The cover has Michael Berryman, a pentagram, and a girl's arm on fire - it's clearly not a romantic comedy.

No, but it could be a horror comedy about the Amish! Wait, that's not what it is, is it?

Any guesses for tomorrow's announcement? I'm gonna say: The Town that Dreaded Sundown, The Video Dead, or Hospital Massacre!

As somebody who has never seen Deadly Blessing (and has no idea what it's about) the cover art intrigued me enough that I'll purchase. Love it!

That would be nice! But since they just completed a deal with MGM, I think its safe to say we can expect them in the long run. So if it's not now...

I know Deadly Blessing is considered an underrated film and it has its fans, but I seriously hate the movie... I want Phantasm II news!
That being said, I would love to hear your opinions of Deadly Blessing.

it's no classic-- but I don't understand "hating it"--- it's a fun B-grade horror flick-- the scene with Stone and the spider alone is worth the ticket to see it--

The spider in the mouth scene has haunted me since I saw it on HBO in like 1982

I do agree that scene is great, but that's about the only good thing of the movie. I hate the movie because it frustrates so much. I mean, the story is interesting, it has good enough actors and even Wes Craven is involved... so much potential, yet it ends up being sort of mixed bag. Even though the story and the setting are quite original, the direction and the set up are not. The first hour or so couldn't be more boring until the third act finally delivers some thrills. DB is all over the place, sometimes it doesn't even make sense and it feels rushed. I don't know if it was Wes Craven's fault or the studio, but it almost feels like they had an idea and they didn't know what to do with it. The final product is a mashup of different ideas that don't flow together sprinkled with some great scenes (the spider in the mouth, the bathtub scene...). DB doesn't know what it wants to be? Is it a giallo, with someone killing people? A supernatural thriller? I don't know. The whole thing is a bit dumb (and not in good way). I know it's a horror movie and all but what's up with all the stupidity:
-When Susan Buckner's car is dosed with gasoline, she tries to drive away only to die when the car blows up. Why didn't she just step out of the car?
-The gun practice scene, with the paint can exploding in slow motion. And what was the point of that scene?
- The whole barn scene with Sharon Stone, which doesn't make any sense. There's a killer in the barn but Sharon is more terrified of the very HUGE spiders in the barn. Then she comes face to face with a dead Michael Berryman popping out of nowhere and hanging from a rope.
- Sharon Stone's nightmare sequence. This is the best scene in the movie. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the rest of the film.
- Chickens popping out of a burial ground.
- Inane dialogue, like when Jensen says defiantly "You want me to run because you can't find the killer!" Well, yeah.
-The ending, which is totally inexplicable.

It does look like a fan-made cover IMO. I'm not sure what they are going for... "grindhouse" feel?

I've never seen this movie btw.

I'd really like to see a new HD release of Wes Craven's SWAMP THING.

Hmmm... This week I'll take another stab at "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" being tomorrow's announcement. "Without Warning" could be very possible as well. Also, for a reach, I'd say "New Year's Evil" on Blu-ray for maybe a January 2013 release. Can't wait to see what's announced regardless!

I imported the Region 4 DVD a while back and had never seen it before. It's one of those "sounds better than it really is" type of deals. I didn't care for it either.

I'd say Without Warning is a good guess, but are you sure that MGM controls it? I usually don't include it, because I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure MGM has the rights... I could be wrong though.

WITHOUT WARNING is one of those mystery ownership titles. MGM probably have the TV rights, either in the U.S., or abroad, or both, but Camelot Entertainment (owners of the Liberation/Filmways catalog) is listing the film among the titles it controls. So unless someone with inside knowledge can tell us otherwise, I'm leaning toward MGM. If I'm wrong, either way the film has a better chance now than ever of being released since Scorpion Releasing has apparently licensed the Liberation library so it might come from them if not MGM.
