However, when it comes down to it, they don't stick draconically to those "rules" about the design of a cover. I was hesitant at first, to upload minimalist covers and even some vintage-looking VHS recreations, because they so obviously weren't the "house style", but haven't gotten any complaints. I've been considering joining EuphoricFX, so I may see you all over there ![]() |

Here's my take on the first Mad Max.
![]() I wanted to stick to the look of the original Warner video covers, but found myself taking some liberties with this one. I went back to the original version of Tom Beauvais' artwork, which is slightly different than the version on Warner's cover. BTW, does anyone know who did the Mad Max 2 poster I used? The original cover didn't have a tagline for the poster, but I felt it needed one to fill up the empty space. This tagline was on the original UK quad. The last liberty was on the back. The image was b&w on the old cover, but I kept it in colour on my version. Now, just Thunderdome to go, with Richard Amsel's final poster (I believe). Looking forward to it. |

Usually when someone asks me that it means they think the alternative is better :-) In answer to your question, no, I never considered the US poster as an option because I was aiming for a recreation of the UK VHS. Even if I thought the US poster was better (which I don't), I would have stuck with the UK art. |

![]() ![]() The cover for Mad Max beyond Thunderdome was much harder to recreate than the previous two. Warner's template had evolved by 1985, so several logos are updated compared to Mad Max 1 and 2. The major deviation was the design of the back, and I decided to recreate the montage from scratch. Not difficult, just a lot more work. I had to pick between consistency across all three covers or being faithful to the actual VHS cover. I chose the latter. Now that all three are done, feel free to PM me for copies. |

It brings back so many memories to see these retro-style Warner covers. As you know I like to incorporate old studio logos on my covers and it was a real kick for me to see the old circa-1979 Warner logo at the beginning of "Argo". I never owned the Mad Max VHS tapes but I did collect a number of Warner released VHS tapes that had this cover design, and all the circa-1983/84 James Bond 007 VHS tapes that had a slightly modified version of the cover (modified to include the UA logo). It was a simple question and not worthy of mocking. If I want that image for a cover, I can make it myself. Yes, my opinion is the image I posted would make a more attractive cover. My question was simply inquiring as to Fritz's creative process.
BTW, I have appreciated a number of your covers as well. Thanks for that. |
