I think they are being cocky, no quotations around it, but do they not have the right to be? They are the best in the business and at some point you get cocky, when you are on top. Any other studio would love to get their hands on any of the Poltergeist III, or Psycho 4, or Serpent and the Rainbow, or Prom Night II. All of which were turned down because "they don't like them", or at least that was the reason given. [Show spoiler] Anything could change and they go back and pick these up, and in no way am I being ignorant. And when did I ever specifically say that these were the movies I wanted? I'm very thankful for all of their releases. As I stated in my original post... I wouldn't trade Scream Factory for the world. |

Serpent and the Rainbow was turned down? It's sort of a relief, personally, to know this - I think there are better films that Shout could license. Come to think of it, People Under the Stairs wasn't so hot either IMO. Did Universal jump on the slasher bandwagon back in the day or is DEATH VALLEY the only one?

I think they'd have a heck of a time creating extras for Poltergeist III. Gary Sherman still adamantly claims (i.e. lies) that the original ending was never shot, yet a slew of people involved with the film say that it was. So many involved seem to have tight lips about it, but throw a few bucks toward Lara Flynn Boyle and I'm sure she'll open up for another injection into hers.

A lot of arguments can be made like why this title vs. this title, but at the end of the day, it's all up to "Scream" to say yes or no and also rights availability comes into play. Now me, I love "The Howling" but boy would I kill for a "Howling II" special edition release, but I can see where or why "Scream" might say no. |

Tons. The film finished filming in June of '87, was rated PG by the MPAA in November of that year, then the ending was reshot in March of '88, more than a month after O'Rourke died in February. MGM supposedly rejected the original ending for having bad effects and essentially being dissatisfying, so they had made plans to reshoot it before O'Rourke died. There are pictures out there of Kane's cracking face from the original ending, Sherman admits (with a bit of a PR spin) to a new ending in the July '88 issue of Cinefantastique, people who saw rough cut screenings claim the original ending was included, and it's rumored that the ending exists within one of the approx. 100 boxes of footage MGM has of the film in their vaults. The reshoot was so rushed and cheap that the actor who played Scott wasn't asked back and only found out about the new ending at the premiere.

All this talk of Poltergeist III and original endings has piqued my interest, on top of my high interest over the making of the film, the sadness of O'Rourke's passing, this is the stuff of legend and why I'm a big film buff. It would all make for a fascinating special edition if it ever came to pass.

To be fair, though, that conversation was early in the year, back when the deal they had with Universal was only for Halloween II and III, The Funhouse, They Live and Phantasm II. If you asked them then if Prince Of Darkness was coming out soon, Cliff would have said no. With the new Universal deal in place, it's certainly plausible that The Serpent and the Rainbow is a potential release.

Lol. Who cares that they want to release a couple titles from franchises and not others. Would anyone ahead a tear if they passed on Halloween: Resurrection if it was a possibility, even though they released Halloween II and III. I hardly think that's worth complaining about. Plus you never know, once they're huge, they may come back and give these crappy titles some of you are so desperate for a decent a release.
