Many thanks to you. Nice job.

toxsic made this one (with a few suggestions from me):

I had to get rid of that blockbuster cover that looked like it was a DVD...

Finished this Kickboxer cover; it goes well with my Bloodsport cover. If you want it, please pm me your email address.

Well, that's why I suggested a "re-build".

I want to make my very first custom covers. I would like to make them for the Back to the Future trilogy, for myself and everyone here to use, but would like to design them like the VHS box art. I don't have a scanner, or the VHS cassettes anymore, but I do have Photoshop CS 4 and I'm currently unemployed, so my questions (forgive me if they have already been answered elsewhere) are:
  1. What are the technical specs (ie. pixel dimensions, dpi, file format, etc) the covers need to have?
  2. Does anybody have (or can they scan) the elements from the VHS boxes?

Any help here is greatly appreciated, thank you

Sorry, I don't have the VHS boxes, but it might yield a better result rebuilding them from scratch in Photoshop rather than use scans. I'm sure you can find all the logos and photos online. I rebuild old covers using just photo reference all the time.

As for dimensions, you're better off starting with one of the available Blu-ray cover templates for Universal studios. Do a search for posts by IllestVillain who has generously shared templates for many studios over the last six months.

And off you go :-)

Oh, and I'm sorry to hear about your job situation. You have my deepest sympathies. Best of luck.

Thank you. Just started looking for the logos on Google, and none of them seem to look right. The colors are off, and the images aren't huge or very hi-resolution. I would prefer the ones where the background layers are transparent, because trying to use the magnet lasso tool to select objects is a pain in the butt for me to master.

Those "Classic Monsters" cases are really, really nice looking. I wish I could get a set like that.

The Captains Summit
Evolutions
The Motion Picture
The Wrath of Khan
The Search for Spock
The Voyage Home
The Final Frontier
The Undiscovered Country
Generations
First Contact
Insurrection
Nemesis
Star Trek 2009
Into Darkness

These are great! Fantastic work.

Google is the absolute worst place to look for images. I recommend searching for resources at http://www.euphoricfx.org

After 10 posts in their forums you can download 10 resources a day free. Or you can get unlimited downloads for a small fee.

I hardly ever use google because the images are just too low a resolution.

can someone please suggest how to print out a cover that looks like an original blu ray insert??
i printed out a copy using computer paper and ink, but it looks too "computerized" and not similar to the original insert.
like a certain kind of paper? or something.

someone that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

thanks.

I know a few folks were asking about this, so I thought I would just put it out there that I have contracted the amazing Nissen to do a custom collection for

Should be completed in a month or so and as with all covers I have Nissen do I will share these with everyone that wants them. They are gonna be in the style of the UK Reel Heroes collection. And as soon as they start getting released I will have him do Phase Two
