From a Chief Technology Officer of Disney, regarding Ultra HD, see #3…“The hard part is creating a color camera that’s …. able to go up to 2020. It’s about color space.” on his exploring list -
http://www.cablefax.com/cfp/just_in/...ine_62593.html Answer from Penton-Man…… Currently, Sony’s F65/55 cameras’ S-Gamut is the closest fit to 2020. |

El Clásico in 4K.
No, I’m not referring to the I.S.D.T. segment in On Any Sunday, the one event which Malcolm Smith takes very seriously… I’m talkin football this time - http://advanced-television.com/2014/...-transmission/ |

For those UK-ers who missed the 3/20 showings, there are some showings tomorrow, 3/23, or, as you folks like to write it, 23/3 (4K presentations are at selected locations with 4K projectors, so best check with your local cinema)…. http://www.petergabrielbacktofront.c...-kingdom/c1jhv |

The last HEVC meeting in the development of 10-bit to 16-bit profiles will start later this week and apparently Movielabs did not propose anything related to YDzDx. I guess the problems caused when combining chroma subsampling, a different white point, and a perceptual gamma curve proved more difficult than expected. The main proposals made by Movielabs was to allow for the 2.6 gamma curve, which is used by digital movies, and to allow for limited range video encoding with the XYZ color space (I guess they are trying to appeal to TV broadcasters). Also several proposals on color mapping have been made including a proposal that allows for color mapping from wide color gamut video to HDTVs.

Dang Chelsea - http://www.theguardian.com/football/...e-match-report
Well Steed, after the 3rd goal, football night for us quickly turned into Blu-ray movie night as I fast forwarded (x5) the rest of the match in order to maintain mental sanity. Geoff, payback time for their shirt sponsor. Go at it - http://www.tomsguide.com/us/samsung-...ews-18510.html |

![]() Do you follow the mpeg investigators with regards to their discussions on wide color gamut (N14162) as well? http://lists.uni-klu.ac.at/mailman/listinfo/xyz More work to be done as you’ll note that also on the SMPTE side, the project is already behind its intended completion date - https://kws.smpte.org/kws/public/pro...project_id=200 as the situation is complex. Nevertheless, for the sake of simplifying one aspect to all readers, YDzDx for chroma subsampling is a worthwhile endeavor of study because HDMI 2.0 is bandwidth challenged to carry 4:4:4 4K/60p at greater than 8 bit bit depth as was declared (with remorse) to my buddy Saprano - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...no#post7907163 P.S. Thinking back on it, unequivocally declared over a month ^ before ![]() Last edited by Penton-Man; 03-23-2014 at 07:44 PM. Reason: added a P.S. for the historical record |

Geoff, you guys are safe. Trust me, Sunderland will not be overtaking you. I think Fullham and Cardiff are gone. Honestly think you are safe although it breaks my heart to admit we are down. Completely toothless and we deserve to be relegated. The fans though, well it's far from what we deserve. Over 40,000 for the palace home game and look what happened.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816711/...ef_=tt_dt_spec http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2193215/...ef_=tt_dt_spec Let’s see how well the content providers’ after-the-DI-fact upscaling solution works on the ^ above flicks, esp. with handling the grain in the 500T 35mm source used for G.I. Joe. |

Still, the fact that Musuem and XO:Wolverine are 4K and those other three brand-new blockbusters are not, shows how far 4K finishes have to go before gaining widespread acceptance. Or perhaps its simply the trend for 3D that's doing the damage; a 4K pipeline is costly enough, but doing one for each eye is too much of a strain on the ol' wallet. (Which is of course what warded off Pete Jackson from finishing his Hobbit movies at 4K). |
