Just in the last few months, LG released an '8 movie pack' titled Horror Collection on dvd. The titles included are Chopping Mall, Slaughter High, The Unholy, Waxwork, etc. This would seem to indicate that LG still holds the rights.

Universal owns Sleepaway Camp and MGM also has the rights to the 3rd one.

I agree that it "seems to indicate they still have the rights". But that release also smacks of a last-ditch attempt to squeeze a little more cash out of a group of titles they may be losing the rights to. We'll find out on Friday

No, I meant a 2-Disc DVD version of the 25th AE. It's because that awesome release is on Blu but not on DVD and would be enough to throw away all my other EDII DVD releases (less you're a completist). I have the US Blu-ray but think it's unfair that a DVD version of it wasn't released (the Lionsgate DVD was only a port of the BOTD edition).

BTW, finally got my H2 & H3 copies and I'm so in love with them.
Thank you so much Cliff, can't wait for Terror Train and Funhouse.

Any idea when we might hear the first Phantasm 2 news?
Sony has the rights to the first film. MGM has the second film, I believe.

You're welcome... glad you like them.

It will be awhile before news on PHANTASM II will be released.

This would be great! The first film never even received a widescreen release in the US. Which is a shame, because there is a stacked Canadian DVD out there, so there are extra features / deleted scenes available.

This would be amazing as well! Chopping Mall is one of my favorites. Another one that has never received a widescreen release. It would go well with their Corman library too.

I would love to get a Blu-ray release of 'Killer Fish' (1979) starring Lee Majors and Karen Black. I have no idea who owns that now.

Yup, MGM does in fact have the second one. Artisan previously released the third one. Not sure if they still own it though.

The more time we don't hear about "Phantasm II" just tells us your cooking up something very special for this one. Can't wait to see what you guys officially do with the flick. Cliff, how pleased do you think most fans will be with tomorrow's announcement? Can't wait to hear about it!

I wasn't sure if this thread has combined any discussion, if it included non-horror titles or not, since Shout! has also recently released other licensed titles, or if the discussion taking place in the Scream Factory thread meant it includes all or mostly horror/thriller type titles only.
i hope TT isnt getting christine. 35 dollars is way too much for a blu ray. i would much rather get a bunch of extras and pay 10-15 dollars less for my favorite killer car movie.

So, this is an easy release now that it already exists in HD. Consider that.

So, I'll put in a vote for the Sleepaway Camp trilogy. I would settle for part 2 as it's my favorite on by far... Part 3 is very weak and sleaze city. I might buy part 1 and would definitely buy part 2 on release day.
I was actually checking out MGM's official website, and they show Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3 as titles in their horror section. There's some others that are pretty interesting, as well--Creature (1985), Night of the Demons (1988), Witchboard (1987). The site also shows Phantasm (1979), which is really strange. Maybe they have VOD rights, or something...

One movie I'd like to see someone, anyone, release is Tarantula (1955). Universal finally released it in their Vault Series, but it is a DVD-R and I just can't bring myself to purchase it. I remember watching this back in the 60's and it scared me big time as a kid! I think it may be one of the reasons I have a slight phobia about spiders!

"Creature" will hopefully see the light of day before too long...

Not really. Phantasm was part of the Avco Embassy library. I nearly bought the MGM DVD before Anchor Bay announced their own release.

They also had Phantasm IV for a while.

I'm just gonna guess the new licensing deal has something to do with Lionsgate and not MGM.

Check in with us tomorrow where we'll actually announce TWO titles that are a part of our new deal.

The only hints we'll give: Both are from the 80s. One has been released before (but not before in widescreen) and the other has never been out on DVD before.
Scream factory announcement... Maybe the one not in widescreen could be Fright night Part II? Just a guess?

Holy shit, maybe it is Lionsgate. The part about the one title only receiving a full screen dvd really throws a wrench in my MGM guess--since I can only think of one horror title from the '80s that MGM released as a full screen dvd (I, Madman). But LG has put out a boatload of full screen dvds!

The best way to figure out who owns the rights to a film is to release it on DVD or BluRay and wait for the letter from a lawyer. Works everytime
