I'm kind of disappointed for some reason. These were both complete surprises to me, but I particularly never liked Dog Soldiers, and Ginger Snaps never really tickled my fancy either.
Why not go all out and try to get something like Slither? Much better film not yet on Blu-ray. |

![]() ![]() Dog Soldiers and Ginger Snaps just don't really fit the bill that they've made their name on, that's all. They're both a little too recent compared to the rest of their label. All the rest of their CE's are at least 20+ years old. |

I have seen both and I KNOW (based on opinion) that Night of the Comet is better. And i was born over ten years after the film was released. I grew up with neither. Dont judge a book by its cover, NOTC is a huge fan favorite with a very large following, for a very good reason. Eve is a good movie too, but not nearly as well made, entertaining, or fun as NOTC. NOTC has zombies, the mall, ruins of LA, evil scientists, and Cyndi Lauper music. Eve is not nearly as "fun" as NOTC, but it has its moments. Very tense, but in NOTC you really care for the characters, my sister literally cried at one point. Im not biased, just my honest opinion. Lol. Quote:
As far as the 4 pack with Full Tilt Boogie, it was compressed to hell. Last edited by redrunner97; 11-17-2013 at 06:59 AM. |

Eve of Destruction was just another Terminator wannabe (and not a particularly good one IMO), one of many such films that were still being pumped out by the early 90's. Actually, the first half of the decade was pretty much defined by all the robot/cyborg/evil scientist/corporation movies that were being made - and further fueled by the success of T2 - through much of the first half of the 90's. I liked some of them: Philadelphia Experiment 2, Neon City, APEX, Nemesis and Crash & Burn were fun films. I recently watched my DVD copy of "Eve of Destruction" and was quite bored throughout. It didn't help that the film hasn't aged well.

![]() The 2011 Canadian steelbook is probably the best North American / Region A release as it has a better encode than all of Echo Bridge's various editions and includes special features that Echo Bridge doesn't. If I recall correctly, it doesn't have Full Tilt Boogie, but you certainly could supplement the steelbook with the Echo Bridge DVD for an extra $5.00 or the 4-Pack Blu for extra $6.00 if you don't already have the Dimension Collector's Edition disc. There are a bevy of Region B options. The Italian release supposedly has the best encode overall, but I have no idea which one is the best overall package, extras and all. Maybe the UK/French "Titty Twister Edition"? Note: In 2008, there was an amaray release in Canada. It does not contain the same disc found in the 2011 steelbook. The transfer used for that disc is overly bright to the point of looking washed out and it's barebones. Avoid. |

Now that SF is releasing them, I'll have to watch them now to see if they're worth buying to me. |

^ Dog Soldiers is definitely not SyFy, it's gory and intense, and at the same time has a sense of humor. Terrific fun, stands well along with The Descent. Ginger Snaps was uneven, with some lazy deus ex machinas, and its pure horror segments are not its strong point IMO, but it has some lovely black humor in how it ties in lycanthropy with female puberty. Definitely not a chick flick, if that worries you.

Eve of Destruction is a film I haven't seen since it thudded onto the home video market many years ago. I'd been looking forward to it, and even at the age of ten or so felt it was a terrible disappointment. I'll take another look because I'm fond of Scream's library generally, but no doubt I'll need plenty of beer on hand. Assault on Precinct 13 is a classic, and certainly the best of the three you're considering. Assault > NOTC > Eve. |
