A trio of Warner titles from the Missus.

Again, crushed to buggery for the purpose of posting.

Let's see if I've got this thing right. The whole retro Police Academy films.

Not nearly as crushed for posting as the others, but nowhere near as good as the files themselves.

I'm enjoying the retro look of the old UK pre cert tapes, but the way you present these is not very flattering, and almost disrespectful of the work. I'd enjoy a more close up look. I understand you don't want to leave high-rez, printable artwork out in the open, but surely you can show off the work better than this?

Is your missus rebuilding all the assets, or is she just scanning the covers and shifting things around?

Perhaps you could entice your better half to interact with us here on the forum directly?

She does complete rebuilds - the difference in dimensions usually puts paid to manipulating scans. She's built various templates for differing era Warner ones and other studios. By happy coincidence, I have a large collection of VHS (and some Beta) covers which can be used as reference, including coming across that troublesome bloody photo which was used on a back cover at the time but has literally disappeared into oblivion in the 40 years since!

All of the Police Academy covers were done from scratch - the PA2 back was a 'mare, as the image of Guttenberg had to be cheated to hell for it to fit the dimensions. The back of PA4, as one of the photos had been lost to time, and as well as rebuilding all of the noticeboard to fit the dimensions. Oh, and given she was doing them for a client, she took the opportunity to throw in an uncensored picture of Leslie Easterbrook in the pool (blacked out of displaying here, though).

As for the wife, I think her Facebook groups are the limit of her online interaction, but she's become a master of getting rid of Alamay watermarks...

Oh, man, I know exactly what she had to go through. I had to go through the exact same thing when I made these for a client back in 2014. Finding those images was a pain, and some I had to cheat (recreate or manipulate). This set gave me some war stories, let me tell you. I sidestepped the Leslie Easterbrook issue on film no. four by strategic placement of the images, ha ha.
Give her my regards, will you?

Oh, and may I suggest using something like Imandix for making previews to show off her work in the best possible light?

(These Police Academy covers are available to share, BTW, so anyone can PM me for links.)

You couldn't find the picture of David Graff on PA6 either, then!

LOL! Probably not. I can't remember, but I probably would have used it if I could find it. Had trouble with Tackleberry on PA4 too :-)

I'm usually the one who goes looking for photos, and the PA4 Graff was a pain to find. Obviously came across it, though! As for the PA6 one, it's just vanished, and a lesser quality image was fudged to hell to get achieve it.

Default The Hitcher/Friday the 13th/Body Double

Happy horror movie month all

My hi-res scan of the new 4K release of The Hitcher just wouldn't come through properly so decided to spend a few hours recreating it (with a little artistic liberty on the back side!).

Also, made a couple of semi-customs based on recent 4K Steelbooks...

Default Quick Test

Hey everyone!

Just wanting to do a quick image test for ImgBB.

If everything works I will be hosting my cover images from there from now on, and I will be deleting my imgur account.

So, with the rumor mill spread about about a possible release, here is my VHS style cover for Michael Mann's 'The Keep':

PM me for the link.

Stay safe!

Sometimes I see what others have done and think "Wow! Wish I'd made that!" and this is one of those times. Great, great work.

Many thanks, Fritz! It was very much your (and Justanothercrow's) exceptional custom design work over the years that sparked my initial interest in the hobby. A thousand or so covers later and I'm still finding joy in designing and sharing with everyone that appreciates our efforts. Great community here and happy to be a part of it!

Can second this. Cheers, Fritz and Sowhat. Your exceptional talent always inspires me. So glad I found this thread and to see your continued work over the years!

I thought I'd share a little font related nugget with everyone in the event some find this useful. I've done this for cover art as well. In this case I was re-authoring a Shout Factory release. One of the fonts I needed for the menus was called Amador. I have an Adobe subscription which includes access to the Adobe Fonts library. Amador is one of the available fonts. Unfortunately the Adobe Fonts support within my Adobe Creative Cloud application disappeared on me. Perhaps related to the fact I'm still on Windows 7. Not sure. Anyway, rather than purchasing the font I pulled an old trick out of my bag I hadn't used in a while. See below.

Using the font preview feature I took screenshots of all the text I needed, then removing the backgrounds. In Photoshop I used the "Magic Wand" tool to remove the backgrounds, the "Tolerance" set to "30" with the "Contiguous" option enabled. This left a jagged appearance around the outside of the text, an outer pixel row or so of the background color. This was intentional however. The key here is selecting the right background color, one that will blend into the background the text is being placed on once sizing the images down. End result shown below.

(See my Doom9 forum post here to learn more about my re-authoring of this Blu-ray and for additional pics.)
