Most of the vintage trailers I've seen for horror movies were somewhat poor at giving an accurate impression of the actual movie. Back then the trailers were solely made to sell the movie and often misrepresented what the movie was like. I would recommend someone read some of the positive reviews on IMDB and some of the negative ones, to get a general idea about a movie they haven't seen.

CMAC, are the film elements in good shape for The Video Dead? I assume they must be for Scream Factory to give it a release.

In the case of The Video Dead, "Take a look on youtube since you can find more than a trailer there from time to time." was a hint... that there's more than just the trailer there. I think someone said it's streaming in HD on Netflix also.

Sorry, that one flew right over my head until you mentioned it.

I've seen the HD stream from Netflix. It was surprisingly nice despite the rough nature of the film scenes I had seen before. Prior to about 2011, only clips I saw from The Video Dead were very shotty, VHS-quality brief clips.

If handled correctly, the PQ should be a couple of magnitude increase from anything we've ever seen.

I haven't seen the master yet. It was a low budget film so I'm sure it won't look pristine.

watching The Video Dead in hd on netflix now. Looks pretty damn good in my opinion so I can see a bluray release looking great. Especially considering the last time I saw this movie was on an old horrible VHS copy.

I wish people could get over the whole pining over the BIG titles and appreciate how awesome it is to get these under-appreciated fun gems released. So far, every announcement has been golden to me. TerrorVision is one of my all time favorite movies. Grew up on it. Ive always loved The Nest and im happy to finally retire my VHS of it. Prison is a damn good 80s horror flick. Im happy more people will be exposed to it now.

Definitely happy with the announcement of The Video Dead and I cant wait till next friday to hear what other piece of greatness will be coming our way.

I also have never seen (or heard) of any of these besides H2, H3, and Terror Train. I would consider blind buying, but I would like to know I wasn't spending money on a film that requires nostalgia to enjoy.

Hell yes! The MGMHD and EpixHD broadcasts of The Video Dead look very good (I could posts caps if anyone wants). Yet another cool 80's horror film that never hit dvd.

The Video Dead is this campy, surreal, spooky, funny zombie flick that you pretty much need to see to understand. Just a couple of years ago I took my Ambien to try to sleep (it takes time to activate) and started watching The Video Dead, and let's just say the hallucinogenic effects of the Ambien combined in a very interesting way with the movie which amplified the odd dream like nature of the film. The acting is bad, but so bad it's good, and that lends to the surreal effect. The story is so random and with rules that pop in and out, and it has a nightmare type ending. The setting is claustrophobic enough while taking place in the suburbs, mainly because the area is surrounded by mid-autumn woods. The score is actually pretty creepy. All the quirks add up to a dream/nightmare like feel to the film.

I've never seen, 'The Island' (even though I would constantly see the VHS box in video stores when I used to peruse them), 'Death Valley' or 'The Video Dead' but, I plan on rectifying that with Scream Factory's Blu-ray releases. Thank you Cliff for all of these retro horror films.

That's one thing I miss about VHS....is going to all the old video stores browsing the shelves...that was one of my favorite pass-times. Used to see some awesome artwork, all the posters, standees, etc.

I'm pretty sure The Hitcher is owned by Time Warner via HBO Pictures, which would mean "No."

1000% Agreed!

The drawn artwork was really good. I used to get a kick outta spotting a new VHS box that had a gimmick like the talking Frankenhooker box, light up eyes on The Dead Pit, etc. The oversized boxes were cool too. I always remember the big Silent Night, Deadly Night box.

I remember seeing the Terror Train VHS at the local BBV and wanting to rent it but my friend I was with had already seen it and never wanted to rent it again. Since it was his membership, I didn't wanna be pushy. It was quite a few years later until I finally saw the movie. I don't own a copy myself and while the movie is not great IMO, it will be great to own it on Blu-Ray.

To some people these are big titles... movie that have never had a U.S. DVD release.
Shout's been in business a long time and it will continue to do so. These aren't are only releases. We release roughly 10 to 15 titles a month.
We aren't going anywhere.
I understand.. I'm just sayin'.

It's shocking the number of people here who have NEVER seen or even heard of these movies before. I suppose many of you were children of the 90's growing up on Buffy reruns . Glad to know some of you are willing to blind buy to support Shout - it only means we'll get to see even more of these films in the future.

For anyone looking for hints on what Shout might be releasing just take a look at the MGMHD or EpixHD listings on the TV Guide section of the newspaper. Whatever is airing in HD on those channels is likely part of the lineup IMO.

Not to derail this thread, but there's a fantastic collection of vintage VHS art here.
