USA Yesterday's Scream Factory title announcements for October

I think in a way I was glad there was nothing among yesterday's Scream Factory title announcements that I would definitely get. At a push, if there was anything which I would get at some point it would be Shocker: Collector's Edition. I recall seeing the movie poster artwork for this film for the first time when I was at secondary school. Having Mitch Pileggi in the film (thinking of The X-Files), I'd be thinking I would have seen this film already, but it's not been high on my watch list.

I have a list of Shout DVD and Blu-ray titles that I still haven't got yet (but some of them I'm wondering now if Arrow are going to release them somewhere down the line).

As far as Universal Craven goes i would’ve preferred The Serpent and the Rainbow (which we’ll probably still get,) but I think Shocker is goofy fun.

Interesting what shout does and doesn't decide to give a atmos track to. Shocker is a interesting pick indeed.

I just came across a surprising new development. It appears Shout! Factory will begin selling some of their releases through Allied Vaughn / MovieZyng. They currently have 5 titles listed. I'm not sure if this is a new alternative to their limited edition site exclusive strategy, or what. On the plus side, there is a potential for less scratched discs going this route. Allied Vaughn are the same company that manufactures discs for Warner Archive. These releases should be sold elsewhere as well, but not as many places as a wide release would be.

Here is the first wave, which all appear to be coming in September:

A World Without Thieves (2004)

Big Fan (2009)

Clockwatchers (1997)

Linoleum (2022)

Miranda (2002)

Could this indicate a gradual shift to this new distributor? Maybe they've had enough of scratched disc issues.

We'll have to wait and see, but I don't think so. I think this is sort of another alternative to their Shout Exclusives, where they don't see them selling well, and just making them on demand. One of the titles, Linoleum was previously released on DVD last year by them. SF has rights to hundreds of films, so this is potentially a good thing for many more to come out now.

The exclusives seem to do fairly well most of the time but a lot of people are probably turned off by the high prices and minimal effort. Evil That Men Do, for instance, should've sold like gangbusters but there's still stock available. The Corman stuff seems to do well despite the minimal effort. It's like throwing darts at a wall I guess.

That's more of a replication/manufacturing thing than distribution. Shout titles are distributed by SDS, which encompasses Universal, Warner, Well Go, Neon, eOne, etc. While plenty of studios/labels dabble in manufacturing-on-demand, I wouldn't expect Shout to move wholesale in that direction.

Oh nice, Big Fan!

Linoleum is a lovely movie, btw---I watched it on a plane headed to Colorado last summer on a whim and was kinda bummed that THAT was the environment for it.

It would great if they were going the MOD route for titles that would otherwise be limited exclusives. It's been a while since they announced any, hasn't it? Hopefully they'll reprint some of the past exclusives too.

Loaded month of titles from some of horror's best directors. 2010 getting some nice representation with Wolfman and Devil.

Darkness and Fear City were the last two new exclusives, back in May. (Or June, if you count the reissues of Space Truckers and Attack of the Crab Monsters.)

I wouldn't expect for SF to go all MOD, but Allied Vaughn would be the distributor for the MOD titles.

Curious about these Allied Vaughn titles and if they will be sold on the Shout website around the same time?

Absolutely. Sorry for my clumsy wording that may have suggested otherwise.

Hoping A World Without Thieves goes up on their website soon, as I want to get the Stepfather as well, bug waiting for that free shipping threshold.

Maybe we'll finally get State Park (1988) and Grind (2003)?

Shout has both on Tubi.
