post not directed at you but I'm quite shocked that anybody here welcomes releases from Twilight-- I must have read about 5000 posts from people saying that they wait for movies to be 10 bucks or less... who are these people that are willing to pay $35 for a catalog blu ray??????????????????????? |

I'm almost certain Universal will never license THE THING. But if they decide to reissue it in one of those cool steelbooks with the original doc intact and maybe a couple of new featurettes, I'll bite. As for Pumpkinhead, it's a popular title so it has to resurface on Blu eventually. I have a feeling Arrow might grab it. Rumor has it they also acquired the '78 Body Snatchers - a definite purchase from me. Arrow and Shout seem to be going head to head with MGM, with one label licensing a title the other has no interest in. For those of us with region-free players it's a win-win situation. |

cmac - am I correct in assuming you guys won't be doing Blacula? I know it's MGM, who does license things out, but I also recall you saying no blaxploitation films...but maybe you could just *consider* a double feature with Scream Blacula Scream ala the Scanners 2-pack?
Pretty please with sugar on top? Last edited by benricci; 06-24-2013 at 12:52 PM. |

Besides the price my only real beef with Twilight Time is the 3000 limit. Thats's fine with classic titles and what not as they seem to take a while to sell out so if you don't get it thats more on you than them but for titles like Fright Night, Christine, etc they really should do at least 5000 or more if they want to limit it.

TT is certainly not predicting how well a movie will sell. Philadelphia, Christine and Fright Night are all BD's I'd love to own but 3000 sold out long before the release date. For those slightly bigger titles, at least 20,000 would do.

I haven't had any issues getting a Twilight Time release, but I do see the buying window for more high demand titles getting shorter and shorter. They're already advertising The Blob, and I could only imagine how short of a window Pumpkinhead or Candyman would get.

I'd blow my entire wad -- $200? $300? -- and walk out with three or four titles. If I want a movie, I actually want it -- this whole blu-ray thing isn't just a hobby to pass the time or a way to get a predatory thrill from bargain hunting. That doesn't mean I'm willing to spend whatever it takes on any title. But if it's one I want, and Twilight Time gets it, I'll pay the $30 and shut up. Because you know what? They generally do good work. And it beats no release at all. Nickel and diming, poor packaging, few extras, slip covers, no new super-duper 7.1 remix... I reserve my whining for shoddy PQ*. Saves time and energy. * And meta-whining. Last edited by balthazar_bee; 06-24-2013 at 02:05 PM. |

Balthazar, I agree. Although we can't just blindly spend a high amount on a movie, there is a thing as being a fan and paying what they ask to get something you love. I never buy movies with my wallet. If it happens to be on sale, great. If it's something that I am not sure of, then I'll wait for a sale. If it's something I want, I'm there wanting to own it day one.
Just saw the post that Philadelphia isn't sold out. That's awesome to hear, I'm actually going to go order it now because I just figured it sold out like Christine did. Thank you so much for the heads up! |

Yeah I know it was the deal it's just that it's a bad one.lol. How many more years do you think there will be physical media? I wouldn't bet on some of these having any edition later on in a physical form.

Sure it will be around but the major players are already showing a disinterest in releasing many titles that were once considered important...just don't count on all these limited titles coming back in some form is all I'm saying.

Also, Shout and Arrow can license the same titles from MGM with no problems--since they only get the rights in their respective countries. (Lifeforce is one that's already been announced by both.) |

Yes, I have that MGM Blu - not one of my most-prized possessions as it left a lot to be desired. Planning on picking up the Arrow Blu even if they use the same transfer because I'm a packaging/cover art nut. I'm sure Arrow will come up with a better-looking package plus it's almost a given that there will be new extras. |

To everyone that is afraid of TT getting Pumpkinhead, I must say that there is a strong possibility that MGM will release it this October. There were six CE DVDs from MGM of horror titles. Four blus were released right off the bat: Child's Play, ROTLD, Last House on the Left, Body Snatchers '78. One was released last year: TCM 2. This leads me to believe that they'll release it this year. Or next.
