I enjoy Scream Factory but I'd hardly call them genre heroes for releasing such totally safe films as Halloween 2, The Fog, The Howling, etc. These are great movies that represent popular entries in the genre that are sure to sell. If you want your favorite cult oddity or undiscovered genre gem to get put out it seems that one of those other studios is more likely to make a gutsy more lavishing a more obscure title with polished extras and restoration. I remember how cool it was in the hayday of Media Blasters to seem some obscure nasty pop up on their catalogue and miss those types of titles. If nothing else, the disproportionate frenzy with which fans buzz around Scream Factory guessing and requesting seems odd with the increase we've seem in releases across botique studios (even Cult Epics just announced some gems - Death Bed, Nekromatic, etc).

I'd be curious to see Scream Factory take more chances and release great movies with less popular appeal - their emphasis on projected sales betrays their fanboy loyalty to creative subjects. Despite being a business I'd be curious to see them gamble more often now that Scream Factory has achieved some success.
Schizoid, X-Ray, The video dead, Terrorvision, Prison and The horror Show are the definition of obscure titles. They definitely don't cater to the general audience, they're not well known by any means.

Great movie. Day one buy. If it's a possibility, I bet its fate hangs in the balance whilst they track Dark Angel sales.

I love Scream and they probably put out more titles than any other company that I am interested in. That being said, Synapse is by far the best company if you are going by quality releases. They stack their releases with extras but also do their own transfers and always deliver great PQ. Just read their posts when they delayed Street Trash or the recent Demons releases. They are a company who truly care about the product they are putting on the shelfs. What other company would spend that much time and money on titles like Curtains and Prom Night.

Scream delivers lots of extras but it's very rare that they spend any time or money on their transfers, for the most part just using what they were given. Phantasm 2, They Live, really any Universal title for that matter are great examples of this. They deliver great packages, but it would be nice if they had more of a budget to spend on the transfers as they are probably the most important part. It's also disappointing to see them turn down several films because they would have to create their own transfers where as Synapse is always up for the challenge. It's just unfortunate Synapse isn't a bigger company with more money to spend or else we would see them release a lot more.

You pretty much spelled out the problem...you can't release a lot of titles and still re-do every transfer. Even the large studios can't afford to do this. Like everything there is a balance...for a marginal difference in transfer I would rather have more titles than never see some of my favorites released on Blu. As it is we will never see as many as we did on DVD. The fact is the average Blu-ray fan does not have the ultimate media set-up to really show the differences in transfer. I do wish that all studios had large amounts of money to spend for all titles but that will never happen.

Isn't Messiah of Evil public domain? Or is that an "Up from the Depths, Tenebre, Phenomena, and Christmas Evil" situation, where it's just one version that's public domain.

If MGM and Shout could get another deal worked out, what horror titles would you like to see in the mix?

I'll start out with some easy ones:
-Motel Hell
-Deranged
-Squirm
-Howling II
-Bubba Ho-Tep
-Pumpkinhead
-Dr. Phibes Rises Again
-Theater of Blood
-Madhouse
-House of the Long Shadows
-Planet of the Vampires
-Invaders from Mars
-Tales of Terror

From a private seller on Amazon. I thought it would have been guaranteed seeing as their description said directly from the manufacturer.

Indeed... I mentioned that the last time this was brought up. I watched all 3 Ghoulies films this past Spring/summer. By far and away Parts 2 and 3 are the more enjoyable films and just SCREAM a Scream factory double pack. However, the completest in me would like to have part one as well, if only to have all 3 films for the rest of my life in High definition.

As far as which films top my list for Future releases wish list..

-Tales From The Crypt Demon Knight/Bordello of Blood
-Pumpkin head (Plus a Sequel or two)
-Motel Hell
-Leprechaun (Plus a Sequel or two)
-Poltergeist 3 (Or Better yet a fully fleshed out Trilogy)
-Ghoulies trilogy
-Village of the Damned
-Candyman (and Sequels)
-Hellraiser 3

And one more for the recent Wicker Man announcement and The Slumber Party Massacre announcement.

Pumpkinhead sequels are with Sony and Lionsgate, so nope.
Poltergeist 1 is with WB, so no trilogy.
Leprechaun 1-6 are with Lionsgate, so nope.
Candyman 1 is Sony. 3 is Lionsgate. 2 is the only possibility, being MGM.
Hellraiser 3 is Echo Bridge.

Plus, there are 4 Ghoulies movies.

1. That's why i said my wish list, and not my Universal/MGM list.
2. Plenty of companies have been playing nice as of late, so it's not impossible for Scream to get access to Poltergeist 1 or another title for a Trilogy set.
Lastly, Ghoulies 4 is a ghoulies movie in name only. Everything about that film strays from what was established in the first 3 films. It's essentially a reboot without the label. There are technically 4 Omen films (5 with the reboot) but people only ever chat about the trilogy, the ame could be said for ghoulies.
