In any case, thank you for S2. You could tell that a lot of effort was put into the release and I hope you can make it work.

Keep up with all the great work!

Here are a few suggestions of my own:

POSSESSION (1981):
IMDB ID: tt0082933

I understand Anchor Bay released this a few years ago and may still have the rights, but according to a post in the IMDB talkback section, a new remastered print was played just last month:

Quote:
Thank you very much for your response. I viewed the trailer on YouTube before going to the screening and was worried that people were going to laugh all the way through the film as it was hard to tell if it was an over-the-top cheesy horror film or an intense mind-bending kind of film. But no one in my sold out theater laughed. Not even during the "subway scene", if I even labeled that correctly. The audience was completely silent throughout the whole thing. In fact, it was the quietest screening of a film I have ever been to, which is especially shocking considering that it was completely sold out. We showed up 45 minutes early and there was already a line for it and we saw some people get turned away at the box office because there were no more tickets left. I didn't even see one person leave during the movie--everyone just sat there completely focused on the screen. Then, when it was over, the audience clapped. Granted, this was a theater dedicated to showing obscure, offbeat films, so I'm sure the people that showed up for it for were prepared for this type of thing.

I really enjoyed the film myself and the print looked terrific. Someone obviously took great care of it and it was nice to see the little "pops" up in the corner to signify a reel-change again. I haven't seen those in ages what with all of the new digital presentations movie houses are showing these days.

I'm still very confused about many of the things I saw, but all in all it was a very nice experience to be able to see this film in a rare 35mm screening, especially since I live in the U.S. where it is currently out of print.

FORTRESS (1992):
IMDB ID: tt0106950

Miramax put out the US dvd a long, long time ago, so this one may be a better option as far as availability. The only really good version I know of is an anamorphic release in Spain (region 2 PAL).

SPACE TRUCKERS (1996):
IMDB ID: tt0120199

This was put out on dvd by a 3rd rung company (I don't even think they exist anymore), and non-anamorphic at that. What do you know, it's another Stuart Gordon movie!

NECRONOMICON (1993):
IMDB ID: tt0107664

And speaking of Stuart Gordon, here is another one. This one wasn't even given a proper dvd release in the US... all we got was a stinking VHS tape! Tough I will say that at least the Europeans got a decent special edition.

DEATH MACHINE (1994):
IMDB ID: tt0109575

Okay, here is my last one. Again, while we did get a dvd release in the US (pan and scan), it is the 99 minute bastardized cut. Now I understand that Norrington himself doesn't like the 120 minute cut (released on an extremely hard to find Japanese laserdisc and more recently, a German anamorphically enhanced [but OOP] dvd), but that (at least to me) is the superior cut of the film.

According to IMDB, BMG has (the rights to) them (the director's cut).

CMAC: I would personally fly over to your house and wash your car if you put out (the 120 minute version of) DEATH MACHINE on blu-ray.

And will most likely get a 60th Anniversary Edition from them next year.

Really a shame about the bad Asian horror sales, but well, thanks for the clear answer

I've heard that the U.S. editions of "Halloween II" and "Halloween III" from Scream! Factory have on them more "goodies" than the Canadian editions from E One Entertainment. Is that true??

Cliff,

Is there any chance off getting the last 3 seasons of Green Acres? I know the show has an audience and it was pretty funny....just wondering.

Thanks!

I don't why but its kind of embarrassing that I like that show.

Here's hoping that it gets a special edition next year to coincide with the anniversary.... I highly doubt it though.

I'd second this. The Anchor Bay dvd was from 2000 and is way expensive on the resale market. Blue Underground later rereleased this on DVD in 2008, but that might just be a rebranded copy of the earlier Anchor Bay DVD. Both appear to be long out of print. I'm guessing neither company currently has the DVD/Blu-Ray rights anymore, so who knows where they are at this point. The imdb company credits for the film indicate that Bleeding Light Film Group had US theatrical rights as of 2011.

Prying away a few movies from MGM (I believe Fox is their current distributor) would be a great coup for Scream Factory. They have the bulk of the Vincent Price horror classics everyone would definitely want, and many of them have existing HD transfers that look fairly decent, as seen on MGM's movie channel.

We tried to get it from MGM a year or so ago and they wanted to hold onto the series.

Cliff, I have an honest hypothetical question for you, one that I hope fate can make happen in the near future.

Let's say that Anchor Bay finally gives up the rights to the original Halloween and they somehow, through miracle, end up in Shout!/Scream's hands. Would you attempt to present the long wanted "Dean Cundey-approved" color timing of the film, or would you try and find a happy medium between that and the current disc's timing?

I know this is a somewhat controversial issue between Halloween fans here and abroad the net, but I wanted to know your stance. I lean Cundey-approved myself (Not saying it's right or wrong or better or worse than the current disc's timing, I just prefer it more), those nighttime blues would be glorious in hi-def.

Damn... now I really hope it's MGM.
I would buy an overwhelming majority of that list.

Sadly, I don't see that happening. I believe AB renewed their rights

Not surprising, Anchor Bay will hold onto "Halloween" and "The Evil Dead" for as long as they possibly can I'd imagine.

Cliff, for next Friday's announcement, do you guys already have a rough estimate of when you expect it to drop in 2013? Also, can you share with us whether it's a never before on DVD title before or a re-release?... Curious minds need to know
