It probably doesn't mean anything, but given their latest licensing deal with Universal, I'd probably skew in the other direction.

I haven't seen either of these two either. I never even heard of The Beast Within until last week which is kinda funny now that it is getting a Scream Factory release. Some girl I work with and I were discussing 80's horror and she could not remember the name of which I now know to be The beast Within. She described the plot to me and we ended up googling it and finding it. More Kinski is cool to go along with Schizoid

I feel like a few titles out of each list will be getting the Scream Factory treatment. Even though most are from other studios or are too "classiy" for an Indie label, I think there are some that either are in the process of becoming Scream Factory releases, or will sometime in the future.

Just my spidey-senses.

And I think if they wanted to get "The Sentinel" they most certainly could have. Universal, it seems, would not care to let it go any more than the Halloween films or Phantasm II. The question is DID THEY get it.

Given the other Universal titles they've licensed and in the absence of any hang-ups ala "Army of Darkness" or the "Child's Play" sequels, "The Sentinel" would seem to be theirs for the taking.

Exactly. And cross the Jaws films off the list too because I believe Cliff said Universal may be releasing at least the 2nd one sometime soon.

Which realistically leaves, other than overly culty films, which I would welcome anyway, only a few options. These seem most likely:

People Under The Stairs
Shocker
Village of the Damned
Sssssss
The Serpent and the Rainbow
The Sentinel
The Thing

and there are other lesser known films, or forgotten ones, that could still be contenders... But I would bet the Comic Con Announcements are pooled from the list above, assuming they are all Universal.

I still don't think Universal would be willing to part with The Thing, especially considering they won't part with Child's Play 3 or Army of Darkness.

Army of Darkness is going to make them money because of the new Evil Dead reboot.

Childs Play sequels are going to make them money because Curse of Chucky is coming out in October.

The Thing is just collecting dust over there, if they were interested in it they would have released it in their big 100th Anniversary wave last year. The Halloween sequels are better known than The Thing, but they parted with those.

So I think it makes perfect sense.

I think it has a good amount of sleaze in it. But I like it overall.

And its one of the films that Universal has re-released like 4 times. Im pretty sure they would let it go for a blu-ray from another company just to get it off their hands. They even called it, along with the Funhouse, one of their "signature horror classics" in an article. I dont know where they got that from. lol.

But I would scoop it up.

I've owned these for years now but never go around to watching them. Might as well wait until these hit Blu now. Considering all the titles Scream has turned down due to low DVD sales I'm really surprised they picked these up. They were only ever released on double feature DVDs which usually means they weren't high priority titles. Who knows though, maybe these double features sold like crazy, but then again how do you know which film people were buying these for? I would take the fun cheesiness of The Howling 2 or the creepiness of the Count Yorga series over these personally but either way, any Scream release is an instant purchase!

Yes, but you are forgetting The Thing's 2011 pre-make. I think a possible sequel to that would make Carpenter's version worth keeping. Also, despite being better kbown, I believe that The Thing draws a larger audience than Halloween 3, which I adore by the way.

What movies are you talking about? You don't mention any.

So far they have said that there are no immediate plans to make a sequel to The Thing (2011).

so, based off of what we know, I think they might give it up.

Although I am sure Cliff would've tried to get that one in the previous Universal deal, unless they were specifically shying away from movie having already been on Blu-Ray to launch the label with...
Even though Halloween II was released earlier, the deal was supposedly being made before the first release by Universal.

I still think its much more realistic than, say, Boy Who Cried Werewolf.

I wouldn't. Let's agree to disagree.

These three seem sure-fire to me:

Shocker
People under the Stairs
Serpent and the Rainbow

And possibly The Sentinel.

I would love Village of the Damned also. One of my favorites of John Carpenter.

And even though I suggested it was likely, myself, Cliff did say a while back that they were not interested in doing a release of Serpent and the Rainbow, even if they made a new deal with Universal, which we now know they did. Something that I can't wrap my head around.

The Beast Within had a standalone release on DVD.

Count Yorga's rights were bought from MGM before Shout's deal, so that was a no anyway. And Howling 2, imo is perfectly cheesy, and I hope they reconsider, but I doubt it. Im still glad someone's putting these movies out.

[Show spoiler]At least we're getting movies that aren't $50 limited edition steelbooks that will be sold out before any of us waste our money on it anyway. After being told there wont be a standard release and we're just going to have to deal with it. Then a few months later they release it anyway after some poor fool decides to pay 200 bucks online for some fanboy's extra copy, thinking its the only chance they will ever have to own an American release of said film. Then they have to mortgage their house and end up living on the streets addicted to heroin and claiming to be Sherlock Holme's nanny with Lucy Liu as a female Watson....

[Show spoiler]Yes, its my one and only post on the Synapse matter. Ugh.

Hmm, can't say I feel the same. It certainly would have been better without toothless Reeve and Alley - I just can't believe those were casting choices made by Carpenter and not studio BS.

I must say that I'm surprised that so many of you like Carpenter's Village of the Damned, as I have heard it considered to be one of his worst movies. I haven't seen it yet but might give it a watch tomorrow.
