Can we go back to getting separate blurays please. Not everybody wants to pay 4K prices for these combo packs.

I am glad I am not in this business. These posts would drive me crazy.

1) Bluray only? No 4k, no sale!
2) 4k only? What about people not on 4k?
3) Why isn't the bluray included with the 4k?
3) 4k/Bluray combo? I don't want to pay for both formats.

ai, ai, ai, ai, ai.

I get it. People (myself included) have their preferences. It's an expensive hobby and it adds up very, very quickly. I don't do 4K, so I get annoyed when my choice is either pay more or don't buy it.

I get that the companies undoubtedly crunched their numbers and figured out how it would work best for them, but it sucks for the consumer.

And that's exactly why so many people are living with massive credit card debt, and from paycheck to paycheck. I mean, if someone is going to use the excuse of not making enough money to be able to afford buy a brand new 4K box set, as if that's some sort of thing that's absolutely needed on day one, then it's completely fair game to point out that if one is really in that kind of financial position then it really shouldn't be a priority at all. I in no way am dicating their spending though, it is simply an opinion. They are still free to spend whatever money they have however they want.

Idealistically, just because one doesn't make as much money as the next person doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to enjoy the same pleasures in life. Credit card companies, and the US system, are often predatory and want people in debt. It's more a problem that should be blamed on the system than on the individual. Other countries don't have these problems. Have a little compassion and empathy for others, please.

I have plenty of compassion, trust me. The argument just doesn't hold water. You and I know sales exists. So why are we talking about a 4K box set pre-order being too expensive? We all know it's eventually going to be a fraction of the price, no? It's not like I can afford every single box set when it comes out. No, I often wait for it to go on sale, at a price that I can justify and/or afford financially. The same can be said for that person, and anyone else that is complaining about a pre-order being too high for the amount of income they make,. I reiterate my opinion that a 4K pre-order really shouldn't be a priority for anyone in that position. That opinion has little to do with empathy and compassion, but just good old common sense. And I agree that there is a bigger systemic problem but the individual plays a major role in the decisions they make as well. I'll leave it at that.

Totally disagree. You can either live within your means financially or you don't.

I don't go on trips to Europe and I don't own a home or a car that I can't afford. I don't go to restaurants 5 times a week....

Would I like to? Of course I would. As Clint said in an iconic role.... "man's got to know his limitations....."

What!? What would be the incentive to earn more money then? Of course people who make more money can and should expect more pleasure in life.
If you want to buy more expensive things get a better job. I don't expect Lamborghini to reduce the price of their cars so that I can afford one.

Well, I can't trust you simply because you say so

I guess I don't have any issue with saying products are too expensive (isn't everything expensive nowadays, unfortunately?)—I guess my qualm was that you singled the one person out who claimed to be low income and told them they shouldn't be prioritizing it. Maybe it was a sock account, like someone above them said, but nevertheless, just my opinion is not to dictate to another how to live their life.

Okay fair enough. I guess in general, it does bother me to see people feeling a compulsion to buying things that seem obviously beyond their means. I think in many ways movie collecting can become an addiction, and I've seen people on here, on reddit, YT, and elsewhere rack up debt simply to keep up with everything coming out. I just don't understand that behavior personally. And while I can't truly control how anyone spends their money, I do hope they aren't putting a 4K box set over expenses for their family, home, food, utility bills, etc...

...yeah...these are niche schlock films on the most expensive premium format, not food/clothing/shelter.

I want a Lamborghini, show me some empathy, because I should be able to have one according to your logic.

Fair enough, buddy

And FYI - I certainly didn't mean to come at you personally. Just a difference in opinion on this topic (which is usually rare since I think we usually see eye-to-eye on things).

And it seems my personal spending habits seem to align with yours. Of course, I would like to buy every film I want day one, but I don't. I wait for sales in 90% of cases, unless I have to have it ASAP (the recent pre-code Sony MODs or WACs, for example)

Criterion and Arrow still do separate blurays. As they should. The price is being artificially increased because of the 4K version. Keep them at individual releases. Although there are still some titles that only have a 4K release for some stupid reason like The Long Kiss Goodnight. Which is even worse of idiotic decision. A popular movie like that not having a new bluray. People still buy and support the bluray format!!!!!!!

Paramount Presents started out as bluray only. With their first 4K they did a combo pack and that’s all they’ve done ever since. I don’t look forward to anything from them because of that. Same with Scream factory/Shout.

You independent labels want my money? Continue to produce separate blurays and new bluray remasters.

No no, I don't mind. I can often be too opinionated, even if well-intended, so I'm glad to have another person's perspective on something.
