Just watched Amityville 2 yesterday, it is the first time I've seen any of the series besides the original and its remake and I have to say it made me interested in the rest of the series. I think the original film is a chore to sit through but Amityville 2 was entertaining and will make me pick up this boxset eventually.

So they're just going back and forth now.
That's not the story I have heard.

I heard that Code Red got the rights from the official rights holder while Jett claimed to have obtained the rights from somebody else. She even had a lawyer send Code Red a cease and desist letter. Nothing came of it, though, because Code Red's rights are legit.

That's a completely different situation and cannot be compared to the debacle surrounding Popcorn.

In the case of The Visitor, it appears the Italian rights holders have double-crossed the americans and sold the rights twice.

Some speculated that maybe CR only had the rights for DVD and Alamo Drafthouse bought the rights for Blu-ray, but according to CR their rights are valid for all home video formats.

Everybody is now waiting to see how Alamo Drafthouse are going to play it out. For certain their claim that it had never had a decent home video release before and they more or less singlehandedly rescued it from obscurity tastes a bit sour when one looks at the very good DVD SE Code Red put together only a couple of years ago.

They could probably both go after the Italian rights holders, or at least CR could. But CR probably won't, as they basically are a one-man operation who does not really have the money for lawsuits.

POPCORN isn't the only film he's sitting on - there's a fairly long list of titles he's holding back for various reasons, some real, some imagined. The Mutilator, probably the one that most people want, has been in limbo for more than 5 years. It's frustrating beyond belief (more than his disdain for the Blu-ray format).

Yup, if CR are just going to pointlessly continue acquiring films only to vaguely hint at future potential releases, cancel/indefinitely postpone releases, only release in DVD format, and/or just sit on them entirely and refuse to release them at all, then more power to any other company that might actually, you know, release the movie on Blu-ray.

And let's not forget Night Warning/Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker, which they even went so far as to produce special features for it and then the release evaporated.

So glad I found a cheap copy of Media Blasters release of Just Before Dawn. A movie of that caliber doesn't deserve the shoddy treatment it's getting from CR.

i think Amityville 2 is the best of the series. 3 is a bore. part 2 would be the only reason for me to buy the set and im probably not going to spend 60 dollars for one movie

Maybe I should grab a cheap copy of part 3 on DVD to check out before I commit to the boxset...

If you look at the DVD caps, they all also have a very faint transparent line just below the top edge. I thought that this was what everybody was talking about.

Thanks for your help!
Now that I look, I can see what you're referring to on the DVD.

I'm going in blind myself..even if it is boring, the 3D has to make up for at least some of story fails. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

I remember buying Amityville 3 on LaserDisc back in the day for $50.00 because it was OOP and very hard to find. It's one of my guilty pleasures.

Come on, guys. Please announce something. I feel like I'm going through withdrawal. Last night, I dreamed that giant Phantom of the Paradise VHS tapes were chasing me through a video store. So bizzare!
