As long as a title is region compatible, what's wrong with importing? It's no different than ordering from a US based website. It just normally takes longer to receive.

If it's region-free, then why not, other than I suppose cosmetic quibbles about ratings logos? (I asked them by email if they'd consider omitting the ratings stickers from their reverse art, like Arrow does, but didn't get a reply.) 88 Films has been doing very good (and very cheaply priced) work so far.

Sorry, didn't mean to pile on, my post appeared at the same time as his. You should really look into the 88 Films releases though, I've got Pit and the Pendulum and Castle Freak and was quite pleased with both. They have higher bitrates then the Full Moon releases and lossless audio, plus booklets, original art, and additional extras. Plus they were quite inexpensive.

Especially Amazon.uk or Amazon.ca. It's basically the same as ordering from Amazon (US).

I don't disagree with your assesssment of Full Moon's capabilities, but Shout! would have a hard time competing price wise with 88 Films.

Ex: All three Puppet Master films could be ordered from amazon.co.uk for roughly $50.00 shipped. You don't even have to set up a new account if you already have one with amazon.com.

I agree, Full Moon seems to be putting all of their best selling titles on blu slowly but surely so there really isn't a need for Scream to try and license their titles. Scream would probably do a better job, but I would rather they focus on titles that otherwise might not get a proper release. The Full Moon releases do lack special features. However, they usually feature a vintage behind the scenes videozone.

I've been meaning to pick-up Castle Freak and the Subspecies Trilogy. Hoping Lurking Fear makes it to blu at some point as well. All Full Moon classics.

Nope. I am the same way. I have over 1000 Blu-rays but don't one disc that isn't from Canada/ US. I may eventually import the 88 Films discs though. It's so hard to find out whether all extras are playable on any machine that I haven't ventured out. Some are on PAL DVDs, some are Region free but can still have compatibility issues if they are in 1080/50hz or whatever. Since this info is hard to come by I haven't been motivated to check out any discs. Even using this site or other forums its hard to find a straight answer. And there are lots of places to find out whether a movie is region free but not the extras.

And yes I can buy a region free player but that opens up a whole other can of worms. One, they are expensive, unless you get that crappy $50 player from Walmart, one that I've heard has lots of problems especially with its remote. And what happens in 10 years when the player breaks, it'll be harder and costlier to get a replacement region free player, thus making a bunch of my movies useless. What happens if I want to watch a movie in a different room or at a friends house, or if a friend want to borrow a movie for that matter? Something my podcast partner does a lot for our show. There are many issues that make it more of a hassle than anything.

And if I leant anything from the DVD days, its that if you wait it out just about everything will eventually make it over here. Other then a handful of discs with a few exclusive extras, there aren't that many must have import DVDs at this point as just about everything eventually came over here. I'm willing to bet with Blu-rays it will be the same.

As far as Troma, Vinegar Syndrome just struck a deal for some of their horror films, like Cry Wilderness and who knows what else.

Scream Factory got a shout out in this breakdown of the enigma that is Blair Witch 2.

As a side note, tonight's episode of the riff show Live Nude Geeks (over at geekjuicemedia.com) is of the Roger Corman's Cult Classics title, Up from the Depths.

Not that bad, Vinegar Syndrome does PHENOMENAL work.

Damn near perfect PQ and AQ and lots of extras on their blu-rays/dvds.
And they're no stranger to horror films, either.

They are a restoration and preservation company so you know everything, even their dvds are gonna look and sound great. Which they do. And they genuinely love these cult films. I have each of their blu-rays and even the crappiest movies look like they were made yesterday.

In terms of quality, I'd say they're one of the best in the business, if not the best.

So, its not a travesty. Lol.

Exactly, plus they've got tons of interesting films coming out in DVD and Bu like Last House On Dead End Street (Blu-Ray/DVD, completely remastered from the original negative), Corruption (TBC), Her Name Was Lisa (TBC) Let My Puppets Come (TBC) and many more.

Hell, I remember asking for a decent release of Hot Summer In The City (The 70's roughie that Tarantino called "The best porno ever made") and they answered personally saying that they could buy the rights but there aren't any prints avaiable for it.

Here's an article showing their warehouses and it's utterly amazing how dedicated they are about every single release they do (Kind of NSFW warning): http://www.rockshockpop.com/forums/c...drome-Archives!

[Show spoiler]

So, I was at Carowinds Amuesment Park in Charlotte, NC this weekend and they have an annual haunt around Halloween (appropriately titled 'SCarowinds'), like most parks do. And this year they have the theme of the misty streets of London with Jack the Ripper and the Torture Tower, as well as a giant Big Ben replica in one part of the park.

Anyway...
It made me crave the MGM film Jack's Back, which Scream Factory should definitely get in their next deal. Its a modern Jack the ripper movie about a guy copycatting him on the 100th anniversary of the murders.

Not sure if this information is known or not, but I spoke to one of the Troma guys at Monster Mania Con, and he told me that a Blu-Ray release of The Toxic Avenger was in the works for next year.

Jack's Back is actually available on Amazon Instant Video (and it's free if you have Prime). They show the studio (the rights holder) as: Screen Media Ventures. Never heard of 'em, but I guess they have the rights.

Hasn't that been in the works for years?
