It'd be nice if they could finally do a "reissue" of Velvet Vampire. I know they have the rights....what's the hold up?

Pretty great release slate today. Picked up Timecop, Sorority House Massacre, The Hunt, and Renfield, all

IMHO, this is lame.
Sorry, but this only reinforces my lack of faith in Shout moving forward. Collectors collect for a reason, at least I do. Re-issuing a "limited release" is just lame. For the record, I don't own any of these re-issues, and I'm glad I don't. Makes me keenly aware to not purchase any future "Limited" titles from Shout in the future. Again, JMHO. It was fun while it lasted. |

I think what the poster is pointing out is if one buys a LE (usually at a premium price) and then it is made available later, or remains for sale for years, etc. then it is really not a LE and we have bought it under false pretenses. When any company re-releases what was supposed to be a LE, then it erodes the confidence of the consumer that a future LE will truly be a "LE." That being said, I find that some of these LE are nothing more than a traditional release with so-called limited quantities. Technically that may be "limited edition" because the quantity is limited, but at this point in physical media collection I think it is fair that we expect a LE to have truly something special about it and not just limited quantities. I do not understand why "the day the world ended" is an LE/site exclusive. It has a commentary and a featurette. Pretty typical of a lot of standard releases nowadays. I also dislike site-exclusives because that gives the company a monopoly on price-gauging where we have no choice but to pay their price if we want it. I enjoy B-sci fi films from the 50's as much as anyone, but paying $27 for one film with only a commentary and featurette for one of these? Perhaps I don't love these enough! Sorry for the rant this morning. Too much coffee! |

"Limited Edition" just means it's limited by quantity - it's an effective FOMO tactic used by boutiques (mostly) to move stock quicker. Some of these small labels rely on the tactic to stay alive, some use it purely as a way to get people not to wait for a sale. Whatever you want to call it, just keep in mind that it's on you if you miss out by waiting. However, if you do miss out, there's really no need to fret since there's a good likelihood the title will come back at some point.

I'm sure in many instances SF fully intends to have made only one pressing of the release. In some cases where there's been a lot of demand they're doing some resissues. The vast majority of their store exclusives will remain OOP. I know I contacted them years back to ask about a reissue of Attack of the Crab Monsters because I missed out the first time. They said they'd consider it but their exclusive slate was full for the year already. They finally reissued it last year, and I was able to get a copy.
At the end of the day I guess it depends why you're buying the title. Are you buying it just to have something super limited or are you buying it because you actually want to own and enjoy the film? If it's the latter then does it really matter if more people get to experience it now as well? If it's the former then I have little sympathy for you. |

![]() We are not just cinephiles. many of us are collectors, and like it or not, the rarity of an item DOES make a difference in a collection. |

Well if anyone is both then they shouldn't really have a problem with other cinephiles getting a chance to own the film either. Why would it make a difference? Like "OMG my copy of Communion just went from being 1,500 in the world to 1,900. I guess it has less value now???" Like seriously, unless you're actually planning to resell it, and feel like it's going to hurt the value then it's all just mental gymnastics that people are playing to find reasons to make their version feel super special.

Also yes people need to stop bashing Shout! Factory they're putting out some great stuff, and continue to do so I'm very excited about Summer Wars re-releasing from GKIDs, and looking forward to rewatching Timecop again. Besides that, there's all the awesome hype for the Golden Princess deal, which is amazing as we get our first titles this summer for Hong Kong Action fans that's insane.
