Scream Factory Blu-ray Discussion Thread

Shouts lead of acquisitions is doing some great work. With the Golden Princess, Shaw Brothers, Blaxploitation, and now a Lionsgate deal. It also looks like they made a Kamen Rider deal with the new Twitch channel KamenRiderTV that’s advertising Zeztz. I hope it’s more than Zeztz and more than just streaming.

See I don't mind steelbooks (they aren't my first choice, but I don't mind them, but then again I'm not anal about dints and dings and scratches on cases, etc.) but I had site exclusive shit and that is all Lionsgate does now. I hate it and I hate them. (Hate them so much I'm happy instead of disappointed bout a Shout/Scream factory getting something I want.)

I don’t mind steelbooks either. I used to only buy them if it was a really nice edition or I liked the artwork, but usually I would choose the standard edition most of the time. What I hate is not being given an option and how some of these studios have just been releasing films on steelbooks only. I just want there to be more options. Give us a standard and a steelbook to choose from.

Did the channel say Shout did it? More likely discotek did it as they've done multiple Kamen Rider sets at this point (and have like 3 upcoming)

It says KamenRiderTV Official Channel from TokuSHOUTsu and ShoutTV. It’s Shout.

It may only be The Descent who knows. Neil Marshal confirmed it’s with Shout on Instagram.

I would find it very weird if it just that. I mean for Halloween it’s understandable. SF has a hard on for John Carpenter and the Halloween movies. But why would they go after the Descent and only the Descent. And why would Lionsgate only offer them just that 1 movie? Doesn’t make sense to me.

There’s also a KamenRider_ZEZTZ channel that is connected to Shout that use to be UltramanTV. I guess if THR, Variety, or Deadline has a story sometime this week detailing what is happening we will know more. The least it means is Toei trusts Shout.

I would love if it was more. Also maybe Neil Marshal himself wanted Shout to release it like all of the Oliver Stone movies they have been doing. I don’t know if Neil Marshal has that kind of say in who restores and releases his movies like Oliver Stone does. I wouldn’t think he would at least.

It’s possible it was a director request, but it’s still odd idk. Guess we have to wait and see if any other Lionsgate titles pop up from Scream Factory. I wonder how it would effect Lionsgate Limited as well.

I hope more Corman titles are coming. Loved Sawbones and Final Judgement and hope more 90s Corman titles get remastered. Some bootleg company just added terrible looking AI upscales of Suspect Device and Time Under Fire to streaming (surprised the estate hasn't filed copyright infringements notices for them).

Are those titles from the portion of the Corman library Shout lost access to? If so, it wouldn't shock me if the people who currently have the rights (Corman's kids?) are the ones supplying the films to the streaming service. Maybe they're trying to monetize their ownership of the limited catalog while they can.

As for the potential Lionsgate deal, I doubt the studio is interested anymore in licensing since they now have their own imprint and they'll need content to sell on it. There are two possibilities for that Descent post: 1) Marshall is probably mistaken, or 2) It's a one-off deal. The latter seems unlikely unless there's some weird rights issue with the film in the US.

EDIT: I was correct - Shout is NOT releasing The Descent. The Lionsgate insider has confirmed.
