No one is disagreeing with the cinematographer. It's just a very mediocre telecine. Yawn.

I already find it great on screencaps, I'm sure it will be even better in motion!

It's notorious Studio Canal always messed with this movie transfer! To a point it became ridiculous, even on DVD (http://dorian.gray.free.fr/phpBB2/vi...&highlight=fog)... as if they wanted it to look like Saturday Night Fever

It seems to me you did a terrific job!!!!

The way The Fog on the new Scream Factory Blu-ray looks whether you like it or not IS the way the Cinematographer himself wants you to see it! So it IS perfect!

I just checked out the dvdbeaver site and the Scream Factory release of The Fog looks way better than the studio canal version! The studio canal version looks more saturated!

That makes no sense at all.If some guy who made the paints that an artist used to paint a masterpiece decides 30+ yrs later to change how the painting looks by changing the tones of colours, well that would have the art world up in arms.Screams edition of the fog might look great but it is a Carpenter film not a cundey film. The cinematographers job is to bring the directors vision of a film to fruition(Aliens is a great example of what happens when a cinematographer thinks differently). As you can tell im not a fan of this new trend of revisionism in film.

If Cundy had been invited to supervise the video transfer from the start, the film would have looked like our version. He told me this during the transfer.
It's the look that was always intended. It was always too bright.

Whos complaining too much?.I and a handful of other posters said it looks abit dark, hows that complaining too much.Honestly its getting out of hand in this thread now with people who get on one anytime someone may question SF in even the most casual way like this. Were not happy clappy fanboys are we?,were buyers of product.Ive spent 100s on scream releases(because on importcds i use paypal, ive already paid for the fog) that gives me or whoever the right to question anything anyhow.A few days ago a poster in this thread dared to mention on a Blu-ray site that he might of wanted a dvd set on Blu.this was met by crazy amount of anger and vitriol by another poster that was totally uncalled for,and yet amazingly everyone(except the mods)agreed with him.I love scream,do no wrong in any significant way in my book but that does not mean me,or anyone else should noty be alble to say whatever we like, good or bad.
No doubt someone will now get overly angry at my support of free speech.

It's not the way it was intended ,its Cundeys prefference.Carpenter must not of wanted to invite him to supervise then..It was a classic for 30 years Cliff and it looked great.ive bought it though

Most directors and DPs are never invited to the home video transfer... especially not in the 80s.
I'm sure John Carpenter was never invited either.

Cliff, would you say The Fog is/will be your all around best release so far? If not, what is?

Its not the way its intended? You know of other peoples intentions on things? Color timing, shading and many other tweaks happen a lot more then most people think in films when being transfered for the home markets. Lets hold off final judgment till we see the finished product.

If I recall correctly, they are very happy with Halloween 3, Phantasm 2, and They Live.

The color timing looks good to me. I've also pre-ordered I do wish it was a higher quality telecine. There are plenty of examples of low budget 80s movies which received much better transfers. Take a look at Videodrome for example: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Video...Blu-ray/11306/

Scream's release of The Fog is significantly better than Optimum's. Having said that, it barely resembles a 35mm film.

I know if its the version weve all known for over 30 yrs.If anyone should change it it should be The director-i don't see how anyone could disagree with that.My inital post on the subject was-it looks abit dark but ill reserve judgement until i see it.so i think that is exactly holding off as you say.My intention is not to rubbish this release, not at all,not my style.as i said ive already paid for it.if it looks great then i will say it looks great,im sure it will,Cundey is a legend to me,i just think if films are going to be changed(don.t think they should years later, maybe for initial home release)then it should'nt be done by anyone other than the director, again not an unreasonable stance i think.

100% true, but if they were to be changed i still think it should be under the supervision of Rick Rosenthal and Tommy lee Wallace, but just clean them up and make them look better than they ever have without any changes, fortunatly scream did.H3 is for me how all horror blus should be treated.
