Hi all! Hope this is okay to post here... I have some art I've mocked up I'm excited to use for slipcovers etc but whenever I print, it comes out garbage! I've tried on a couple printers with various settings, but the colors are always wrong. Any tips?! I've tried on photo paper and cardstock for two different projects, both of which have led me to go through a full thing of ink on my new Canon and some ink on the HP at work.

I'm not a pro, but it might be an issue related to the image mode. By default, the programs like Photoshop will create an image in RGB, but printers are working under the CMYK mode. In this case, convert it to CMYK and see how it affect the cover colors, and try to print it again. You can read more here: http://www.printernational.org/rgb-versus-cmyk.php

Could you take a photo of the print, so we can see what "garbage" looks like? If you like, you can send me the file and I can take a look at it and see if I find anything wrong. Just PM me and we can exchange email adresses.

So, for a couple of months I’ve been collecting materials for the Fast & Furious movies, reason being that I was tired of them releasing new movies with new artwork not matching the older movies, and sometimes the title treatments were also not alike. The sixth, seventh and eighth movie were released on 4K and this month the first three are getting the 4K treatment as well.

I started with creating new title treatments for all movies using the original font and basing them on the original designs.

Here they are:

They look basically like the originals, but with subtle differences, most noticable on perhaps the second and third movies.

Now, with the title treatment set, I thought of an idea for brandnew artwork for the movies and tried a couple of things before settling with what you see on these finalized covers. Please note that the fourth and fifth are basically done, just waiting for the actual release before finalizing.

Anyways, here! Enjoy!

Oh, and I’ll upload some bonus for these covers tomorrow!

Oops, how embarassing! These 8 covers were part of the initial process! Here are the real 8 covers:

And as promised, here are the added bonus!

Character shots for the second, third and seventh movies were a collage of these images:

Finally printed out my retro covers for all of the Exorcist movies, including the good, the bad and a double-bill of the ones that have to sleep on the porch.

'Scuse the rather rough-looking photo...

Part I-III are great! Got to love that old WB logo!! Whist that you would put the picture on the line so that everybody could see it without signing in first.

Default Question about disc art

So, I've seen once in a while here, and more frequently on some DVD/Blu-Ray cover sites, some people make custom disc art. I assume with the intention of printing it up on those disc labels and then applying the label to the disc.

I thought I recalled reading at one point years ago that this could potentially effect the performance of the disc. Something about the added weight, issues if it is not perfectly centered, etc. Plus many game systems that play Blu-Rays don't have a tray that pops out, but a slot that kind of "sucks" the disc in. And I'm wondering if a label would cause an issue with it fitting properly in those kids of disc drives.

The reason that I bring this up is that to date I have avoided using custom disc labels, but I'm tossing around the idea of using them now with a few select titles. But I don't want to do so if it will otherwise cause problems in using any discs that they are applied to.

Does anyone have any insight on that?

Don't use them, they're better than nothing but are essentially crap. It costs a bit more up front but the result is 100000x better to just print directly. Look into purchasing a Canon printer with disc printing capabilities. I have an older Pixma 7720 printer.. the link here appears to be a more up to date version of what I have.

https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Product...a+disc+printer

I've actually owned 2 of the canon 7700 series models. I typically spent around $140 so I'm not sure why this linked one is a bit cheaper, but it physically looks the same and the description appears to read like what I have, so perhaps the production costs have just gone down. Either way avoid the labels, they aren't worth the hassle and the final product with the Canon is way WAY better.

I have that printer.

But this isn't for burned discs. This is for actual movie discs that just don't have much in the way of art on them (like the plain light blue Disney discs). I just don't want to put anything on them that will cause the disc to have playback or player compatibility issues.

I could potentially even use my printer to print on them if I just put the blank label on the disc first, but I don't want to do this at all if it may cause a problem.

Never put labels on discs, that's just a bad idea all the way around.

Interesting... in that case then labels could be an option I suppose though I would never recommend them. The label itself is unlikely to cause any issues with the disc. I used them for a number of years on cd-r's back in the late 90's/early 2000's. The issue at that time was that the glue would/could eventually eat its way through the data layer resulting in an unplayable disc. However as far as blu rays go, with the data being pressed into the plastic itself, even scratching off the artwork shouldn't affect playback. I have a copy of Twilight Zone the movie that I purchased used a few years back that had the artwork scratched off in small areas resulting in areas where I can see straight through the disc, however playback has never been affected.

The bigger issue would be for slot loading players. The increased thickness of the discs on rare occasion can cause them to get stuck. Standard tray based players are unlikely to have to many issues though. For me personally, I'd rather create an identical backup of a disc and print directly on it than to apply a label to the retail disc and risk ruining it or my players.

I would strongly advise against labels.

Thanks for those.
I've been thinking about how I might update my collection with a custom box cover that removes the Rob Zombie films and replaces it with the new 2018 Halloween, then make a slight modification to it stating: "40 years of Halloween". Do you know where a higher res version of that 2nd cover is?

One of the users of this board created those covers in addition to a slip box and other bonus goodies. I can't recall their name but if you go check the Halloween Complete Collection thread you'll find more info there. I believe he posted updated photos within the last 3-4 weeks as well so start at the end and work backwards to find who posted it (unless he chimes in or someone else id's him)
