Didn't Cliff mention that they had Eve of Destruction a long time ago? How is that supposed to pass for a new announcement?

Anyway, these annoucements were pretty tragic on the whole. Can't say I'm really excited for any of 'em.

Edit: Regarding Nightbreed--if it doesn't include the theatrical cut, I'm totally passing on that one.

I'll take this batch of titles over a bunch of crappy Craven titles

I think people let themselves get too hyped up. If they had just announced Nightbreed and Cat People out of the blue everyone would be totally psyched right now

Didn't Cliff outright deny any Raimi titles other than Crimewave a few weeks back? I'm really happy with Darkman, but I just remember that.

I kind of wish there was at least one though. Oh well, they'll come soon enough.

No we wouldn't... I realize not everything can be "From Beyond", Phantasm II, Halloween, etc... but this is Comic Con, not just some random Friday announcement. These titles would have been disappointing for a regular Friday announcement, let alone an announcement at this caliber of venue and all the hype that goes along with Comic Con. I can only imagine the awkward looks and golf claps that ensued following these announcements at the panel. This is like being told you won the jackpot of a lottery and then finding out the pot was only worth $20.. yeah you won, but it's nothing worth writing home about.

this batch was probably what fit their budget
I would have substituted AOP13 for a better blu ray release of Escape from NY and a definitive release of Army of Darkness. I could get the French one but Id rather get a USA product, but it seems unlikely we wont get get the holy grail version here. Im also happy with my MGM DVD of AOD
Come to think of it I would have rather have AOD, EFNY and Nightbreed (even though I havent seen it but it is popular) and save the others for some bottom of the barrel announcements. Id settle for fewer titles if the few were the good ones This is just my humble opinion dont hate thanks

I am up for Assault on precinct 13 and Nightbreed! I hope they use the Capelight transfer as the US transfer has boosted contrast.

I agree completely. When Scream Factory was announced, it seemed like horror titles for the horror lovers. Now it seems like almost anything makes the cut. I don't buy all the releases as some of the films don't interest me. Of the announced, only Darkman and Nightbreed really peak my interest.

I just don't want Scream Factory to become less about horror.

These titles are a hell of a lot better than the ones that were being rumoured here. Yes, it's a little disappointing some of them are double-dips but if Scream Factory want to be the Criterion of cult horror movies, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 and DARK MAN are hard titles to turn down. CAT PEOPLE is very welcome, as is NIGHTBREED. The only one I haven't seen is EVE OF DESTRUCTION.

Personally, I'm most stoked for SATURN 3, which has a big nostalgic appeal. It's not the greatest of films, to be sure, but it is worthy of reassessment.

I'll be buying most of these titles; maybe all of them, depending on extras, new transfers etc

I am most excited about the TV titles. Hope it will turn out to be a success for them.

As for the rest...

I really hope they find the film elements of the Cabal Cut, as all public exhibitions so far has been from tape AFAIK.

Saturn 3 sounds trashy enough for me to pick it up. Never seen it, but I remember having the video cover in my hands several times back in the 80s.

I will probably get Cat People, but I really have no interest in Darkman and Assault. I know the latter has a lot of fans, but I have always found it rather boring. I finally saw it again on 35mm last month and I could not wait for it to finish and the second feature (Escape From NY) to start. Maybe it's because I have always loved Rio Bravo and felt Assault was a weak interpretation of it.

I think the general sense of disappointment could have been avoided had Scream tempered expectations somewhat. When they said they were going to make announcements at SDCC, most people assumed that due to the nature of the occasion and the similar showcase at Horrorhound last year that the titles would be high-profile ones from the 2014 slate, including frequently requested ones, like Without Warning, Fright Night 2 and the Wes Craven films. But had Scream said that they would be announcing one major 2014 release and rounding out the 2013 slate, people would have been more realistic, given that 2013 is already stacked as it is and knowing that most of the high-profile titles would have already been announced. So to those people saying "I can't believe they turned down Night of the Demons for these", you have to remember that we've only seen one film from the 2014 line-up.

This is not a slight on Cliff or Scream, but just a general observation on the reaction around here. I am of course delighted about Nightbreed, and also the promise of TV movies (Don't Go To Sleep is a must, rights permitting). Providing Scream will be at Horrorhound again in September, I expect they'll announce some of their heavy-hitters for 2014 there.

I'm really glad they're giving the made for TV requests a chance, and I hope anyone who is interested in more such efforts will pick up Scream Factory TV Terrors (The Initiation Of Jessica / Are You In The House Alone?). They've been pretty earnest saying it's an experiment, and most importantly they've listened to us. I hope it pays off. Despite it being a DVD release, it's far more interesting to me than the majority of their Comic Con announcements sadly (excluding Nightbreed and Assault On Precinct 13).

It may be true that my initial reaction to these announcements was mild disappointment, but with a little bit of time to think about them I am all for them. Perhaps Scream Factory chose to announce these particular titles at Comic Con because they had more of a sci-fi/comic bent that would best cater to that audience? Also, don't forget these are just a tiny, tiny portion of the titles we'll be getting in 2014.

I, for one, will buy them all and support a great, great company.

It's not SF's fault that they were overshadowed this week by Synapse's thrilling, out-of-this-world announcement of Curtains and Prom Night.

After the initial Dissapointment last night i have to say that while on the whole im abit underwhelmed,Nightbreed and Cat People are 2 that i will definatly pick up.Darkman im not to sure,i like the film but i'll probably pick it up if it comes with a good set of extras.I don't know why Assault is in there though, not a horror film. The rest not too bothered about.I'm sure were in for alot of bigger titles in 2014.I have to realisticly think how much could i have afforded to get what with all the great titles coming in the next few months and then Christmas()

I completely agree.

There were some (non-SF) great announcements this week.

Criterion October titles
Prom Night / Curtains from Synapse
The Shark Hunter (79) from Retrovision
Don't Look in the House from Scorpion (if the master is good)

Many of their Dvd releases seems fit to blu-ray more so than some of their actual blu-rays.

The Outing, Cellar Dweller, Initiation of Sarah, and Are you in The House alone, they should just do big volume multipacks down the line, when they have more money to do HD, with all of their DVD titles on blu, imo.

Based on the Twitter reaction, you could not be more wrong. Again, Blu-Ray.com is the ONLY place I hear people *****ing. Hundreds of people excitedly Tweeting and RTing on my feed. I honestly do not think I have seen a bigger online reaction to anything else out of SDCC this weekend. I also posted the information to my wall and every one of those posts racked up 50-100 comments within an hour.

You guys are really on some other track. I would consider The Serpent and the Rainbow on par with the profile of the titles announced. The others you mentioned, significantly below. Fright Night 2 may not be on Blu and the DVD is OOP, but you're nuts if you think that's a bigger title than Darkman or Cat People by any metric. You may want it more, but objectively, these are the huge, major "gets."

I don't think anyone's denying that there's some major coups for Scream in there. Cat People is certainly a high-profile, compelling announcement. But are Eve of Destruction and Saturn 3? They seem more like weekly announcements then one's you save for a big event like this. And while many will be excited by Assault and Darkman, I can't say I'm interested in two titles already released on Blu-ray, and ones that are somewhat questionable inclusions in this line. I'm glad that others are excited by these, but I think other horror fans were hoping more for stuff not yet released on Blu or even DVD (at least in the US or in a quality offering).
