Hmmmm.
Is it possible Cliff (Scream) has nothing to do with it but someone else at Shout Factory is involved. Technically speaking Cliff would be correct then as he and Scream have nothing to do with it but Shout Factory could.

its already been said that listings for any shout factory title on an amazon that isnt us will be removed eventually and the smaller online stores are also not allowed to sell them either

Sorry but we have some unfortunate news to report about our upcoming Collector's Editions of PSYCHO II & III.

It was always our original intention to have new art commissioned for both (which would be consistent with our other "Collector's Edition" releases) but the studio asked to go with the original theatrical poster artwork on these films instead. As much as this decision disappoints, we respect it and are still pleased that the original art will still be represented, but this time front and center. We hope you will be too.

For those curious, a slipcase will still be on the releases like our other Collector's Editions. Be on the lookout soon for the finalized specs and artwork within the next couple of months. Street date is 9/24. Thanks for understanding.
Personally, this is no biggie for me. I love the poster art for both of those.

Strange, some unknown distributor is releasing "VHS Retro Style DVDs" of cult classics! They are region-free DVD-Rs going for around $13 each.
These include:
-Just Before Dawn
-Kingdom of the Spiders
-Chopping Mall
-Popcorn
-Alice, Sweet Alice
-Blood Beach
-Patrick
-Pieces
and several more!
Was this known before?

The strange thing is, the rest of my order with amazon.com is fine : Idle Hands, Creepshow 2, Mouth of Madness....

Amazon.ca doesn't have these titles available for pre-order yet. It has also been my experience that Amazon.com usually sells them for less.

Too true.if scream/shout have been forced to do this i bet they're gutted.they must shift alot of units internationally.could see this seriously affecting their profit margins.which in turn may affect future releases i.e. how much they would pay for licenses.

Technically, by what you typed, Amazon is doing exactly what they said they are doing: ONLY shipping to the US.

???

What I quoted and what I'm saying are exactly the same.

Cliff said (as does the Scream Website) that they have North american rights and Scream itself ships to Canada and the U.S.

Amazon say that they will only ship to the U.S. That exactly what I quoted and exactly what I typed.

That's the problem...it doesn't make sense. If Scream has (by their own account) rights for both the U.S. and Canada, then it makes no sense that amazon won't ship outside of the U.S.

That's what I said in my first post.

Clearly, something is wrong and that calls this whole thing into question. If Scream can legally ship it's own product to Canada and (based on Cliff's comments) it has not instructed amazon to restrict shipping, something is amiss. How did amazon decide not to ship to a place that is legally entitled to receive the product?

It just doesn't add up.

I can't believe there's any legal requirement for thm to restrict sales outside North America. What the hell is region-coding for? Has some new law has been passed or have I been importing discs illegally for the last 20 years?

If this seriously is Shout's policy then they can shove it. I guess I'll jump through hoops and pay extra for a select few discs but there'll be no more blind-buys or double-dips for me from now on.

I'm hardly surprised the disc-retail business is going down the tubes with this kind of draconian policy. In the UK we just keep getting hit by bad news: decent importers like planetaxel going bust, import duty levels getting tightened, the guernsey loophole being closed with the subsequent loss of several good retailers and the related rise in prices due to an absence of competition.

What's most worrying is whether all the other companies are going to start following suit. What if we couldn't import Criterions? Or WB product (as they don't seem to be much interested in the UK). This is seriously crappy news.

cmac, if this is true, I hope you'll report back the storm of disgust you're about to weather.

I would agree that the whole mess about Amazon.com not shipping to Canada is messed up and doesn't make sense. However, if multiple retailers (another poster has stated similar statements from ImportCds), that have no relation to one another, are pointing to specific instructions received from SF then I'd say that's where the blame may lie.

Region coding only slows the flow of goods between regions it isn't meant to enforce rights. Look at Europe for example, all of the European countries are in one Region but it's not uncommon for different studios to have the rights, or licenses, to a film in different European countries. So, Studio A may have the rights (license) to release a film in Germany, Studio B has the rights (license) to release the film in the UK, Studio C in Italy, etc.; all of which are in Region B.

The annoying thing about Amazon is that they allow numerous sales of illegal copied versions of movies to be sold but then they crack down on this.

I don't think getting mad at Shout does anything or is fair..obviously they rode it out as long as they could as far as selling outside the US or North America (whichever will be clarified I would imagine) when they had deals.

Also, obviously they don't want to lose sales so not like they want this. I want them to stay in business and I'm sure you do too so if thats the deal thats the deal. If they piss off the companies that have the movies they will never get rights to anything so they do what they have to do. Find other ways if you can to buy them there is always a way not to mention Second Sight has similar titles and in some cases the same.

you do know that they have separate releases in Canada with Canadian ratings on the back and are sold in-store in CANADA! so, you obviously missed my point.

Stores in Canada sell them too, so it would only make sense that Amazon.ca also would continue selling them.

Granted, just because it makes sense, doesn't mean it is so.

Do you see a problem?

If you're Canadian, you do. Canada is part of North America (actually we're MOST of North America ).

In your first post, you said: "only ships to the US", but then you later say North America. Again, you are mixing the two together. If Amazon only ships(SF product) to the US, then they are correct. You quote it as the US, then later say North America. That's all I was trying to point out.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you(and everyone else) that something doesn't seem right here. Hopefully Cliff can add his 2cents worth here.

Best Buy US has free shipping, I think Canadian BB does too, so you could order from them, keep your shipping cost and make it about even. And BB US tends to be cheaper too, around 20 bucks or less if you preorder. They have sales a lot too...

The funny thing with BBY is that BBY US will only ship within the US, BBY CA only within CA, and BBY MX only within Mexico.
