Is Lord Of Illusions 4K UHD not going to come with a Blu Ray disk like Scream usually does(and it looks like most of the other new releases do)?They've always come as a combo and the BD disk is upgraded/remastered. Lord Of Illusions says 4K only

Someone reminded on the thread Lord Of Illusions that the 2013 Evil Dead from Scream Factory didin't have a Blu Ray disk either. Is it a rights issue?

Very disappointing if there is no BD combo since that is why I would be buying and will be passing if there is no Blu Ray disk. I don't have this on physical media and the Blu Ray release I think is OOP.

According to the front, spine, and back, it's 4k only. Unless something changes between now and then.

Sandpiper has an in-print Blu-ray, so they nabbed Blu-ray rights after Scream’s went out of print. So now Scream only has 4K rights.

Dear Shout,

Thank you for bringing this film to 4K. I've loved it since childhood, and I know I'm not alone in wanting this film to finally have a definitive presentation on home video.

However, there's one thing that I'm concerned about, and others are concerned about too.

In the original theatrical release of the film, there were burned-in English subtitles during some of the scenes with Spanish dialogue, and these subtitles have been missing on every home video release I've owned, including both Twilight Time Blu-rays from the US, the Arrow Blu-ray from the UK, the two Kino Lorber Blu-rays, and the Imprint Blu-ray from Australia. All six discs have a combination of generic subtitles, generic subtitles throughout in either English or Spanish, or in one bizarre case, Spanish subtitles during the English dialogue and none whatsoever during the Spanish dialogue.

Will this - the seventh Blu/4K release, the fifth HD release in the US, the seventh time I'm buying the movie - will this finally have the original subtitles restored, for at least the first time in 11 years?

I know I've asked this repeatedly in a few threads (sorry if I'm asking it again here), but does anyone have older copies of Alfredo Garcia, and if so can you check to see if the OG, burned-in subs are on your copies?

The copies I have in mind are the 1988 Beta/VHS (US), the 1992 VHS (US), the 1996 laserdisc (US), the 2005 MGM DVD (US), the 2017 Kino Lorber DVD (US) and the 2023 Imprint Blu-ray (Australia), but any copies you guys have would be great to check.

Edit: Imprint Blu-ray, all other Blu-rays, and the R1 and R3 DVDs from MGM are all confirmed to have generic replacement subs, thanks to the caps on the DVD Beaver website. So now we're hoping someone with a Beta, VHS, or laserdisc can come through with an answer.

As nuts as this sounds, I could live with one of the older masters, either the 2005 DVD master or the 2014 Twilight Time master, if they just had the subs.

Both of you are right. For a while, when the do a 4K+Blu-ray, they only do that release with no standard Blu.

It is really ridiculous though, because there are many who are years off from making the jump, and some who don't plan to make the jump at all. My friend who got Natural Born Killers hasn't made the jump on either his TV or his player, and so almost two years later he's still watching many of his 4K+Blus on just the Blu.

Regarding several 4K-only packages (including Planes, Trains And Automobiles, a disc we both wanted and I love despite the piss-poor AV of the film), he's pretty bothered by the fact that he'd literally be buying shelf candy if he got them, and that his choices are either two separate releases and two separate purchases, an expensive SteelBook that's $10+ more per title, or an ancient Blu-ray that sucks because the 4K is 4K-only.

It really shouldn't be this way. I get the Blu-ray only of NBK likely would get trounced 10:1 by the 4K, but there's enough people to buy it to justify the cost. Considering the same damn discs are being made for the 4K+Blu-ray sets (maybe different artwork is needed on the discs), all Shout would have to do is make new cover art, new slips, and buy new Blu-ray cases. That's pennies per release, if not less.
