Here is my first try with the 3d case thing Imandix

Nothing special. I haven't even put the company logos on the bottom of the back nor have I figured out which Star Wars logo or font to use on the spine. Instead of criterion number I just used Roman Numerals although I probably will change it to the Episode Title font. I am not creative enough to actually Photoshop real art stuff so I took the poster I already like and put it on the cover. I haven't decided if I'll keep the textless one or use the one with the episode title and number. I kind of like having no text on the front. If you're a Star Wars fan you can automatically tell which movie itis just from looking at the collage art. Either way, I'm finally gonna get my custom blu cases I want and can retire those beat up boxes and uninspiring slipboxes. I first got them instead of the Complete Saga because I liked the Vader and Yoda boxes instead.

On the inside of the cover art I will probably just screenshot whatever iconic scene from each movie I prefer. For this one it might be a still of Yoda absorbing Sith Lightning from Sidious on that Senate pod. Or Obi-Wan Anakin on their ropes on Mustafar. Or Obi-Anakin vs. Dooku. Or the one of Vader-Tarkin-Sidious looking at the construction of the DS or just the closeup shot of the Two Heads.

Instead of movie description and random stuff on back I instead replaced it with the title crawl, star wars logo, and changed the upper part of the back with the Criterion line to the font used for A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far Far Away... Also deciding whether instead of the C logo on the spine I replace it with the face of an important character from each movie. So Ben on ANH, Vader on ESB, and Yoda or Luke on ROTJ. Qui-Gon on TPM, Dooku or Mullet Obi on ATOC and maybe Sidious/Obi-Wan on ROTS.

And after I'm done with my 7 Star Wars ones (and Rogue One soon!) my next targets are:

Godfather Trilogy -
My LOTR extended editions
Hobbit extended editions
Mad Max Fury Road - Would love to use a scan of the steelbook considering I reserved two from Best Buy and they sold both of them before i got there.
X-Men Days of Future Past (gonna use the comic cover for that one)
Gladiator - Not sure.
Ocean's Trilogy
Dark Knight Trilogy

Here's the orginal poster for comparison:

Question for everyone else; do any of you have experience using 3rd party inks? I'm needing to replace all 5 of my cartridges again on my Canon 7720MG printer and have been considering going the 3rd party route to save money. I don't want to go this direction if it will result in a dramatic loss of picture quality however. Any feedback is appreciated.
I have that exact same printer and ordered all 5 3rd party inks, and after printing one cover, I immediately realized I made a mistake and had wasted my money. I had to rebuy the proper inks. There is a dramatic loss in quality. I don't know if it is the sensors in the ink cartridges or what, but they did not come out good at all. Too bad, I thought I had saved half the price in buying them.

Thanks! You're version turned out great too.

Here's a process gif for the back cover for those that like seeing stuff like this.
I originally planned on using a Cap head shot sketch by Pablo Rivera on the back, but the headgear didn't match the movie. So I found an unfinished work in progress by Rivera that was a closer match and went to work on that instead.

If I didn't put my MCU movies in my custom phase 1 and 2 sets, I would totally print up those Cap covers.

Awesome work.

Thank you for the input. I had heard that 3rd party inks often times just don't have the luster/definition that first party inks provide but have also heard some folks say that their experience with them was ok. Since I only print covers and not much else these days, I prefer them to look as close to retail as possible so I guess I'll start hunting for deals on Canon ink. Last fall I was able to score an open box set of the 4 ink package for 50% off from target and then snagged the grey ink on ebay for under $10 shipped. Hopefully I can find similar deals this go round.

Not been making that many covers lately, but I have been making these fake Blockbuster ads for modern films, as if they were stills taken from a VHS.

Mods can delete this post if necessary, I just had nowhere else to post them.

Very Cool! Promotional advertising is a fun untapped segment that I'd love to see more of. The VHS element is fun, but I'd also be down with some solid Ad's promoting DVD/Blu Ray Rentals as well.

Very cool thread. I'm not a huge fan of "alternate" covers as I generally prefer the original theatrical poster. But so many catalog movies these days are revised and marketed with just an actor's floating head. I'd love to replace a bunch of them with the original poster art but sadly don't have an inkjet printer.

I believe some people here have had luck using a 3rd party printing company and it's actualyl not that bad of a deal.

For those of you who have successfully printed covers from the self-serve stations of Fed Ex or Staples, can anyone please PM me a link with an updated step by step guide on doing this? I'm pretty technically dumb with these sort of things and so an 'explain it to me like I'm 5' kind of guide with clear instructions and/or pictures would help.

Likewise. I've got a ton I've been wanting to print, but can't do so at home and the friend I had at Office Max who would do it on the hush hush isn't allowed anymore.

Refer to page 1, post 1 of this thread, under Other Stuff Related to Custom Cover Art, "Step by Step Printing Custom Covers at Kinkos." It's a little old but it's close enough. This'll sound strange and YMMV, but some of these places might give you a hard time regarding printing stuff with trademarked logos, e.g. DTS, Dolby Digital, Blu-ray, DVD, etc., so if you need assistance getting set up at a workstation, don't tell them what you're printing.

When I think of Criterion Collection films Revenge of the Sith is definitely one of the first to pop in my head...
