Not sure if this has been mentioned. I did skim a few pages but my poster for Phantoms came missing the plastic caps on the ends of the tube. Apparently, according to Shout Factory has eliminated this practice for cost cutting purposes. And, of course, my poster fell out of the tube onto the floor creasing the edge. I know my own fault. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Wait, no end caps on the poster tubes? How are they closed off then? Do they crimp the ends or something like that

The ends of the tube were wide open. Very puzzling to me. I want to understand but I don’t get it.

This wouldn't make sense even from a costcutting perspective. I purchase end caps similar to what Shout uses and 100 cost $16.99 on Amazon. They would be purchasing by the 1000's which would decrease costs quite a bit. If they don't use the end caps, what would the point of still putting them in tubes be? Also they will get a lot more people asking for replacements due to damage which would negate any savings.

It’s like they’re trying to make people less and less interested in ordering from their site directly. What’s next?!, are they going to charge people extra to have their item shipped in a box and ship everything else in bubble mailers?

Also J. Philip if you’re able to, could you provide a visual?

Did they ship the entire package in a box? How would the tube make it through the post without end caps?

I feel like they'd save more money by fixing the sheer volume of returns they get due to scratched discs, but what do I know. I don't have a business degree and so I'll trust them that eliminating a protective plastic cap is the way to go.

Nothing says we care about the collector market (you know, the market keeping them and physical media alive) like scratched discs and cheaping out on the physical portion of collecting.

I'm not one to complain about Shout Factory but Jesus it seems like they are just trying to piss off their customers and drive their business into the ground. I can only assume that a bunch of CEO level executives are driving this decision with no knowledge of what has actually brought them the success they've seen over the last 2 decades. At this rate I'm not kidding when I say that I don't expect Shout Factory to be around in 5 years as there are far too many competitiors that just do it better at this point.

Next the discs and artwork will ship without the plastic Blu-ray case. Why not since the discs will be scratched anyway

Is it true that Warner owns ‘American Samurai (1993)’? That would be really sweet if SF debuted it on BluRay, even as one of those limited run website only releases.

Sorry for not posting a picture. Still having issues posting pics. However, this is from my email with Shout Factory:

Me:
Hello, I have been long time supporter of Shout Factory. I received my order, opened the package, I picked up the tube the poster comes in and the poster fell to the floor. There are no plastic caps on the ends of the tube. Is this an oversight or a new practice to save money? I am not sure I agree with this practice.

Shout:
Hi there,

This is the updated method by which we are packaging posters, excluding the end caps.

In the future, we will adhere to this procedure for all posters for the time being.
As long as the tube is stored horizontally, the item should remain undamaged.

We appreciate your understanding,

Shout Factory

Hope this is helpful

I'm so confused. When poster tubes are purchased, would they not come with end caps? Are there companies just selling tubes without caps, and also caps without tubes?!

The package arrived in their normal box with the movie and tube wrapped in Shout Factory paper. No end caps on the tube.

I'm not a business major but I do know a good bit about business and have lots of experience. Almost 100% of the time, the bigger the company gets, the dumber those in charge get. Happens so much it's almost guaranteed everytime. So I say we're to the point now where those in charge at SF are basically droolers, beating on their chest with the side of their hands like duuuuuuuuurrrrrr. Straight re re at this point. Trying to understand the logic of something that has no logic to begin with will do nothing but drive you crazy.

I'm not much of a poster guy but I would stop buying them if this is how they're shipping them now. And MifuneFan is right - tubes are not usually sold wholesale without the caps. Maybe they're recycling the plastic to use for manufacturing cases lol.

I agree with another poster who said they don't envision Shout Factory being around in a few years time. Their hearts don't seem to be in it anymore, just coasting along releasing modern films nobody asks for and jettisoning CS and QC in a quest to save money. A company that exists just to sell a product isn't a company people follow or respect. It's not just about selling products, it's also about making sure the product is manufactured properly and gets to the customer in one piece. That's not happening here.

Impatiently waiting for the Shout Factory Defense League to step in and justify this practice because you can still hang and look at the poster, why are you whining about some cosmetic creases?
