Someone is overstating the case because that Studio Canal BD is actually very good and blows apart the DVD. Well worth importing -- but only if you've got a region B capable player.

IMO that Studio Canal BD of THE FOG isn't a very good transfer at all. There's a different master that Sony prepared and runs on both HDNet and Sony Movie Channel that is far better with more detail and less washed out colors (it has a Columbia logo that runs before the film; no idea why, unless they took over some TV rights for it when they produced the lousy remake a few years back).

A Blu-Ray of that master would be exponentially better than the import BD, which has a noticeable amount of DNR on it.

EDIT - That print doesn't air on MGM HD -- I made an error. It's popped up on both HDNet Movies and Sony Movie Channel

Fair enough, but presentation wise it's better than the DVD version. Sony owns Columbia Pictures so that should explain why the name comes up on their respective properties.

Have a feeling Twilight Time gets "The Fog", I know they have "Christine".

I think Universal has a lot of movies in-house that would be right up Shout's alley -- no idea how feasible these would be but, since Cliff is here, I'll do my best sales pitch:

GHOST STORY - underrated film of Peter Straub's great book, something of a troubled shoot with a lot of cut footage likely lying around (if it still exists however). The theatrical cut is worth seeing. As we mentioned before, the Cinefantastique article from a few years back has detailed, comprehensive info on the production, re-editing of the film. Some of Dick Smith's best make up effects hit the cutting room floor (along with several different endings apparently)

CAT PEOPLE - Worth seeing in HD. Universal's TV version had a few deleted scenes put back into it too.

THE CAR - Good '70s fun!

JAWS 2 - If Universal doesn't do this one themselves, I'd be all over it...plus a 3-D version of JAWS 3-D (hell how about a JAWS SEQUELS box!!)

FIRESTARTER - not bad

PSYCHO II/III - Nice double feature potential

I'll gladly gobble up whatever Scream's got going...too bad Warners won't let the door swing open because EXORCIST III would be fantastic

Disappointing to hear about "Christine". Scream Factory would have done wonders with that flick. Still keeping hope that "The Fog" may be the first 2013 title announced. If not, then my guess is for "The Town That Dreaded Sundown".

Sure, it's still better than DVD, just not as good as the Sony master. Speaking of which:

Columbia/Sony had nothing to do with the 1980 FOG -- it's owned by MGM in the US, so I don't quite understand why Sony had their own HD master produced of the film that airs on Sony Movie Channel and HDNet (with the Columbia logo running before the picture). Must have taken over some distribution of it, perhaps, when the remake (which Sony DID produce) came out? That's what I meant when I said it was strange, because it's an MGM owned property in the U.S.

If they have The Fog, that sucks. I'd much rather that goes to Scream. Also, Christine had Special features. I'm going to pissed if TT releases it and we lose those.

THE FOG (1980) is MGM, TT is only doing Fox and Sony titles at the moment.

The company that independently released the film was called AVCO/Embassy. Television producer Norman Lear bought that company and merged with his own T.A.T Communications company. Later, the TV rights would fall under Columbia. That may be more to why you see it on the HD broadcasts.

Indeed, as well as a new title being announced every Friday for the next few months. Certainly an amazing time to be a cult / horror flick collector!

I'd wonder if writer Tom Holland would be up to doing an interview? Psycho II is so underrated and shockingly good. You'd think a sequel to Psycho would be a complete turkey, but its surprising...they actually made a sequel that holds its own. I'd be ecstatic to see a Psycho II blu-ray from scream factory.

Me too.

If the new license is with MGM, I would love to have 'The Howling' of course but, I would buy 'Howling II' on Blu in a heart beat. Christopher Lee and Sybil Danning alone would be enough for a Blu-ray.

I'm sure he would be since he gave lengthy interviews for "The Psycho Legacy" documentary which was very well done. Interestingly enough, Shout Factory was responsible for distributing it.

I was thinking Exorcist III last night, such a shame Warner have the distribution rights. Wish they'd hurry up and release a blu the dvd is showing its age big time.

What about 1988's The Blob?

I would second both of those, and add this one too:

In fact, I could see Criterion doing a blu-ray on this one.
