Seconded. I have all 7 seasons with no covers. Had to replace those insufficient cases from the Mega-set with 7 viva elite 15mm cases.

As long as we're discussing Trek, has anyone seen any scans of the new movie collection covers around and or customs? What I'm looking to do is to put the Original Crew Movies and Next Gen movies in 15mm 6-disc vortex cases. Plan on throwing the 7th disc with special features on it from The Original Crew movies in with the Next Gen collection since there will be room.

And yes, a really Outstanding job on those Trek covers Nissen. I wish I had the room. What I probably should do is pony up the cash for a new rack instead of continuously buying 6 disc cases.

Hi HonestJohn,

I don't have any collection covers for the new Trek movies, but I made 2 separate covers for Star Trek ('09) and Star Trek Into Darkness. Not sure if you're interested in them, but if you are, you're welcome to them. Just shoot me a PM.

Thanks Steve, guess I didn't explain well, but what I was looking for were something like these .... scan or customs to use in place of the original fat sets with multiple 5-7mm cases. Just trying to slim down. Great covers for the new Treks by the way.

I think most of the attacks in that thread are more centered on the amusingly ironic complaint that other people are appropriating your home made graphics for their own use. Few if any complaints focus on the basic idea of making custom graphics and even freely sharing them -it's the conceit that using essentially copyrighted photos, graphics, etc without the true licenser's permission and then bit**ing about your own new graphics which heavily rely on those images are being redistributed and false authorship claimed without your permission.

And it should be mentioned that hirescovers.net charges to access printable content. Someone is making money off what's basically unlicensed, copyrighted images being repurposed without the license holders permission. As a professional graphic artist myself, I can't fathom the logic over being upset about people redistributing my work and even taking credit for it while hosting that work on a site that charges access for it. Work that uses someone elses promotional material that I appropriate for my "hobby."

It's like illegally downloading multi-track stems from a Torrent site, remixing some popular song, posting it on Youtube and being upset because several other users took your remix and posted it on their own site.

As an active designer for HiResCovers. Let me ask you to refrain from assumptions when you don't actually know the facts. The owners of HiRes make $0 in profits. Every cent they earn from the site's subscriptions goes into running the site and all the servers it takes to store the 1000's of covers and labels there. Any extra money above that goes into competitions, and back into the community.

So, no, they are not making money off of copywriten materials, nor are the designers.

I wouldn't ever consider charging a dime to someone who wants my designs unless I was paid to make it in the first place. I will however stand up for my custom covers that take me 40-80 hours of work to complete. Just as artists on Deviant Art will do the same for their drawings of Batman. Or any one of the numerous artists who create works that you see at Comic Expos (who actually do charge for their work).

Canada Phone Booth - NEW Cover!

Well, onto a lighter note... My next custom cover

This one has been done for a little while, but just realized I never added it here! Like I think Nissen said, I make a label for each cover because it's a relatively easy addition, and makes a nice complete set. I do believe some who use covers may also use the label and add it on top of a purchased disc (hopefully).

Phone Booth is one of my favourite movies, and still gets me to this day!

I have seen others do these nice GIFs to show their design steps, so I am going to give it a shot too!

Enjoy!! Same rules apply for my covers.

Glad you chimed in on this, BPM. I see your viewpoints on subjective ownership of one's work aligns with mine.

I admit am curious about the business model of cover sites. Would you say it is par for the course that none of them make any profit?

I don't begrudge them any profit, but after contributing to such sites for a while it left a sour taste in my mouth. The fact that other's had to pay to get access to my covers didn't sit right with me. Also, the minimal feedback from downloaders and other designers made the whole thing very impersonal and not as fulfilling as showing off a cover here in this very active cover thread.

Great cover, and the GIF makes me appreciate it even more. Seeing all the layers of the finished work is really educational and it showcases the artistry involved. It does not show the experimenting, the trial and error, the massaging of the elements and everything involved in gathering resources so it is still only the tip of the iceberg ! :-)
