Just went up for preorder today. 1,300+ minutes of footage on a single Blu-Ray.
Am I reading the title correctly that despite being a blu-ray this will be in standard definition [indicated by "SD" at the end of the title listing]?

Amazon seems to confirm standard definition:

I wouldn't bet on the Attack of the B's release being anything worthwhile.

The new Shout!/Timeless Movies 4 You release undoubtedly will be using better source materials (direct from MGM) than the Attack of the B's Blu-Ray.

My only Scream Factory movie for the longest time has been They Live. However, just ordered The Fog, Halloween II, and Psycho II all in prep for October. Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped.

Also kinda want Psycho III and Halloween III. And definitely Darkman in December.

Does anyone know where they get custom slipboxes made? Is there a company that does them in mass, or do they do it themselves?

Anyone know?

Check out the custom cover art thread. I'm pretty sure there a member in there that can produce custom slipcovers.

Perhaps I should have rephrased, is there an official company that supplies them to companies like Shout Factory.

I have no interest in having one made, I just was curious because a google search came up empty. Shout, Mgm, Blue Underground, etc has to get them from somewhere?

Same. I've only had They Live since it came out. I want to snag a bunch for October: Halloween II, The Burning, Lifeforce, Psycho II, Day of the Dead, The Howling, and maybe The Fog. And then Assault and Darkman in December. And then Night of the Demons and Cat People early next year. Geez I have a lot to catch up on. There's even more than that. Those are just the collector's editions.

In that case, probably whomever handles their packaging and manufacturing. I'm pretty sure Technicolor offers this service, though I'm not sure if that's who Shout! uses. I think the industry term for the types of slipcovers Shout! uses is "O-Sleeve" or "O-Ring."

Edit: Acutrack too.

I exploited the FYE.com 25% deal today.

I had never ordered from them before, and so I don't have a membership, so the deals weren't as nice as they could have been.

For films already out, I ordered..

Swamp Thing- 17.23
Q: The Winged Serpent- 12.73
Dead Souls- 9.73
X-Ray/Schizoid- 17.23
Cockneys VS Zombies- 15.73

Then the following films I pre-ordered.

Prince of Darkness- 19.48
Psycho II- 19.48
Psycho III- 19.48
Body Bags- 19.48
Night of the Comet- 19.48
Amityville Horror Trilogy- 44.98
Vincent Price Collection- 50.98

Although the pre-orders weren't the greatest deals, all of those titles I'm happy to lock in < $20. I thought the deals on the already released titles were pretty good though.

I know what you mean, but for someone like me with mild OCD who refuses to mix Blu-Rays and DVDs in my collection, "Attack of the B's" is the more noteworthy release. Still, I understand what you're saying, and with regards to most people, you would be correct.

Pre-ordered Scanners II/III awhile ago, hopefully it arrives today. I've only seen the original film (one of my all time favorites!) but I've always been curious about the sequels.

Same goes for me. I understand why some would find the release asinine, however it is certainly justifiable for some. I never bought many dvds, only accumulating about 50 before I switched to blu-ray. Since then, I've sold off all but a couple dvd's that will most likely never come to blu-ray. I have never owned any of those films, though I am interested in several of them. More than likely, it will drop down to at least $15 in price, equaling about $0.83 per movie. Even if it's in SD and will only look as good as a dvd, at least it'll all be on one disc and I'll be able to display it with the rest of my blu-ray collection.

Bottom line is that it makes more sense for me to buy Attack of the B's on blu-ray rather than get a different dvd version.

Keep in mind of course that I'm not in any rush to get it. I'm hoping that some of these releases will be put out properly (particularly Spider Baby), and will only get this is as a last resort.

Alot of these pre-orders are actually even less on familyvideo.com

They had a $5 off purchase of a $50 purchase recently, so I was able to get Psycho II, Psycho III & Prince Of Darkness for $16.99 each w/free shipping

I know everyone is OCD about certain things but to buy inferior versions of a movie because it's on a Blu-ray disc instead of a DVD makes no sense. Just because these are in standard def. doesn't mean they will be as good as the DVDs out there. My experience from these sets is they are closer to VHS quality, and I'm willing to bet these transfers will be the same. The reason they can sell 100 movies for $10 is because they just use whatever ancient crappy transfer they can get ahold of. You'll be lucky if half of them are even in their right aspect ratio. I would rather have a DVD that has a great transfer that looks even better upscaled with some decent extras then a Blu-ray that uses VHS transfers, but I guess to each their own. Let us know if you have any questions regarding what is going on on screen as some of these are so dark and blurry you can't make out anything. To me I would never watch a movie with a dark blurry transfer for the first time as it may taint your opinion of the movie. It's like watching a recorded from a theatre screener to me. Not fair to judge a movie based like that.

No, there couldn't be an "official" place since most images used would be copy written. Therefore you would need to get them done elsewhere

When studios have slipcovers on their titles, normally this is done in-house (with their own artist/graphic designer) and not done by a third party company.

Interesting. Well I have had no experience with sets such as that, so I was unaware of all the technical issues that occur. That does change the situation drastically. I was simply comparing buying an SD set on bd vs an SD set on dvd.

Yeah be careful with these sets. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. Just because it states SD quality doesn't mean the quality will match other DVDs. Most of these usually use full screen VHS transfers, or really inferior and dark scratchy prints. I guess if you want to check out the movies before you buy each separately it's an option, but again, for me personally I prefer not to judge a movie with a crappy transfer as it can really sour the movie for me. If you are curious about any of these before you purchase them I would just watch them on Youtube as the quality will probably be the same.

There's a reason many are excited about Code Red's recent double feature release containing Silent Night, Bloody Night because even though it has been released several times on these cheap compilation discs, this is the first time it has been released in widescreen in a print that you can actually tell what's going on.
