![]() ![]() As a grateful memento from the Top Gun: Maverick production, on the inside, a couple of patches stapled to a ceiling beam, or in your vernacular, to a horizontal supporting pole. ![]() P.S. I think by now y’all appreciate the significance of the camera crew, but just as key, arguably more so because they’re like the horse before the cart, are the LMs and their crew - It can get complicated as to making the best choice for land and air – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post16852642 locations. Yeah, he or she also quickly caught Amy P. bending over to thank Quentin T. while seated at his table next to Tom Rothman that I’d bet some longtime power players at Sony Pictures and Sony Corp. felt awkward about.

![]() ![]() Believe me, I use my fair share of 4 letter words like when privately with my wife or at most publicly in a group of two or three good friends whom I’ve personally known for years during times of duress like at the moment of crashing and dislocating my finger, but never felt the need as an adult in my 40’s to legitimize the importance of my comments to a bunch of people I didn’t know well by using language at a formal dinner/celebration that some attendees might well find offensive. You may say, well, but Ricky did the same and likely worse during his monologue….. however, that was different in that Ricky was the HFPA appointed court jester, self-proclaimed at that; whereas Joaquin, even as a single practitioner, is a representative of the acting profession. All that said, I think his performance in The Joker was superb and he is/or should be the leading contender for the Oscar in that category. P.S. Note – Scottishguy had the courtesy to use an asterisk in the follow-up post to you, even Geoff D too on the last post I read and responded to on the CES thread. |

received a PM from someone informing me that the calibrator guy light illusion is going thru the trouble of posting on multiple twitter websites disparaging the launch of Dolby Vision IQ for not abiding by the PQ standard (ST. 2094-10 resulting in inaccuracy.
nevertheless, sometimes it is worthwhile to “break” the standard when operating under less than ideal conditions be it extrinsic (ambient light environment) or intrinsic (compromised TVs), e.g. from a member of the ICDM HDR WG – “an ideal display should follow the PQ curve as accurately as possible. Displays with significant compromises in peak brightness or dynamic range shall apply tone mapping, where a pleasing image is more important than following the PQ curve.” https://www.displaydaily.com/article...w-the-pq-curve |

By making the average part of the signal that much brighter while the peak brightness for speculars etc can't physically go any higher than what the TV can already do then we're physically narrowing the dynamic range (between average and peak levels, I presume that IQ will still go down to black if necessary) and undermining one of the key USPs of this entire format. And for what, so Mr and Mrs average (who can barely tell HDR apart from SDR as it is) can watch it in a blazingly bright room? No sir, I don't like it. I fear this is the start of the dumbing down of HDR, and I know you think HDR reviews aren't worth shit but this tech will just muddy the waters even further for conveying what's actually in the transfer versus how it gets mangled by whatever TV. Though HDR has been a shitshow for that anyway to be fair, what's another set of viewing parameters except one more for the fire? |

Comcast to Show Super Bowl 2020 In 4K
“For the first time the Super Bowl will be broadcast in 4K Ultra High Definition,” tweeted @Comcastcares, the company’s customer service page. The cable operator also recently revealed that it will show the LSU-Clemson college football championship game (Monday, January 13, 8 p.m. ET) in 4K. To watch either event in 4K, Comcast subscribers will need a 4K-enabled set-top from the cable operator as well as a 4K TV. Fox has the broadcast rights to Super Bowl LIV, which will be played February 2, 2020 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The network plans to produce the event in 1080p and ‘upscale’ it to 4K via a stream on its Fox Sports apps. Upscaling is the process when one video format is converted to another. In this case, Fox will take the 1080p HDR signal and convert it to a 4K format, presumably 4K HDR. (This is what Fox did during the 2019 season with the 4K display of Thursday Night Football; the Thursday games were not produced in 4K, but they were upscaled to 4K.) https://tvanswerman.com/2020/01/09/c...wl-2020-in-4k/ |
