I don't think you have ever commented on Roller Coaster (1977).

So Cliff, are you a fan, would you ever like to release it?

As Ms .45 has pretty much been denied a release, how about some other Ferrara titles such as The Addiction or Driller Killer?

Ken Russell's Crimes of Passion and The Lair of the White Worm would also be two great titles for the Scream Factory treatment.

Absent from the forthcoming Vincent Price collection, I'd also love to see Madhouse get a BD release.

And for my final choice for the 'super six' I'm going to opt for Cronenberg's Shivers.

Wasn't there a thought that Shivers would be part of a Criterion Cronenberg box set of 4 movies? Or was that shot down at some point? (I know Scanners and The Brood are expected...I think)

I'm not sure.

I've heard rumours of The Brood and Scanners from them, but nothing about Shivers (or Rabid - which would be another great title to have on BD).

No, not really. I grew up in the time of Sensurround, but never saw one in the theatre.... Though I do remember seeing the added speakers in a theatre right before they opened Battlestar Galactica.

After watching Terror in the Aisles (1984) earlier today, it got me thinking about some Scream! Factory BD/DVD releases I'd like to see. Not all of these are possible, of course...

Alone in the Dark (1982) - being a New Line title, this one is probably with Warner, so, no

Cat People (1982) - Universal, so, maybe?

Nighthawks (1981) - Universal, maybe?

Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) - Sony/Columbia TriStar, no

Ms. 45 (1981) - NO!!!

When a Stranger Calls (1979) - Sony/Columbia TriStar, no

Jaws 2 (1978) - Universal, maybe? But, Universal may release themselves?

The Car (1977) - Universal, maybe?

Suspiria (1977) - Hell no!

Carrie (1976) - MGM, maybe a possibility? But with the remake coming, maybe not

Play Misty for Me (1971) - Universal, maybe?

Don’t Look Now (1973) - Paramount, no

And....don't hate, but what about a definitive edition of Showgirls (1995)? MGM's got it, so it might be a possibility. If Scream released it, I bet we could actually get some extras that pertained to the film like a commentary with Paul Verhoeven, Elizabeth Berkley, and Gina Gershon, a making of documentary, etc., you know, all of the things MGM would never give us.

This has already been touched upon, but Nighthawks is a terrific film!

In terms of "left-field announcements", I'm predicting anything from the Vestron library that Lionsgate may have lost the rights to. I remember Cliff saying he'd like to release CHOPPING MALL. I would like to see Blu-rays of THE UNHOLY and RADIOACTIVE DREAMS. Fright Night II would be awesome.

I'll highly recommend again for a release of "They Call Her One Eye". The U.S. American International Pictures edit of Thriller: A Cruel Picture. It's never been available on home video in this form and runs around 82 minutes.

Here is a cool radio spot that really sells the films exploitation nature. It just sounds so evil in this ad, and is when marketing was pretty fun.

Also other exclusive A.I.P. versions of films like Black Sabbath and Black Sunday would be a welcome release. But "They Call Her One Eye" is my #1 want at the moment since that version is so obscure today.

I agree, and if they ever acquire the rights to the film. The original music soundtrack must be restored. And the uncut/preview version should be released alongside the theatrical cut. Plenty of graphic violence was trimmed to avoid an X rating and also possibly trimmed based on negative audience responses to the initial print tested.

Doesn't Synapse own the rights to this one?

I know they've previously released two cuts on DVD

Thriller: A Cruel Picture

Thriller: They Call Her One Eye

I have the first DVD, which is the full uncut version. The second one is the edited version.

In the Mouth of Madness is with Warner, so it's a no go with Scream. Savage Streets is with Code Red. I thought I heard Studio Canal had Trick or Treat, which means it's likely with Lionsgate, in which case it won't happen with Scream Factory.

I still say Scream Factory needs to work Echo Bridge into submission and nab Curtains from them. Simply don't take no for an answer!

  1. Directed by Bob Clark, of Black Christmas, A Christmas Story and Porky's fame. Also Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things.
  2. Tom Savini's film debut (makeup / effects).
  3. Written by Alan Ornsby, screenplay writer / Initial Director for Popcorn and Writer / Director for Deranged, Actor / co-writer for Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. He was also involved in the makeup / effects for this film as well as CSPwDT and Deranged.
  4. John Marley was probably best known as Jack Woltz, the film producer that had a rude awakening in The Godfather, which came out a few months prior to this film.

It's not the gorefest that later Savini films would be, but it's not as tame as it's PG rating (even for a pre-PG-13 film) might have you think initially. It's a shame that Bob Clark and Alan Ornsby didn't make more of a career for themselves in horror. I can't speak for Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (never saw it), but their work in Deathdream, Black Christmas and Deranged is extremely impressive, especially considering that they were apparently very early in their respective careers (Clark has a handful of credits prior to this, and this was apparently Ornsby's debut in any capacity). Had they continued on this path, we might be looking at them in a similar light to how we view Carpenter or Craven.
Aw man are you missing out with Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, its great!
Guess I can't say a whole lot though cause I still havent seen Deathdream.

If you're region-free, the Arrow BDs of these two (along with Baron Blood) include both the Italian/English-dubbed and AIP versions.

I saw Deathdream on DVD and, while it had its share of interesting moments, didn't care for it all that much. My detailed thoughts as taken from a 2005 write-up I had given the film on a now-defunct Yahoo group (possible SPOILERS):
Quote:
DEATHDREAM aka DEAD OF NIGHT - Bob Clark

Shock horror film taking inspiration from The Monkey's Paw. The parents of Andy, a soldier sent to Vietnam, get news of their son's death, only to find him apparently hale and at their doorstep. But something has changed about Andy, who seems perpetually lost and unresponsive...and then the murders start happening with Andy as a zombie-vampire who draws blood from his victims to keep off his own decay.

Deathdream is a reasonably interesting movie. It starts off on a slow note (the pre-credits prologue in Vietnam is nicely done, though) and initially appears somewhat clumsy and melodramatic (with crappy violin music playing to indicate the sadness in the family etc.), but near halfway picks its pace and your interest. The story has some interesting dramatic aspects like the effect on Andy's family by his appearance and subsequent happenings eventually leading to their psychological breakdown, and references to the horrors of Vietnam. One thing that the film misses IMO is giving an insight into the thought process of Andy in his new avatar. Too much time is spent on empty shots of Andy rocking listless on a chair or glaring in an alleged diabolic mode, which has been done in several other horror films and has lost its impact.

The acting at first appears a bit over done and TV soap-like but in later parts fits well with the events of the story. Lynn Carlin as Andy's biased and blindly protective mother and John Marley as his estranged father are especially good. Richard Backus who plays Andy is initially dull but later does reasonably alright as the zombie-vampire; he is no Martin, though. DD has excellent makeup and gore FX courtesy the pasha of horror make-up Tom Savini

Popcorn has something preventing a release. Frogtown is Image. Best Friend is with New Line. Not sure about the rest.
