I think its silly for distributors to spend the money on slipcovers and not shrinkwrap over them, instead of under.

They are sent shrinkwraped from the replication company.

They buy/manufacture the slipcovers seperately and then slide them over the already retail-ready blu's.

That seems why very few independent companies release them with shrinkwrap over the slip.

Kind of horror related question here, when do you usually start watching horror movies for Halloween? Also what movies are your goto staples for every Halloween viewing? I know someone who considers October 1st the beginning of Halloween horror movie viewings.

I consider halfway through September to be a good place to start, but then I tend to watch horror films all year long.

My go-to Halloween films? The classic Universal "Dracula" film, and "Ernest Scared Stupid". Once October rolls in, it's only a matter of time before I watch them each at least once.

"Berwin" WFLD 13 Loved it!

Edit I think it was channel 32 but 13 on tv set as it was the last cable channel available (Northern Indiana)

I watch horror year round, but I usually ramp it up around the 1st of September because 31 days simply isn't enough. As far as Halloween night, I've been rotating Halloween, Halloween III, Trick 'r Treat and Night of the Living Dead (1968) the past few years.

You and me both.

What's weird is that it's slated for the end of October, yet when I ordered through Family Video (using a code making it about $50 after shipping) it has it slated for shipping on October 8th.

So, I finally just upgraded to the blu-ray of The Return of the Living Dead tonight...that means it will be announced as an upcoming Scream Factory collector's edition soon, right?

No, they can't clear the music rights to the original soundtrack, and besides, its as good as its ever gonna get as is. Its difinitive.

Get the UK Steel if you want the original soundtrack, but the US release is almost perfect.

Not much more you could ask for on that one.
I'd much rather they focus on titles that haven't been graced with amazing editions already.

In addition... can you imagine the complaints from people who get slipcovers damaged/crushed by the shrinkwrapping process? I have no doubt that shrinkwrap over the slipcover would at minimum crush all the corners and edges.

The inclusion of the definitive 'More Brains' doc on the UK disc (plus additional extras) is another big reason to choose it over the US release. Cliff himself has admitted that Scream could never top the Second Sight steelbook.

SS put out a great steelbook but that release could still be topped, rather easily IMO, if someone went to the trouble of restoring the workprint cut. No release will ever be definitive without that version (same goes for Phantasm II).

...And created a new 4K scan of the film with the original soundtrack. Neither are going to happen though.

Want to know what's sad? I've never seen it with the original soundtrack. The version that I watched on HBO/YouTube was the new soundtrack. It's one of my favorite movies and I haven't seen it as the director intended.

Unfortunately other then the doc., I don't think you can watch any of the other extras unless you are region free. If like me you are not, it makes more sense to get the US edition with all the extras and just buy the doc. seperately, as it also has its own extras which are just as good as the main doc.

It's not a huge deal as it's not really noticeable unless you are looking for it. More of a bother to those that have been watching since it was released and notice the change.

Or love and frequently have the soundtrack on repeat

That's a small price to pay to ensure you're actually getting the slip. Give me crushed/crinkled corners any day over the fact that plenty of retailers still ship these without one at all.

It depends how tight the manufacturer shrinkwraps them. TOHO shrinkwraps their BDs over the slips and all of mine were fine.

The UK BD of ROTLD is not all definitive. Sure it might not happen but I would love for them to do a 3D Blu-Ray of it as it was one of the original intentions with it. I already seen it in 2D to 3D on my LG tv which looks real cool but could be better when it's done purposefully for 3D disc. I would love to see some behind the scenes videos photo gallery & such. Like any longer behind the scenes footage of Allan Trautman in the costume between takes and even some FX tests.

I have seen the Doc on YouTube although it's cool it doesn't make the UK BD any better and besides most had already got the doc before the UK disc was thought of. For those who want to know that Chiller channel is having the More Brains Doc this Saturday after the movie.

I do think the US release of Return of the Living Dead has slightly better PQ. Other than that, the UK release is definitive.

As spawningblue indicated, there is some 50hz (SD PAL or 1080/50i) content on the UK disc that will only play if your equipment can convert it to 60hz or output and play it natively.

Was it actually filmed in 3D or just planned for 3D prior to filming?
