The slips are only guaranteed on direct orders from Shout. They don’t have any control over what retailers do regarding slips.

In this case, it's not the retailer doing something with the slips. With Silver Bullet 4K, the items came from the distributor, for some retailers, sans slip even before the release date rolled around.

They DO have control over what their distributor does.

It wasn’t as bad when Shout had their slips shrunk together with the rest of the packaging. Now they are just over top again, which leads to places just tossing them or accepting returns with the slip missing, not to mention more overall damage.

I wouldn't be shocked if they repressed slips for some titles up to 6 months+ later if the sales were consistent and strong. As we've seen though, Shout often carries a license for 5+ years and so after that first year or so it starts to make less sense to reissue the slips when they were, and have always been, an incentive to buy early at a higher price as opposed to when they were on sale later on down the road.

On the two titles you mentioned I'd guess that this is what happened. Both were highly sought after at the time of release and likely sold very well during those early months and provided enough incentive to shout factory to repress not just the disc, but the slips as well.

Not sure how long from the first pressing to the actual one I ended up getting was, so I can't say for certain.

On the night of NYE I watched The Dead Zone. I'd read Stephen King's novel few decades ago, but hadn't previously seen the film version.

Christopher Walken plays Johnny Smith, a literature teacher who comes out of a 5 year coma after a terrible accident and discovers he now has psychic abilities - when he touches someone, he can see events in their past / future. But the gift is not without its dark side.

From what I remember of King's book, the script is a very clean and streamlined distillation of the themes. Unlike the sprawling multi-threaded narrative of the novel it shows almost everything from the protagonist's POV. This austerity is also reflected in the style of the film, shot in winter with white, bare landscapes. The performances are kept real (King's favorite device of the religious nutter mum is given short shrift here). The chemistry between Walken and the lovely Brooke Adams as his former girlfriend is palpable, and a linchpin that decides many of the actions Walken takes. Compared to some of Cronenberg's other films, this is a warm, humanistic romance drama (like The Fly). The protagonist goes from a man embittered by fate's hand to someone willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of his fellow man. Walken is usually known as a quirky cold-blooded villain type, but he does very well here as the kind-natured Smith. Definitely a film I liked a lot and will revisit.

The transfer on the Shout 1080p blu is terrific, with lush (but not overdone) colors and lovely resolution of film grain. The stereo audio is a solid track with good presence (there's also a 5.1 option), Michael Kamen's score sounds great. There's a whole bunch of extras including 3 commentaries (none by Cronenberg, though) and several interviews, will report back on those when I'm done.

Of course, those who have the hardware, the 4K is the way to go, but 1080p folks can have a great time too with this release.

P2, Turistas and Cry_Wolf should've been out ten years ago. Scream Factory what are y'all doing?!

Or they just don't have anything to announce. That happened quite a bit a few years back.

How dare you show your (digital) face around here without leaks!

They either wised up, or maybe they have delays in production/planning.

If SF don't intend to announce anything officially until Monday (as seems likely now), it's still very probable they could leak before then.

For what it's worth, they did announce on a Friday this time last year. But yeah, I'm more expecting Monday and will be happily surprised if there's something at the end of this week.

Or they don’t have anything lol. Granted it was the end of the year, but they only announced like 3 titles right last month?
