I believe Foxy Brown received a 4K restoration some time ago. I would think that's the kind of title likely to be on Volume 1, which makes me wonder if Criterion has it.

Feels just like yesterday that a good number of boutique labels claimed "blaxploitation films don't sell well enough for blu-ray releases"...

...And now we have a multi-film blaxploitation 4K UHD box set, volume number one, on the horizon.

Yes, it was more a warning that people should pick it up before the rights lapse.

Blaxploitation Classics now up at SF. All films will have Dolby Vision / HDR. Nearly every film has a legacy commentary track, and there's a brand new documentary included (albeit part one, with further parts in the future set(s)).

I think if they if they put them both Foxy Brown and Coffy in volume one a lot of people would check out after that. Splitting them up forces more casual fans to get more than one set.

If I didn't have most of those films in the Blaxploitation set, I'd pick that up in a heartbeat, but pretty content with the ones I already have. Truck Turner and Across 110TH Street are fantastic.

Well knew there were no HK films coming this month, but really hoping we get those Jet Li films in June.

Pretty much confirms that Vol.2 will also be made up of AIP titles licensed from MGM.

Black Mask is with Eureka in the US which they released in April of last year I believe. Not sure if you have that one.

It would be nice to finally get SLAUGHTER'S BIG RIP-OFF in an HD format.

If that's in the second set, I'll buy that in two seconds flat even if all the other films are ones I already own.

I’d love for Shout to get an agreement to do the Hammer films they released in 4K (and license it for the last Hammer Frankenstein film “Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell” using the longer cut and better source from the UK. Some of these won’t have a huge upgrade because of the way the films were shot and the film stock, etc. but some would definitely benefit. Would love also to see some of the AIP films (though it appears they lost the license for many of these to Kino).

A missed opportunity for Shout on the Blaxploitation set. That artwork on a poster isn't exactly a great selling point to buy directly; they should have had a package with a Pam Grier doll (like the Tom Atkins one) or a pimp hat with a feather in it.

The VS release was a 4k scan and restoration and if they couldn't get the original negative I don't expect Shout to have either. Minimal uptick in PQ at best, and VS did great art and extras, I see no need to buy this.

Films aren't "taken", rights lapse and new contracts can be signed. However 4k rights are separate from blu ray rights and VS continues to sell Fade To Black and it has yet to be moved to the going OOP section.

I hope they do Dead Again since they're able to do What Lies Beneath. Both got their BD releases thrown together pretty cheaply by Paramount around the same time.

In for Fade to Black also, never got around to the VS Blu, but have been tempted many times by it.
