I'm still gonna hold firm that I think the box set is the "Phantasm" series. While the original and parts 3 and 4 are with Anchor Bay, I think a deal is going to be reached or is already in the works. Just a gut feeling. If it's not "Phantasm", I'd love for it to be a "Friday the 13th" collection but that may be unlikely. My only hope for the box set, whatever the franchise may be, is that it is shelf pleasing. Too many times great box sets with terrific features and visual representation have come out but there packaging suffers where the discs are stored in inconvenient ways or in holders that potentially scratch the discs. In addition, some get released in sets that, although look visually cool, there just not realistically going to fit on your shelf with the rest of your Blu-rays. I'm more than content with a Blu-ray box set coming out with a simple slipcover box that contains the films in individual Blu-ray cases, but that's just me.

Phantasm II and Phantasm III were originally Universal so those rights could have reverted back to Universal after a certain time frame lapsed. So, this set could very well BE a Phantasm Boxset. That would be amazing. Then maybe...just maybe we would finally get a Phantasm V.

I could see it being Phantasm or Psycho, or bite my tongue and hope to got it isnt The Beastmaster series.
It could be the Watchers series
Whatever it is I look forward to that announcement and if its something I dont want , big deal, it still fun to see happy buyers who will want the mystery set
And I like to see the Corman Poe stuff but SF is doing the 1980s tango right now

While Universal did distribute Phantasm III, they really had nothing to do with the production, Coscarelli had full control meaning the rights to III are under Starway International (the production company that made the film).

All the more reason that this could end up being a "Phantasm" set. With Coscarelli being heavily involved with Scream Factory's "Phantasm II", I'm sure the idea of seeing all the films released together with him overseeing and providing many of the supplements would be very inviting to him. That said, if this box set is aiming to be released around next Halloween time, then you have to imagine Scream Factory will be aiming to please loyal horror fans with something very special and unique. A "Phantasm" box set would be the way to do it. A "Psycho" set would be very intriguing and I'd welcome it but I feel like Universal might not let the sequels go so easily.

You know, another idea of what the Halloween 2013 set could be is the Tremors series.

That sucks. I did do a search on Youtube and it's there. But it's hard to hear the cast. I grabbed a copy and thought maybe I could tweak the audio but quickly learned I have no clue how to do that.

1, 3 and 4 are with Anchor Bay, but Anchor Bay hasn't done anything with the movies since 2007 (1 and 3)and 2008 (4) domestically and all of the UK releases appear to be out of print (not that the domestic license and UK license are related in any way), so I wouldn't be surprised if that deal is close to expiring, if it hasn't expired already.

I don't know, licensing the entire Phantasm series from the different owners would be a huge pain. It would a great coup if Cliff could pull that one off.

If this proves true then it'll make for a hell of a Halloween time treat!
I'm not gonna hold my breath on that, since I'd imaging it would be an incredibly difficult coup to pull off.

With that said, if they DID do that, on Blu-Ray, no less, I'd be pretty much obligated to purchase it. I absolutely love the Phantasm films, and the only thing that I was bummed about when it was first announced about Shout doing Phantasm II was that the other three weren't being released on Blu any time soon...

Phantasm box set would be awesome! It'd go nicely with the great UK sphere set.

Also, great interview with FEARnet!

I feel like we need a weekly timer counting down until Friday.

It isn't technically that hard. Phantasm I, III, and IV are with Anchor Bay while II is with Universal. If Shout! did a sub-licensing deal with Anchor Bay with only the classic films they own, then maybe (would be great if those 2 companies could join forces. )

I just realized that yet another possibility would be a box set of the Child's Play films (I don't know if sub-licensing Bride, Seed, and the upcoming Curse would be possible but it's a though after all).

It seems likely though that this box set would have to be a film series (most of us probably think that) since I don't see a compilation set, like focusing on a director for example, happening (I may be wrong).

Part 2 is probably the toughest license of the 4 to obtain since it was owned by Universal, but Shout! already has that. I think the other three are licensed through Coscarelli directly via Starway International, Inc., so it might not be too difficult for Shout! to get a hold of, though I'd be very surprised if it was through a sublicensing deal with Anchor Bay rather than the license slipping away from Anchor Bay altogether.

We're not even aware of where the Phantasm rights currently reside. Perhaps Anchor Bay's license has expired and the rights to 1 and 4 went back to MGM while 2 and 3 are from Universal, in which case perhaps Scream will put out a box-set. We've got a while until we find out, so we'll see. If Phantasm II really is being held back a while, which was one of the first titles announced, then that may give more credence to the theory.

Oh ok. Cool. Maybe it will be a 'Phantasm' set then.
