This title came out in May when the 2014 remake/sequel was shooting or about to start shooting in Shreveport and Texarkana this May and June. So if Scream could get the rights to a movie that had an active remake in production, with a popular producer attached like Ryan Murphy, why couldn't they get Sleepaway Camp rights with no active remake being produced.
[Show spoiler]But they announced Town earlier in 2012, and Shout probably had started plans for the deal to pick it up before they decided to remake it.
So, when everyone was excited that Shout was doing the blu-ray, MGM realized it was a classic with many fans and went ahead with the remake.

I don't know that for sure, but I've heard others suggest it, and that sounds like a plausible timeline, as we know from the fact that deals do take some time to finalize.

Granted, I can't see why they would want to hang onto Sleepaway Camp, I get that they might not...

Especially considering it was Universal who also declined to give them The Thing, which was just recently remade. So, I would think they'd like to cash in on a newer film.

Assuming Universal even has it...

OT: Last night I went to an Advanced Screening of "The Conjuring" and all I can say is WOW... this is easily one of the best horror films to come out in the last 30 years. I can't remember the last time I was so tense watching a movie.

Do not miss this one in the theater!!

Ones I'm hoping for:
Death Becomes Her
Sssssss
The People Under the Stairs
The House of the Long Shadows
The Sentinel

1. They're all Universal releases (well except House of) and 2. They haven't gotten a certified cmac 'No', at least as of yet lol. But I've requested the first two on the Facebook page a couple times, and never got a response and they're on the Big 'No' List so who knows.

Others I could see happening:
Village of the Damned
Shocker (although didn't this one get a 'no' a short while back?)
Phantom of the Paradise (another 'no' before?)

As for Curtains...Man, I'd die if that one actually happened...so maybe better not release that one after all!

GHOSTS OF MARS, anyone? Has this been asked about? I know it has been released but not a good quality one.

Well, for it to be good quality John Carpenter needs to reshoot the whole thing!

Awwwww...not really requesting. Just curious if it has been mentioned.

And yes, I will admit, this movie is kind of bad, but for some reason I enjoy it every time I watch it. So in end, I guess I don't think it's that bad

To date, Scream Factory hasn't gotten any Sony titles. Ghosts of Mars is probably pretty low on the priority list for any number of reasons.

I came into that movie a little late. For some reason (I am 33), I missed this title until a few years back and it just didn't have the payoff for me. I like the people involved and the setup/atmosphere, but overall I just didn't care for it in the end. I mean, it's good late night horror/////same as GHOSTS OF MARS, but I was not a huge fan.

I love Carpenter and hate Ghosts of Mars. Absolutely awful. Can't see how anyone compares it favorably to The Fog unless they are, as you implied, impaired. Seriously. lol.

I thaough it was ok, I though the Ice Cube blackspoitation version of Snake Pliskin in space vs space zombies did not work, and I realy dont enjoy Ice cube as a leading action star, dont get me wrong he is a talented actor, but in my opion he is good in suporting roles like Three Kings or Rampage, but here and xXx 2, I just dont buy him as an action hero. In reality , he probably was the reason Screen Gems finaced the movie, But I would rather have Jason Statham as the Ice Cube character. But this is just my opinion and doesnt make it the norm. And bettter than The Fog, the first 10 minutes of The Fog alone are better than the whole 90 mins of Ghost Of Mars.

Maybe I should give THE FOG another chance..but for now, I do in fact prefer GHOSTS OF MARS. I do hate that Ice Cube is in it, but I just think it's good late night fun. And I love films with minimal people in small, confined places in an apocalyptic like spot.

Nah. I think I'll do with the smaller wrath here. I do think his last movie THE WARD sucked major ass if that's any consolation.

The Ward was pretty good for a low budget film. Not his best, but certainly not his worst.

To me The Ward felt like another director trying to direct like Carpenter if that makes any sense. It just doesn't have the same feel as his older films. I am also a huge fan of everything Carpenter and don't think any of his films are bad, just varying levels of good from ok to fantastic. So I may not be the best judge.

What about Nightmares, that was a pretty good film, and I think it was distributed by Universal...has this been shot down?

There has been only vague confirmation of a these releases, certainly no guarantees for September or October. I'm hopeful you are correct but sometimes speculation and prediction are not accurate. Criterion posted The Brood and Scanners on iTunes (and hinted in their newsletter Scanners would come this year) so there's some information, but not definitive. Eraserhead is less clear (just a newsletter hint). Fingers crossed, but with all the releases that are confirmed for September/October we are in for a treat.
