I hope so, love the movie. It's a lot of fun and the special effects are great. Besides I'm a big fan of black comedies.

I think Scream should seriously consider more Italian horror and Giallo titles
such as the Beyond, The Sect, Opera, Planet of the Vampires...basically from the big three Argento, Bava and Fulci plus I think they should pursue Hammer titles held by Universal such as Island of Terror and Curse of the Werewolf.
Id like to think these would be good sellers and may do better than the ones Cliff said did not meet expectations. Not sure who owns the rights to some, other than MGM has Planet of the Vampires...They should jump on the Bava bandwagon

The Beyond is with Grindhouse and they have plans in store for that.

Opera is still at BU or AB, and there's no HD for that at the moment.

The Sect, well rights are messy.

Planet Of The Vampires though, completely doable, being MGM and all

As for the rest of the Fulci, Bava, Agrento's, they're generally accounted for with different studios, especially since Cliff said they wouldn't do any.

Don't forget Split Second! Would be happy with a blu-ray from any company on most of those movies. Ladyhawke and Flesh is out on blu already.

AFAIK Warner only acted as a distributor for HBO. Some even speculate THE CHANGELING might be with Lionsgate now.

From HTF:

Quote:
Both THE CHANGELING and THE SILENT PARTNER were very early productions by Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna, the founders of Carolco (FIRST BLOOD, BASIC INSTINCT, TERMINATOR 2). Initially, both titles got seed money from HBO in exchange for home video rights, which first went to Vestron when HBO had a deal with them, and later to HBO when they got their own standalone label.

However, a few years ago, THE SILENT PARTNER reverted to StudioCanal, who put it out through Lionsgate. The logic suggests that THE CHANGELING would follow suit as well. The fact that it has not surfaced is probably due to Lionsgate's general disinterest in catalog titles.
If this is true, then the only hope is probably an international release from SC.

Was waiting for Split Second to come up! Top movie!

I think it's with Sony though, so possible a TT release down the line

Hopefully now that Blue Underground is back doing blu-rays they will release some of these. I believe they mentioned that they're trying to regain the rights to some of the Argento films, and hopefully Opera is one of those.

Hasn't Grindhouse had the rights to The Beyond for a while now? I bought the Arrow release, and even though the extras are locked, the main feature is region free, and it looks and sounds great. I've got the corrected copy, and not the original washed out release with the black and white opening.

Now that the head of the company is finished with the Sam Raimi movies, he can start releasing again due to work load, so he's going I work his way through his entire back catalog in HD, but he's sating with the new titles, especially the Sony ones like Corruption, Big Gundown and The swimmer due to a shorts lisence.

As for the Beyond, being one of their most requested back catalog titles, they've announced they are working on it at th moment, as well as Cannibal Ferox

Didn't someone say that getting the rights to giallos and all those Italian films is expensive and that's why a lot of companies don't do it?

At this point anything that's any good has already been released, in some cases, re-released. Can some of the already released titles be improved upon? Sure, but as you suggest, the licensors are under the impression their films are worth their weight in gold. Nobody stateside has the kind of money to invest in that market. Which is a good thing because this way they can focus on titles that really need the money and attention.

All of those would be awesome. Planet of the Vampires is a must. IT just to be available on Netflix and even with their crappy streaming service, POTV looked very good.

The Italian horror/Giallos might be expensive but I bet they would sell better than many of their current releases - the specific titles I mention havent had a blu ray release (at least in the USA). Its great they are releasing titles never released on home video before, in fact Without Warning (still) would be a great title to release and they said it's on the radar.
My gut feeling says Eve of Destruction is going to bomb (pun slightly intended) in sales..I dont know about Cat People or Saturn III either. I know there is a market for every title released the question is how big. Im sure Nightbreed will be a good seller.

Yes, they released it on DVD and even re-released it in American cinemas.

Grindhouse have been slow to make the transition to Blu-ray, but let's not forget that the one owner is a very busy, Oscar-winning editor, and the other died unexpectedly last year.

I think many half expected the company to fold after Sage Stallone's premature death, and the rights being sold off to others, so it's quite wonderful to see how they have picked up and started releasing again with a hitherto unseen strength these last few months.

I am quite certain we will see releases of their most prominent titles, like The Beyond, Cannibal Ferox, and Cannibal Holocaust next year.

And this is pure speculation, but they seem to be planning one of their pre-Scream DVDs to upgrade to blu-ray on the new line, as suggested in the KillerPOV podcast.

Slumber Party Massacre?, Cannibal Girls?...

And they say they revently did a new transfer and it surprised them that it looked even better. If its that far along maybe we'll see it announced later this month?

If they do get Death Becomes Her I really hope Zemeckis lets them somehow do the extended cut or feature the deleted scenes and original ending to the film. This really has become my "holy grail" Special edition Wish film forever!

Yeah Eve of Destruction and Saturn III are rough choices if they are expecting great sales from. They may have got the titles cheap though and are only expecting moderate sales. Cat People might do well, I think it has a pretty solid fan base, might not do as well as some of the other collector's editions though. I think Scream definitely needs to keep expanding their title choices though, there are still some great 80's-90's American Horror but they eventually are going to get to a point where something fresh is going to be needed(variety if you will)...kind of like what Arrow is doing. I am with you Dsman on the Italian Horror genre but that is because of my personal taste as well but being objective the variety has to come from somewhere. And they are starting to so I hope the trend continues and their catalog continues to expand and evolve.

Slumber Party Massacre seems to be the most likely of the pre-Scream Horror titles to get upgraded to Blu-Ray, IMO.

The original Little Shop of Horrors might be a dark horse candidate. I'm pretty sure Shout!'s Trailers from Hell 2 is probably the only worthwhile DVD release of that film to date.

Something tells me that if Scream Factory were to release it, that Zemeckis would get involved in some capacity, whether recording an interview or commentary or at least providing all the excised materials.
