Are Crawlspace and The Beast Within part of the collector's edition series? I'm really hoping that even if they're not that they have some good special features. Just imagine all the good/ crazy stories the director must have of Klaus Kinski.

That depends--The last time, MGM was selling it to everybody, and everybody wasn't interested.
For that matter, their Vincent Price Midnite Matinees of Masque, Pit and Dr. Phibes sold "average" compared to other "niche titles". That's why it's a niche.

And selling to Everybody isn't the sales scheme for Scream Factory, any more than trying to sell Melting Man, Halloween III, or the first Howling would be.
If you're a niche label, respect the power of what you can get away with that nobody else can.

Check out the classy new artwork for our upcoming Blu-ray set of THE VINCENT PRICE COLLECTION, illustrated by artist Joel Robinson.

The image on the left will be on the slipcase. The image on the right - with a clever “skull” reveal - will be on blu-ray case that will house the following films: Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunted Palace, The Masque of the Red Death, The Pit and the Pendulum, Witchfinder General (and its alternate U.S. version, The Conqueror Worm) and The Abominable Dr. Phibes. A 24-page booklet will also be included that will include original theatrical poster images.

The set is planned for Fall before Halloween. Look for more details on extras and exact street date later on this Summer.

This is the very definition of a classy cover. Not over the top at all. Just simple and holds him up to the godly stature that he is. This set will be great.

Yeah me too. I can watch most genres of horror films without being afraid but I find ghost tales in particular, if done well can still genuinely scare me and I've yet to see one thats told better then that.

Great movie and the score is so atmospheric. If you're a fan of the movie you should really give it a try. Have you seem the similar Ghost Story? While not as good as The Changeling, I do think it is quite good.

I like that Vincent Price collection cover art... good stuff.

On a different note... I wonder how it is that I have never seen or heard of Carpenter's Prince of Darkness before this thread? I like Carpenter and like Vampire movies (ok, except for things like Twilight and some other recent oddities).

I looked it up because it sounded familiar. I don't recall seeing the movie but I have read the book by Peter Straub of the same name. Thanks for the recommendation though. I will look out for it when I'm next in the mood for a good scare.

So I just got done watching The Howling 2, I am not going to lie...I enjoyed it. Best line hands down is Booooooooooooo.....Hi Honey. LOL. Sure it is bad but really not THAT bad...compare it to some of the films of Bruno Mattei and it's a piece of art. Definitely entertaining! Definitely some pretty awesome moments too!

Prince of Darkness isn't a vampire movie -- if that's a connection you were making there

Incidentally is Ghost Story also a Warner Bros. title and if not would Scream Factory consider that as a potential BD release? I'm going to lobby for them to release more awesome ghost horror movies like Dead End (2003), Carnival of Souls (1962) and The Legend of Hell House (1973).

GHOST STORY ('81) is Universal

Very flawed but interesting film. So much of it ended up on the cutting room floor including most of Dick Smith's amazing-looking make-up effects.

There's a great Cinemafantastique article on the making of the film that included photos of his work, most of which was shot but not used in the film. They also shot multiple endings and had loads of unused footage, to the degree where Peter Straub (the author of the novel, which was phenomenal) said he went to the premiere of the picture and asked the screenwriter (Lawrence D. Cohen) "what happened?" Among numerous other sequences, an entire re-shot ending that's described in that article is nowhere to be found on-screen! (to say nothing of the first ending, which they didn't use either)

I don't know if that footage exists anywhere, but there's a great movie buried somewhere in GHOST STORY but only portions of it show up on-screen in the finished version. You almost wonder if there's a preview version or something in the Universal vaults that could be dusted off.

It's also an amazing book that would lend itself to being a multi-part TV mini-series...trying to condense it all into a feature was a tough task. Still, it has fantastic Jack Cardiff cinematography, a fine Philippe Sarde score and a fascinating -- if not always well utilized -- cast. Plus some truly haunting moments in it.

I believe Dead End is Lionsgate.

Carnival of Souls is PD, except for the Alternate Cut.

But I hope Lionsgate does something with their catalog.

If you sell it... they will come.

FYI
House of Wax (1953) 3D Blu-ray is coming from Warner on Oct. 1st.
It will also include Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933)

They also are doing The Exorcist 40th Anniversary Edition later this year.

I've been wanting to see Ghost Story! :-) I do believe Dick Smith did the special effects for that one.

Universal owns it, so I guess it is possible. Ghost Story is a very eerie film.
One of the best, well... Ghost Stories.

Again, past sales should NOT be used as a gauge for interest in a reissue if plans for the reissue are big. Perhaps Howling II didn't sell well on DVD the first time because, well, it was a crappy, no-frills release that had horrible artwork. People today are much more sophisticated and want the best, even for presumed "bad sellers". Give people a top-quality release in every department and they will come. Just like the saying goes
