Man that's awesome. It's such a shame that Shout couldn't get the rights for "In the Mouth of Madness."

Loving the "Psycho" sequels' extras! I'm officially prostituting my body this Fall to fund my Blu-ray addiction.

I completely forgot about Bates Motel, is it any good? I've heard things but I've never seen it. Too bad they couldn't include it as a bonus.
I was thinking about this tonight. Obviously, Psycho IV isn't the most popular title at Scream Factory World Headquarters. I'm an admitted Scream Factory fanboy and know that they know what they are doing. They don't need any help from me. However, Cliff himself has said (in his excelent interview on youtube) that the movies they sell aren't always about selling great movies, they are about appealing to collectors in this age of declining physical media, and they do that as well as any company I've ever given my money to. With that being said, if they were to ever reconsider Psycho IV, this is how I'd do it.

First off, give it a decent little makeover. No one is expecting an amazing restoration process, but do enough to make it presentable on blu, and at least the critics can say, "this is as good as this has ever or will ever look on home video." I wouldn't waste alot of time creating a ton of original extras for this. Find some original Showtime promo clip from when it was first released and maybe one 10 minute interview with someone affiliated with the production. Then, the total package would look something like this...

2 Disc Collectors Edition

Disc 1 (Blu-Ray):

Psycho IV restored and presented for the first time ever on Blu-Ray!
Original Showtime trailer (if possible)
Interview with (insert name here)

Disc 2 (DVD):

Original 80's tv pilot for Bates Motel presented in standard definition
Psycho Legacy (This one is optional. I know it has a separate release, but you already own it, and it would be one extra thing to entice those who maybe have held off on buying it seperately.)

Don't bother with new art. Keep the original poster/dvd art and it would be nice and consistent with the releases of II and III. I'd certainly be lining up with cash in hand for a package like that.

If they still didn't think it would enough to sell enough, go Twilight Time with it and make it a "Limited Edition Collectors Set." I guarantee people would line up. After all, as you guys said yourselves, we are collectors as much as anything.

BTW, I think Bates Motel would be interesting only as a special feature. Kinda like Terror In The Aisles was on the Universal Halloween II or even the TV Cut on Screams Halloween II release. I don't remember it being any good, not by a longshot, but a nice bonus (better than alot of bonus features on releases) for 80's nostalgics, completists, and the curious.

Awesome news on extras there!

Now for Cat People, how about the same extras as the Universal DVD plus new ones like Horror's Hallowed Grounds, interviews with Natassia Kinski/Malcom Mcdowell/John Heard, TV spots, radio spots, Alan Ornsby commentary, deleted scenes and poster and still gallery?

For Darkman, how about deleted scenes, trailers/TV spots, interviews, commentary, poster and still galleries and all that?

Can't remember if this ever came up... but how about a Cube trilogy?

To be fair... I haven't seen Cube Zero yet...

But... Cube (to the power of 3) seems like a trilogy waiting to happen.

I watched Psycho II in HD on television about a year ago and it looked really good but strange. Very bright and reasonably detailed but there was very little grain. Strange part was that it didn't look waxy most of the time. If that's the master they use for the BD, that's pretty good news. I'd rank what I saw 3.5/5 merely because of the inconsistencies. If it were grainier, it'd easily get a bump to 4/5. It was very clear but surprisingly "clean".

If Universal was smart, they would use this oppurtunity to release Psycho IV on blu-ray with the free publicity of Scream releasing II and III.

So I'm guessing the rights to the rest of the series reverted back to SimCom, just as Prom Night 2 did earlier this year, and Echo Bridge now has DVD rights, but Synapse has already proven the blu-ray rights are separate.

My copy of The Fog arrived today from ImportCDs. Popped the disc in and flicked through the film to see what the transfer is like; looks good although it seems there is a lot of haloing in certain scenes.

Shout should try to wrangle 1984's ICEMAN away from Universal. I think the film deserves a little better treatment than a barebones fullscreen DVD. I don't even acknowledge it's existence.

I found it to be a very nice transfer for what it is, a low budget horror flick. It's the best it's ever looked on home video that's for sure.

Enjoy.

That would be nice, can only hope. Maybe the same could happen with Darkman 2 & 3.
