Just started Silent Night Deadly Night. Hopes are high. I'll watch all five in due time. Christmas Evil too.
Any other bizarre Christmas movies (not necessarily horror)?

Off the top of my head:

Black Christmas
Silent Night, Bloody Night
Don't Open Till Christmas
To All a Goodnight

The And All through the House segment of Tales from the Crypt (1972) as well as the episode of Tales from the Crypt (1989)

Planned on checking out the Tales from the Crypt episode. May save the rest for next year.

I just remembered another...Santa Claws...but I recall that being one of the worst (and not in a best-worst kind of way) films I've ever seen.

Got it. Avoid.

I just thought of one: Jack Frost. I've seen the second but not the first.

Any just weird ones in other non horror genres?

Just thought of a good double for Scream come next winter: Iced / Shredder

I love 4, with the coven. I think its the best of all the sequels. I don't recall it being very Christmas-themed, the opening titles are so funky. You can tell they were experimenting with new digital title sequence technology and having fun.

5 is fun too. Like a Christmas version of Saw with kids. Trippy.

2 is also just off-the-wall strange (I wish Anchor Bay or whoever would also release that one along with the first, hence my earlier Garbage Day post). Its terrible but entertaining every time you put it in.

3 is the worst of the sequels (actually 2 is, but 3 isnt as fun), so slow and boring. I like it all of them though, including 3. Watch them almost every Christmas. Lately though Black Christmas and its remake have been my must-watch list for the holiday.

I'm actually going to see the original, Silent Night, Deadly Night in a week or two, part of the re-release by Fangoria. I rented it a long time ago and just died when I saw it. One of the most outstanding slashers of the 80s, and one of the better more apparent Halloween rip-offs.

Don't save Black Christmas for next year, its definitely better than any others out there, and is genuinely creepy. (although you've probably seen it, how could you not!!)

I also recommend Don't Open Till Christmas, with the drop-dead stunning Caroline Munro. It's like a reverse of SN,DN. The killer is killing all the street santas that ring bells for charity and stuff like that.

The unholy trinity of Christmas horror is definitely:
(in order)

1. Black Christmas.
2. Silent Night, Deadly Night.
3. Don't Open Till Christmas.

other holiday horrors I might add....Santa's Slay (Bill Goldberg as an evil demonic Santa Claus) and in all honesty, the Black X-Mas remake gets better and better with every viewing. Hell, other than SNDN, it's my favorite Christmas themed movie.

On the topic of "Silent Night, Deadly Night", has anyone else seen the remake? I thought it was awesome, even if it did get a bit too brutal at times.

Can't agree enough.

Pretty sure Black Christmas desperately needs a new scan/transfer though, which would make it somewhat less appealing for Scream Factory to take since that could be expensive. I'd still absolutely love to see it though.

I loved it, but then again, I'm never one to hate on remakes just for the sake of hating on them. I always give them a chance and almost always end up enjoying them. Yay for having an open mind

Going back to the Christmas horror (or non-horror) question,

Every year, I watch Christmas Evil, Santa's Slay and have recently added Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale to the mix.

I have never seen Christmas evil but I just ordered the Arrow DVD last week so I will be looking forward to that. I have never seen To All A Goodnight either due to the lack of releases. I haven't even seen Don't open till Christmas but I here isn't nothing special...that is what I hear anyway, definitely still want to check it out.
