Very neat trick with the gradient layers, AmishParadise! Thanks for the tip.

Default Special Ops: Lioness (2023)

I took some time today to tackle the back portion of my "Special Ops: Lioness" cover art. It's coming along nicely I think. Preview image shown below.

(Click on the image above to view my online profile for this title.)

And full confession, if the layout of the back portion looks familiar to you that's probably because you've seen the retail Blu-ray cover art for "Tulsa King: Season One", another Paramount+ Original. Using a scan of the "Tulsa King" cover art I mirrored the layout creating a Paramount+ Original's template. (Paramount used the same basic layout for their 1923 release.) Well, the template is not quite done yet. I still need to recreate the portion below the "Special Features" section. Everything below the "Special Features" section in the above image minus the background is from the "Tulsa King" cover art. Tomorrow I'll be recreating all that from scratch.
__________________________________

Here's an update for those interested. Figure there's no reason to bump the thread so. Just getting around to revisiting the back portion today, the area below the "Special Features" section. Made quick work of this as it turns out. I decided to replace all the logos first, then working my way out in both directions from there. Before and after pics shown below.

Before:

(The items shown above were lifted from my scan of the "Tulsa King" cover art which I'm using as a template.)

After:

(And here I've replaced all the items from the scan. Ah, much better. Just need to update the running time once the last two episodes drop. It should be close to 327 minutes. We'll see two Sunday's from now I guess.)

The fonts I'm using here aren't an exact match, but come very close. In a few cases I took the liberty of giving the text more breathing room. The logos are pretty much spot on, both the size and placement. I did end up replacing the "Paramount Pictures" logo which I had carried over from the spine. The initial version I was using wasn't an exact match to what was used for the "Tulsa King" cover art. The mountain within the logo was shaped differently. It turned out I had a vector graphic of the version I needed all along. I really need to spend some time and organize all my cover art assets. I've got files all over the place. It's a real mess.
__________________________________

I might as well just keep things rolling within this same post I guess, so here's another update as I finally have everything buttoned up. Once the last episode drops on September 3rd I'll be updating the "Running Time" and making the full size image (3173x1762) available for download. If/when this TV series finds its way to Blu-ray I'll update the UPC and "Special Features" section as well. That being said, below is some fresh eye candy and color commentary. Enjoy!

SPECIAL OPS: LIONESS (2023)

(Click on the given thumbnail to view the full size image.)

(See my Doom9 forum post here to check out the Blu-ray's I created for this TV series.)

The front portion here was completely rebuilt. Note the billing text which no longer runs through the center of Morgan Freeman's forehead. Previously the front portion was sourced from a single poster which limited what I could do. To create the additional vertical space a combination of four different images were used, two of which were posters, any title treatment and other textual elements removed and replaced with my own. More of the key art can actually be seen now as well which is a nice bonus. (I go into greater detail on this in my earlier post, here.)

I made improvements to the back portion as well. The review above the UPC looked understated prior. To address that I changed the wording slightly and increased the font size, the size of the UPC being reduced to accommodate. The "Overview" section was updated as well as the word "the" was used back to back within the same sentence by accident. In the process of correcting that I decided to make the beginning over the "Overview" text more pronounced. The last improvement made was to the background image for the "Special Features" section which finally presents the overall look I was going for.

(I've since completed this cover art. See my later post here for a download link to the full size image.)

It would probably help if I actually proofread my "Overview" text. Well, I thought I had proofread the text, but evidently my mind kept skipping over the extra "the" I had in there. Doh! See below.

After removing the extra "the" I couldn't get the spacing to look right from line to line. Making a few tweaks to the original text I was able to achieve a nice even look from line to line. End result shown below. (To see the below in context hit up my post a couple back from this one.)

I really wanted to make the last line fully justified, but it just didn't work out. I was able to keep the same spacing as the lines above it though. To achieve this I actually kept the last line fully justified. After the period I kept typing letters until the line was filled. See below.

I used the same technique to make room for the "S" in "SPECIAL" while at the same time keeping the first two lines fully justified. (The "S" in "SPECIAL" is a separate layer.) I then rasterized the text layer which makes it graphical text. From there I erased the SPI's from the top and the SPAC from the bottom.

Default Bruce Lee at Golden Harvest UHD

This set is a behemoth! I've never been a fan of digipacks, so I decided to make some covers for the set. I've paired both The Big Boss discs in one case, as well as all three Game of Death's discs in the set into one case. If there's enough interest, I can do Game of Death II and the documentaries down the road.

The Big Boss

Fist of Fury

The Way of the Dragon

Game of Death

I revisited the front portion of my "Special Ops: Lioness" cover art this evening as I still wasn't happy with it. Using a combination of images I ended up recreating the official poster basically, but to the dimensions I needed for the cover art. Very pleased with the end result. To learn more see my previous post, here. And once the last episode drops next weekend I'll make the full size image available for download for those interested.

Hello guys!

Do any of you have a high quality scan of the front & back cover of this beauty?

I love this film, but can only get it as a Mill Creek double bill job.

No promises, but here's what I've got so far.

If I come up with something suitable for the back portion I'll make the full size image available for download.

Default Suriving the Game (1994)

Well it's about time! This title is finally making its way to Blu-ray courtesy of Shout! Factory. Naturally I couldn't help myself. Decided to set aside the other cover art I was working on and see what I could come up with for this title. I started with the front portion and spine. It's coming along nicely I think. See below.

Retail DVD cover art...

(Click on the image above to view a larger version.)

The snapper case pictured above isn't mine actually. I was too lazy to get my case out of storage. All my DVD and Blu-ray cases are stored out in the garage. The above images are from an EBay auction, the front, spine and back portions pictured separately. I stitched them all together so I could have one image to reference as needed while working on the cover art.

Blu-ray cover art by yours truly...

The above was quite tricky to pull off actually as the artwork I had to work with didn't offer much more width than what you see with the DVD cover art. I managed to make it work though. So over the weekend I begin my work on the back portion. I just need to decide how closely I want to continue mirroring the DVD cover art. I'm tempted to given the back portion the full Shout! treatment. Decisions, decisions.
__________________________________

I thought I'd post a quick update here for those interested. For now I decided to continue mirroring the DVD cover art. Over the weekend I made good progress completing the top two-thirds of the back portion. End result shown below.

Retail DVD cover art...

Blu-ray cover art by yours truly...

The big challenge with the above was making it so the textual elements weren't drowned out by the waterfall while at the same time not making the artwork look too dark. To address that I added several gradients in addition to applying a drop shadow and stroke to the "Overview" text.

Unfortunately that still made the featured portion of the artwork too dark. Far too much detail was lost in the image of Ice-T and the rope lines. As such, I lifted those elements from the artwork placing them on top of the gradients. Problem solved. See below.

Time permitting this evening I'll be finishing up the back portion which is just text and logos against a black background. In any event, that's all I've got for now. Can't wait for this movie to come out on Blu-ray! Thanks in advance, Shout! Factory.
__________________________________

Well it won't be long now. I'm on track to have the back portion finished up this evening. Here's a little teaser for everyone.

(Click on the preview image above to view a larger version.)

At this point I only have a couple items left to address. I'll be attending to those things this evening. On Friday I'll make the full size image available for those interested. My intent with this initial version was to create a Blu-ray version of the DVD cover art basically. I've accomplished that quite nicely here I think. Once Shout! Factory releases this title on Blu-ray I'll revisit the cover art and work up a Shout! Factory friendly version.

(I've since completed this cover art. See my later post here for a download link to the full size image.)

Default Special Ops: Lioness (2023)

I was finally able to update the "Running Time" for my cover art here as the last episode of the first season dropped today. End result shown below. Feel free to download a copy and check it out if you like. If/when the TV series finds its way to Blu-ray I'll be updating the UPC, "Special Features" section and such on the back portion.

(For additional details on the below cover art see my previous post, here.)

Special Ops: Lioness (2023)

(See my Doom9 forum post here to check out the Blu-ray's I created for this TV series.)

The next cover art I'll be making available is for the movie, "Surviving the Game (1994)". I made some excellent progress on the cover art over the weekend. Those interested can check out the latest and greatest on that, here.

Default Surviving the Game (1994)

I just finished putting the final touches on my "Surviving the Game" cover art. My intent with this initial version was to create a Blu-ray version of the DVD cover art basically. I've accomplished that quite nicely here I think. Feel free to download a copy and check it out if you like.

(See my previous post here for additional details on the cover art.)

Retail DVD cover art...

(Click on the preview image above to view a larger version.)

Blu-ray cover art by yours truly...

(Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.)

And why not. Here's an alternate version of the cover art with some Shout! flavor added to the mix. Once I receive my copy of the Shout! release I'll revisit the cover art giving the back portion the full Shout! treatment.

Shout! Factory friendly version...

(Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.)

I rarely do this, but I may just print a copy of the above for a 2-disc case and combine my DVD with the upcoming Shout! disc. I've got a pretty nice color printer here at the house, but never use it so. Might as well make sure it still works.

Default A "Shout Studios" title given the "Shout Select" treatment...

I've been chained to my desk here for the past couple hours with not much work to speak of so I decided just for fun to create a Shout Select template. Of course I had to test the template out on "Surviving the Game" at that point. End result shown below which I'll be updating once Shout! Factory reveals what special features they plan to include with their release.

(Click on the preview image above to view a larger version.)

My template does include the Shout Select banner that's runs from the spine into the front portion towards the bottom. I decided not to include it in this case, but did go with full color logos this time around, both on the spine and back portion, the back portion mirroring a Shout Select title. As as an added touch I included a picture of the Pacific Northwest in the background.
