Its a Full Moon title under Empire Pictures..I think its in the MGM library...
I think Full Moon will release their own titles in their own library like Puppet Master, etc.

Seriously, this demands an explanation.
I'd love to hear the suits at Universal explain how The 'Burbs blu-ray has a more viable consumer-friendly demographic in Sweden than in the U.S.

Shout licensed ROBOT WARS/CRASH & BURN and released a double feature DVD about a year ago - to date, the only Full Moon title they acquired (and one of my favorites). I'd love to see more 90's post-apocalyptic movies. Some of those were really fun.

What's wrong with the Special Edition on the market currently? Doesn't it already have most of the the things Shout would include (commentary, deleted scenes)?

Your in luck, Criterion is gonna do Scanners on special edition blu-ray later this year. Hopefully for Halloween in time for Scanners 2 and 3 hitting stores from Scream.

Good to hear Scanners is coming out on Criterion. I'd like to see Shout Factory release The Hitcher starring Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas Howell. It needs to be remastered for HD!

Sony has The Hitcher.

But Universal has both The Hitcher II and The Hitcher remake.
One of the rare franchises where the movies are all great!

Did I miss something?

So far I understand there are only rumors and speculation that Criterion is releasing Scanners; nothing official has been announced yet. Also, as there has been no confirmation Criterion even has Scanners no release date "later this year" or any other time has been announced. IF Criterion has Scanners they have at times delayed releasing them so I wouldn't necessarily hold my breath (i.e. Y Tu Mama Tambien has been in limbo for years from Criterion).

In part the belief that Criterion has the rights to Scanners 1 is based on Scream's claim that they were outbid on Scanners 1 and fan speculation that Criterion is one of the vendors likely to spend more money on a movie. There's also a hint in one of Criterion's newsletters that includes a barcode. Criterion has tweeted pictures of David Cronenberg within the past year leading to further speculation but he is one of the directors Criterion has focused on in the past with recent re-releases so that's not definitive. In an interview Criterion Collection staff have confirmed that they have the rights to The Brood so some think there will be an "early Cronenberg" box set; which would be awesome but again is just based on guesswork so far.

The man in the fifth window up on the left is clearly a clue for Scanners - look at his outfit.

You're right that the clue doesn't necessarily mean that a release is imminent, but Scanners is coming from Criterion.
