe and James Woods is ridiculous.
